That's what I was thinking too... Wondering if anyone else thought that was a good idea before I bought it.

Got Mass Effect 2 just now. It's pretty good so far.
Pros of so far:
- Awesome beginning. - Jacob's far less annoying than Kaiden. - More accurate firefights. - Miranda, though she's not very trusting, is drop-dead sexy. - Customizing the apperance of your armor is pretty fun. - Grenade launcher (der B esplosions!!!) - Pretty interesting story. - Graphics are better than the first; no excessive loading and no texture pop-ups.
Cons so far:
- Why do I need to reload my guns when in Mass Effect 1 they had infinite ammo (although they'd overheat if you fired them to long)? - It would not let me use my Mass Effect 1 save on the same Xbox profile, so I had to just simply start another game. I wanted the Citadel Council to still be alive, but I guess I never really liked those politicians anyway. - Some of the RPG elements of the last game seem to be missing so far. - Graphics themselves might be good, but I cannot read any of the damn text on my standard definition TV.

The reload system was just their way of making the combat feel tighter, and it does to me.
Also you need to find your farthest savestate in mass effect 1, finish the game again, then you can load. I like the council.
And what RPG elements are gone? They just streamlined it, imo

And what RPG elements are gone? They just streamlined it, imoSure, it does make the combat feel tighter and more challenging, but when you consider the fact that the futuristic guns of Mass Effect 1 had the modern technological convience of not having to reload, taking a step back from this seems...stupid. I guess that explains the problems I've been having with my ME 1 saves. Maybe I haven't played too far into it, but it just seems like a couple of RPG elements are missing, that's all. I can't put my finger on it, but maybe I just haven' played far enough.

The thermal clip absorbs the heat from the gun, as far as I can tell, and it's like the overheat system in ME1, just done differently.
-shrug- I leveled up, I put points into skills, I gained new abilities. That's RPG enough for me.
