Mostly, we just use it to chat.
However, we've also gotten some people around that just like to pop in at random and post whatever comes to mind and then leave without really holding a conversation.
The basic purpose, I suppose, is to promote guild spirit by setting goals for numbers of posts in the guild and then trying to reach them. ^^;
