Click to show.Virgil had surprised himself when he hadn’t felt any of that old rage when the younger man had told him about some of the darkest deeds he had done in the military. Surely, had anyone else admitted such things to him he might have at least been tempted to break their jaw. Not so much as he still hated their kind as much as he used to, but simply for the principle of it. But there was something about being with this Marcel that was slowly changing the aggressive brute for the better. Though he didn’t see it entirely in that light. Some said love was a strength though he couldn’t help but think it was a weakness as well. They were both men who were unused to feeling vulnerable and yet their relationship made them exactly that in a way. It was why the lycan got so uncomfortable and antsy whenever they had their more harder conversations, exposing so much of his soul to someone was an unknown experience for him. Like a sinner before their god, he could lay his transgressions at his lover’s feet and only hope they didn’t repulse him. But it took one to know one in the end, he supposed. As much as he hated himself for thinking it to begin with, he doubted they would be so well suited together if the ex-Marine wasn’t broken as he was. His head tilted the slightest bit while Marcel was quick to jump to his defense against his own self-loathing nature. Actions did speak louder than words, he supposed. Knowing he was right, he relented and nodded his head. He would take it as it was when the other man partially agreed the demon could have had a hand in tonight’s events. It pissed him off that they had no way of knowing if it was lurking around them and waiting for its opportunity to strike or not. The damn thing was undetectable until it revealed itself. His grin came back full force for a few seconds. ”We have an accord then.” Hearing Marcel had doubted him might have hurt, but it wasn’t as if there was some part of him that really wanted an apology. Forgiving him wasn’t an issue for him because he didn’t need to do it in the first place. His own hands slowly stopped as the Hispanic went to work on his body, bringing out a soul deep groan of appreciation from him. Exhausted as he was, being washed off and massaged felt like the best kind of magic in the world. Getting soap into open wounds did sting but it could hardly compare to how great being washed felt. Any scraps and cuts he had were slowly but surely healing. Much to his chagrin, his nose would take the longest out of all of his injuries as broken bone tended to do. He might hate it but shape shifting right then just to make it mend faster felt like overkill. He would deal with the swelling and pain rather than deal with the consequences of changing forms. Freezing water or not, he could have fallen asleep right where he stood. And Virgil came close to doing exactly that, if only for a couple of seconds. His head dipped downward as he nodded off thanks to the skilled hands washing him although he jerked awake again when he felt them grow still. The simple fact of knowing he might have missed Marcel’s sweet words was enough to help him stay awake. He covered one of hands on his chest. ”Aye,” It was hard to be eloquent when he was feeling dead on his feet. ”Well, th’ first thing,” His smile was almost sheepish. ”You’re important t’me. Always will be. I love you so, so much Marcel.” He raised his hand and gently kissed his knuckles before releasing it. Virgil bit down on his lip as he lowered himself into the water to rinse off, his eyes never leaving his lover. He might be the one who had been born in the country, but Marcel did look truly beautiful standing there with a backdrop of trees and the only source of light coming from the moon. He pouted for the briefest of seconds before he lowered his face as well. But the icy cold felt great on the break as it turned out and he stayed under for a few seconds, but not as long as he normally could. Being in the water wasn’t exactly a leisurely thing for him this time. ”Can’t believe I’m gonna say this,” he started out with a slight mutter before he focused more on his partner. ”I’m thinkin’ we should try t’look for some kinda protection against...demonic s**t? For all I know, that demon is still out there waitin’ t’munch on your soul an’ who th’ ******** knows if Matthew will find his way back.” Reaching out to grab onto the Spanish soldier’s hands, he tried to pull him downward into the water with him. This way seemed a lot nicer than splashing water on him to get the shampoo off of him. ”An’ there’s no tellin’ what else is out there waitin’...’cause ya know it is.” Virgil grumbled out the last thing with a look of disgust. ”Don’t get me wrong, we make ah damn good team but why give trouble ah chance t’mess with us in th’ first place when we might be able t’ward it off?”

