TtheHero Regulust Goddammit Cyndaquil learn to take a punch. Aren't most... first-stage Pokemon lacking in things like Defense usually?
Are you keeping it from leveling so it can learn a move at an earlier level? It learns Lava Plume at 31, whereas Quilava learns it at 35.I just started my Heart Gold cart. So Cyndaquil is level 9. It's a major adjustment from a level 57 Feraligatr... plus I like Water Type pokemon better than Fire.

...Eyy Reggie, you want something good?
If you're willing to do chain breeding, you can get a Squirtle that knows Water Spout in HG/SS

You'll need a Wailmer/Wailord that knows the move. Then breed with a Remoraid ONLY IN HG/SS to get a Remoraid with Water Spout.
Then breed THAT with a Squirtle or it's evolutions to get a Squirtle with Water Spout. Game Set match.
Bear in mind that Daddies pass on the Egg move.

It's anyone's guess.
