NotteRequiem Well, I'd say that's a solid argument. But for some people, it's about surviving against other monsters... people who already found the monster within themselves, and aren't afraid of it. Just a thought, though.
But most protagonists such as Chris, Jill, Claire, Carlos, Rebecca, they don't really have monsters within themselves, last time I checked, they were decent people with no real burdens on their conscience.

It's really great that there's an actual thread about this. But I guess it's kind of a given.
I really love what all you guys have said. You've said it all for me! Everylastbit. So I'll highlight the things that really stood out for me.
The whole defying nature thing was total crap. At least when the previous RE games had terrifying monsters it generally revolved around the idea of SCIENCE. Not some foriegn cult in some washed-up backwater FEUDALISTIC Spain. They (the writers, whoever is responsible for the mess) tried waaay too hard. Too hard. Having the incompetant damsel in distress was just a pull away from the whole crappy plot mutated parasites. And, wait, let's take a look at one of Leon's quotes:
"No thanks, BRO."
I think it was truly this quote that summed up Leon's design: try-hard-modernized-cool-guy-with-a-fancy-hair-cut-and-ultimate-injection-of-fangirly-juice. Seriously, they tried to make Leon waaay too likeable, in as many possible ways as...possible. Then there's Ada. Who's the complete "OMG-FEMME-FATALE-SEXY-TEASE-" complex. Ashley: Brat.
The villians were interesting, at least. Though unoriginal- tell me, how many times have we witnessed a heavily-accented-balding-cloaked man take rise to superior antagonism in past story plots? Or, perhaps, a shrieky little crazy short guy with a Napoleon influence? Krauser was just another typical "army tough man from the past." Boo-ring. Ahem. The characters: blew it.
I found it didn't really stick to the main RE saga series other than involving similar mutations and characters from past games. Which brings me to another point of why the game is poopy: BARELY ANY WESKER. Shame!
I do believe they (the writers, producers...communists...) did give an honest effort... considering the rush and pressure they were already getting from the rabid fans who were desperate for some more zombie fun. They tried their best. Which is kind of sad.
Sorry to have posted so much! For someone who has only merely WATCHED another person play the game! Sorry. I got carried away...

RE4 was a fun game, an awesome game I could say, but it kinda betrayed the whole storyline of Resident Evil, just about the only things that stuck true to it were the presence of people like Wesker ||which wasnt much, mind you|| But otherwise it was a fun, challenging and, as much as people deny, scary a** game. I'm serious, every time I hear a regenerater I nearly crap my pants, I could be holding an RPG launcher and I'd still be scared shitless, those things are just...*shudders* Ugh....
