So instead of getting a 360 for $50, my mom says no.
That means I'll be getting one far, far down the road for much more.

@Kriel: That is gay. You should just buy it anyway and when she's like 'i thought i said you couldnt buy that' be like 'oops i forgot'. If you're gonna end up paying four times as much later, I'm sure she'll see the reason in your decision eventually.

Alright, I'm gonna start training a team in Pokemon Platinum for competitive battling.
Here's my party so far:
Eevee, Lv. 20
Luxray, Lv. 63
Gyarados, Lv. 78
Gabite, Lv. 43
Staraptor, Lv. 42
Torterra, Lv. 65
Now, that's just my current party, not my competitive team.
I'm planning on evolving my Eevee into Epseon for a Psychic type.
I'm going to ditch Gyarados once I get a Feebas to get a Milotic.
Staraptor's going bye-bye after I can get a more battle-hardened flying-type.
Going to train Gabite into Garchomp.
Any suggestions for a better team plan? Also, I prefer not to have legendaries in this team.

Also, I prefer not to have legendaries in this team. Keep Staraptor in, he's a great Intimidator, which you will need for flimsy Espeon, and he's got access to Close Combat and U-Turn.

I'll just train Gabite into Garchomp to use in those kinds of matches then. @LPS: Would Espeon be a good non-legend Psychic type or would you recommend some other Psychic Pokemon? Also, what would be a good fire-type. Also, which Pokemon would be best defensively?

Espeon is a solid psychic type IF you can get past his piss-poor defense. He NEEDS support to function, but once he's set up he does very well.
I'd suggest Vaporeon over Milotic as a tank, because it can learn Acid Armor, Haze, and Baton Pass. Then again, I have both Vaporeon and Milotic, so they're both good choices.
I like Arcanine as a fire-type because of his access to a lot of type-covering Fang moves and Extremespeed, but he's not the best stat-wise.
EDIT: @Renz: You'd hate my Blissey more. Serene Grace with Flamethrower/Tbolt and a Metronome, Acid Armor and Aqua Ring setup. P:
