Goddammit Cyndaquil learn to take a punch.

Aren't most... first-stage Pokemon lacking in things like Defense usually?

Are you keeping it from leveling so it can learn a move at an earlier level? It learns Lava Plume at 31, whereas Quilava learns it at 35.

I just started my Heart Gold cart. So Cyndaquil is level 9.

It's a major adjustment from a level 57 Feraligatr... plus I like Water Type pokemon better than Fire.

I see...

...Eyy Reggie, you want something good?

If you're willing to do chain breeding, you can get a Squirtle that knows Water Spout in HG/SS

Water Spout has a power of 150, which is pretty strong. It gets less stronger when you have less HP.

You'll need a Wailmer/Wailord that knows the move. Then breed with a Remoraid ONLY IN HG/SS to get a Remoraid with Water Spout.

Then breed THAT with a Squirtle or it's evolutions to get a Squirtle with Water Spout. Game Set match.

Bear in mind that Daddies pass on the Egg move.

That sounds needlessly complicated. xD

Why would anyone take that much effort for a move? xD

So one of my friends thinks I pronounce certain legendary pokemon funny.

...Yet she pronounces Raikou as Ray cow.

Perhaps to have a Pokemon they like to have a strong move, or to have something unexpected, or even to help cover for it's weaknesses. It's anyone's guess.