It was not lost on Marcel how he and Virgil would more than likely be rather incompatible if he wasn't as ******** up as he was. The two men could genuinely understand each others pains to some extent and it helped them become closer as a result. If they had met before Marcel went into the military the most they ever would have been was possible drinking buddies at most and even then that was a stretch. Marcel was a much different man before his time in service, he was someone who was looking to the future with that bright naivety that most young people had at the age of eighteen. At most Virgil would have seen the younger Hispanic as a child and nothing more and honestly he would be right in such an assumption. Maybe, just maybe Marcel was at least a bit thankful for his own horrific experiences because even if it was something he'd never wish on his worst enemy it brought them together. The horrors of war drifted him and his wife apart for the multiple months that he was gone. Maybe in some twisted way this was Karma finally giving him something positive after doing nothing but taking from him for years. Marcel was rather thankful that the older man didn't argue with him over the Hispanic's claim. To the Hispanic the sheer fact that Virgil was there for him and willing to be there for his protection meant so much to him, the other man could have been a mute and the man's actions would be all he needed. Honestly having only known Virgil a handful of days he trusted this man more than he trusted half of the people in his old squad to watch his back. Yeah several of them he did genuinely trust with his life and those were the people he considered a real friend, however the Lieutenant trusted practically nobody else in his squad unless they showed they were worth his trust. Most weren't in his eyes, he watched their backs as it was his duty but never once did he trust them to have his. He did feel somewhat bad after being discharged as the few people he trusted lost a strong ally and someone who genuinely looked out for them. Either way that was in the past now and Marcel was here with Virgil.

When he did apologize he was pleased to know that Virgil accepted his apology without hesitation. He had a gut feeling that the other man wouldn't hold it against him but deep down it would eat away at the Hispanic for a long, long while. There was a certain amount of disgust he'd feel with himself over the entire matter but he figured that as long as the Werewolf didn't hold it against him then maybe he could learn to let it go himself. But until that time came it would always be in the back of his mind festering away. Marcel couldn't help but grin a little bit as his ministrations elicited such a groan from Virgil, clearly he was doing something right it seemed. He'd make sure to put more effort into massaging the other man as much as possible without aggravating his wounds more. Of course with that being said the Hispanic did run some of the soap over the other man's wounds to clean them out just a little bit. True his Lover had an unreal ability to heal from most wounds with little or no issue but that didn't mean that he didn't want the other man to clean out the cuts and scrapes along the way. Once Marcel spoke, seeming to almost wake the other man up he smiled a little bit when the other proclaimed his love for him. Such things never stopped making his heart do flips. The Hispanic would reach up and gently touched the side of his nose just a little bit, no real pressure to cause too much or even any pain at all but he sighed "Look at you, you took such a beating and I didn't even get a scratch.." he knew that at the end of the day it was honestly for the best. Unlike Virgil, Marcel had no accelerated healing at all and would have to take such a long time to recover from basically anything. The thought crossed his mind that if something did happen Virgil would have taken the chance to turn the Hispanic to save his life. To think that their earlier conversation was so close to actually coming true only a couple hours later. Marcel would then look down at Virgil and watched him with a small smile on his face as he submerged himself. He did find it a bit funny how he continued to stare up at him like he had something on his face, did he? Either his he was pulled from his thoughts as he listened to Virgil speak and the former Marine blinked a little bit in surprise by the other man's suggestion. Honestly it did make a whole lot of sense but he couldn't help but chuckle a little bit as he was slowly pulled down lower into the water to rinse the soap off his own body "True enough, but where would we find that kind of stuff?" he paused for a moment before shrugging his shoulders and rubbed his arms and shoulders to clean the soap off under the water "I mean...we could order some stuff online but...there's no telling what works and what doesn't..." Marcel might be casually into the occult but it was more for simple entertainment than real occult activities and practices. He had no idea where they would even start.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.It seemed they were both quick to forgive each other and yet would never do themselves the same kindness. Virgil refused to forgive himself for failing to realize there was something threatening his boyfriend, for not waking up whenever the malicious spirit first appeared and for letting Matthew get as close to the Hispanic as he did. This was the scariest nights of his life to date. One swipe of those sharp claws could have very well ended their relationship if they’d hit the right spot. So many of those almost hits were far too close to comfort for him. A hundred yards away between the two was too close for comfort in his opinion. He let out a pathetic please don’t whine the instant Marcel reached out for his nose. The light touch didn’t hurt, but the mere thought of the injury being prodded made his stomach tighten with anxiety. A weary smirk graced his bruised and battered face. Even though he trusted Marcel completely, old memories could still make him feel apprehensive. One times too many people had used to the break to keep him in line. ”Well, at least I’ve always known how t’take an a** whoopin’.” He chuckled before shaking his head a little. ”Though I guess it’s better me than ya an’ I would do it again in ah heartbeat if it means keepin’ ya safe.” Putting himself between danger and those he loved was almost instinctual to him at this point. Even out of his small group of unnatural friends, he was always the one at the forefront of any fight or battle they had gotten into. Taking hits while the others worked their talents in other ways because being stealthy, subtle and fast really wasn’t the big b*****d’s M.O. ”You’re good at what ya do, darlin’...I don’t think anyone who’s not as quick on their feet as ya are would have lasted long.” Admittedly, if Matthew hadn’t been depended on others for sources of strength, he doubted they would have won against him. Once the veteran was down in the water with him, he reached out and simply placed his hands on his sides. This time his compulsion to touch Marcel in some way wouldn’t be ignored. Virgil needed the confirmation he was solid and real, that he hadn’t gotten knocked out in the fight and he was dreaming while his real boyfriend was getting murdered. Not that he thought his lover would try to argue with him, but he was glad when didn’t laugh at the idea and seemed to agree. ”Seems like it would be t’easy for someone t’scam us if we ordered stuff online.” His brow creased as he turned a few ideas over in his head. He knew a little bit on the subject though not enough to be able to tell which ones worked and which were bullshit. ”In New Orleans...th’ shops that sold stuff for practicin’ voodoo had t’disguise themselves. Like regular businesses that had ah backroom with black market crap…” Virgil grunted softly, making himself confused for a few seconds. ”They’d mark their doors with symbols so people “in th’ know” knew t’shop there.” He even lifted his hands out of the water to do air quotes with his fingers. ”I doubt they’d use th’ same symbols all th’ way out here in Japan, but maybe we could keep an eye out for ah place like that whenever we’re out an’ about.” He shrugged. Then again, Virgil wasn’t above going into some odd little store and demanding to know if they had a backroom full of illicit and occult goodies.

Marcel would admit that he handled the whole "supernatural" stuff much better than some normal people might have. He knew that some people would have cracked under the pressure of what happened tonight. The ghost of his Werewolf boyfriends Ex came back to gut and murder him and if that weren't enough he was also a Werewolf. Most people would have been thrown into a loony bin from cracking over the fact that such an event even happened. But then Marcel wasn't most people. He attributed it to the horrors he's seen, the Hispanic supposed that he'd been under the assumption that he'd seen it all and was almost desensitized to the fact that he hadn't. Then on top of that Marcel's love for horror movies and all things of the occult and creepy probably also lent to that as well. That being said it certainly did freak the Veteran when he first found out the man he'd slept with was actually a Werewolf as well as apparently he had a demon attached to him a well. It was probably a good thing that Marcel got aggressive when confronted with someone or something that meant him harm. Marcel would frown just a little bit when the other man but eventually worked up a small smile. He knew that at the end of the day Virgil only wanted him to be safe but that didn't mean that he was completely OK with the other man throwing himself in harms way for him every time danger reared it's ugly head "Thank you Virgil, but remember to take care of yourself as well. I don't like seeing you like this at all" he hated seeing Virgil all beat up...unless it was from him in a friendly spar that is! Still though it amazed him how quickly his Lover healed from wounds. He swore that if he focused on a scratch he could see it almost patching itself closed slowly even in the low light of the moon. Marcel would then grin a little bit when the other man complimented his capabilities, while Marcel would probably deflect any compliment about his person he would accept one about his skills in combat "Thanks Querido, I trained under the best. Honestly it's one of the few things I'm proud of about myself..heh..." it was funny because he refused to fight unless he had too or if the person deserves it but his combat skills was something that was ingrained in him to be proud of. One of the only things in fact about himself he was proud of. Marcel would then listen attentively as he placed his own hands on the other man's sides in return. It did make sense to him as most stuff online was almost guaranteed to either be fake or just plain bullshit. He'd then listen with keen interest when Virgil revealed some secrets about the buildings who sold genuine black market goods and the kind of stuff that they would be looking for. However Marcel would deflate a little bit when the other man reminded him that the two of them were in Japan and those things may not apply here. He nodded his head "Yeah, those kinds of things have to be somewhere in Japan...maybe..." he'd remain in the water for a little bit before leaning forward and kissing his Lover on the side of his neck before pulling away "Come on, let's get dried off. I want to be all wrapped up in our blanket" honestly Marcel was finally beginning to feel genuine exhaustion seep into his bones as now he felt the desire to sleep coming on. As they would get out Marcel would glance over at Virgil with a curious look "What did those symbols look like?" he asked the older man. He remembered a couple antique shops that his Father had strictly forbade him from ever going into any of them. The Hispanic never quite got a clear answer from him but it always seemed to bother his Old Man whenever they even drove past the buildings in question.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Virgil smiled at the sentiment he should take care of himself. It really wasn’t something he had to worry about it too often thanks to his regenerative ability though it wasn’t as if he really cared all that much about himself in the first place so avoiding danger was something he rarely bothered with avoiding. But if it would please Marcel then he would try to do better. ”I will, but isn’t that what you’re for?” He grinned to show that he was joking. Being as independent as he was, the last thing he would do would be burden Marcel with any help he might need in the future. At least any attempt made by the other would result in lots of bitching on his part. He had only let him fix his nose for him because it was easier than doing it himself with a flashlight in his rearview mirror. It didn’t escape his attention that the compliment on the Hispanic’s combat expertise wasn’t deflected by some self-decrepitating sarcastic comment. His drill instructor might have been a hateful p***k but at least he had given his boyfriend the skills to survive in life or death situations. ”There’s plenty t’be proud of, darlin’,” He would gently remind him though he wasn’t going to list them all. It would take quite some time if he did that. He pursed his lips together as he tried to stop himself from smiling all over again when he saw his shoulders drooping as if the information had just taken the wind out of his sails. Virgil thought it might make their search for shop a little bit more fun like some kind of easter egg hunt. ”I’m sure there is. We jus’ can’t give up, especially when we haven’t even started yet.” He was certain there had to be at least one around since just about every culture had their own beliefs in the occult and dark arts. He nodded as he reluctantly let go of him, craving the simple contact despite knowing he would be snuggled up with Marcel in a few short minutes. The werewolf was almost to the point where he was over-exhausted, where no matter how tired he was sleep wasn’t going to come easily to him. Not that he would really complain about it. After what happened tonight Virgil wasn’t so sure he wanted to sleep completely through the night any more. Logically, he knew the time of day probably had little to do with the attacks though the daylight hours did seem far calmer in comparison. He followed him out of the water, pausing for a brief moment with he tried -and mostly failed- to wipe water off of himself. ”Have ya ever seen one of those old time-y coffins? The ones that had th’...” Virgil rubbed the back of his neck as he tried to think of a way to describe it while they headed back to their camp. ”Wider tops with the diagonal sides and were skinner at th’ bottom? They’re outlines of one of those with ah ten pointed star right on top of them...Usually put on the bottom left corner of th’ display window at th’ front.” He looked over to him. ”Haven’t happened t’have seen any around, eh?” Marcel had lived in the area a lot longer than him so maybe there was a small chance he’d noticed something unusual like it around the town. Or, hell, maybe they would get lucky and the symbol was universal. But knowing their bad luck it wouldn’t be that easy. Once back at the truck, he put the bottle away and dug out the blanket, which he offered to his partner first after drying his hands. He busied himself with lighting a cigarette. After all they had just gone through within the last couple of hours, Virgil felt like he deserved it. ”Would it be okay…” He chewed on his lower lip while he glanced toward the tent like it was some kind of monster waiting to eat him. ”If we sleep outside this time? The older man hated giving voice to his weakness, but he didn’t think he had it in him to fight his claustrophobia this time and the last thing he wanted to break down in front of his stronger veteran again.

Marcel couldn't help but grin a little bit at the other man and the Hispanic would gently punch the other man's shoulder "I've spoiled you too much!" he proclaimed in an amused tone. So what if he took good care of his man? The Hispanic would continue do so because dammit Virgil deserved to be it! That was just another reason why he had decided he wanted to learn how to cook, so he could surprise the other man with a nice meal as well as just proving that he could. Now that he thought on it he'd have to get an idea for Virgil's favorite types of food if he was going to learn how to cook. He knew the other man liked his meats and the Hispanic had all but given up on trying to get him to eat more greens. Once the other man spoke though he nodded his head in agreement "I know that here in Japan they're more about the evil spirits and ghosts than actual monsters so there's that..." from his knowledge Japan was more fearful of vengeful spirits and other things of that nature so if they did manage to find a store that genuinely sold those kinds of things then they should at least be good in that department at least. Granted he wasn't even sure if such things even worked but then he couldn't see why they wouldn't work on a ghost like Matthew, it would stand to reason that all ghosts were the same in a fundamental way. Once they were out of the water and walking back to camp Marcel tried to envision the insignia in his head and he swore he saw something similar on the doors of those antique shops. But the problem was that he was so young at the time and by the time he was a teenager he had no interest in something like an antique shop so he never even went by those areas at all "Not that I know of, I swear I remember seeing something like it back in Spain but it's hard to say since my Pápa forbade me from ever going near those antique shops..." looking back on it the entire thing was strange for his Father since the man loved old timey things but then forbade him from ever going near those shops. It was too much for his sleep deprived brain to think on and so he'd just leave the thought at that. As the Hispanic shivered a bit from the cool night air on his wet skin he quickly took the blanket and dried himself off as best he could to get rid of that chill he felt. Just as he was done drying off he'd glance at Virgil with a look of surprise before one of understanding took over "Of course" he stated simply before handing the blanket to Virgil. Marcel would walk over to the tent and first crawled in and threw out the blanket and pillows they were using. Then Marcel would open the tent as wide as he could before he tried to maneuver the air mattress out of the tent. By all means they could have just laid on the ground but Marcel would prefer to at least use the mattress since they had it here. It took a couple minutes of him bent over trying to tug the damn thing out of the entrance but eventually Marcel would manage to succeed and got the entire thing out in one final tug. Marcel would then pull the mattress out and slide it a bout two feet from where the fire was, or at least what was left of it. By now it was near dead embers but Marcel would glance over at Virgil "Get ready and lay down, hold on" with that Marcel would go to gather more sticks and some of the leftover items used for the fire before he began to work at bringing the fire back to life just a little bit. He'd try to mimic Virgil earlier that day and once he had a neat enough pile (Still very sloppy and crude but serviceable) Marcel would walk over to the truck and snatched up Virgil's lighter before lighting a new fire in it's place. It started small but managed to grow just big enough to light up the area once more. It wasn't nearly as impressive as Virgil's fire from earlier but then Marcel just wanted to sleep to the crackling of a campfire. When that was finally done Marcel would crawl onto the air mattress and let out a soft yawn as he rested his head on the pillow "Do I get a passing grade Virgil?" he joked lightly on his performance on lighting a camp fire by himself. Considering he was doing it for the first time and only tried copying his Lover's work Marcel thought he did a good job!

Virgil flinched as if the playful punch was actually painful. "Why do I always fall for guys who abuse me?!" He huffed out in mock exasperation before he happily grinned. No matter how exhausted he was, it seemed he would always have the energy to joke around with Marcel. He guessed he was getting spoiled to the modern amenities and having a stable relationship with someone he trusted to have his back in most matters. But the latter was a wholly good type of spoiling, one that they both deserved and needed. And the older lycan fully planned on continuing to spoil and shower his beloved with love and everything he so desired. He made a small noise as he reminded him about the country’s main focus in their lore. At least it should narrow their search down a little when they finally found a shop. ”Gotta remember t’make sure it’s not somethin’ that’ll keep Vivi an’ Jordan away or hurt them,” he added on before growing quiet while Marcel shared a small piece of his past. It made him chuckle. ”Maybe he was privy t’what they really sold...but he could have wanted t’keep his kid from breakin’ valuables.” It wasn’t hard for him to imagine the Spanish man as a child and reaching for any shiny and expensive antique then accidentally breaking it. "Never woulda pegged ya for someone who's wanna dig around ah Dusty ol' shope though."
Antiques were always so weird to him since he had grown up with some of the objects that were now sought out by collectors. A genuine smile of appreciation crossed his face when Marcel was willing to comply with his wish. Placing his cancer stick between his lips, he took the blanket and started to dry off though he paused when he noticed him purposely striding to their tent as if Marcel was on a mission. ”Wait, I’ll-” He stopped as their bedding was tossed out, followed by Marcel struggling to get the air mattress out. On one hand, he felt guilty for not going there and offering to help him. On the other, watching him maneuver it out was a treat in itself. There was another full moon out tonight, and it was a Spanish one! He was too tired to feel anything though he could still appreciate the view. That’s what he did while he sucked don his nicotine fix. until he was given an order. ”On it, Lueteniant,” He’d drawled lazily with a chuckle. Being bossed around by Marcel hardly bothered him. Well...aside from the issue involving the broken arrow in his chest. He might understand his reasons behind wanting it removed, but being told what to do with his own body irked him Virgil went to sit down on the air mattress on the farthest side from the fire pit and tossed the remainder of the cigarette into the fire pit. The werewolf could already make an educated guess on what the younger man was trying to accomplish. Rather than offering tips on how to do it, he simply watched with a keen interest. Experience was the best teacher in his book, anyway. The fire he made might not be impression, but it would serve whatever purpose his companion wanted it for. Once the former Marine was settled in for the night, he leaned over and kissed him on the forehead. ”Thank ya, my heart.” It was a tremendous relief to have someone understand and not make him explain his reasons for it. "Well, it would keep ya from freezin' for ah little while an’ ya could cook ah fish over it so I'll give ya an A." Vrgil finally laid down and folded his arms behind his arms in his favored sleeping position. Back when he was single, at least. "But only 'cause you're clearly th' teacher's pet." Turning his head to the side to look at him, Virgil winked before going to gaze back up at the stars again. "I hope what happened t'night didn't ruin the whole campin' experience for ya." He didn't think it did since Marcel hadn't demanded they return to the apartment but he wouldn't exactly blame him if almost being murdered made him want to avoid the great outdoors and stay home in the future.

Marcel couldn't help but grin in amusement by the other their playful banter, it seemed like no matter what the two of them would always be able to have some fun even after the worst events. And this definitely was an awful event tonight thanks to Matthew...well...most of it anyway. As the two of them discussed how to find a shop that sold what they needed Marcel blinked as Virgil raised a good point, they didn't want to do anything that might cause distress to those two "Yeah...we'll have to somehow find something that invites good spirits in but keep bad ones out..." talk about something very specific! The Hispanic new that this whole thing was going to be hard but he didn't realize just how difficult this was actually going to be. Marcel would then fold his arms for a moment as he thought about the idea of his Father knowing about the truth of those shops. He couldn't see why his Pápa would know and the other man's second reason was probably the more likely scenario "Heh...yeah, probably scared I'd knock an entire row of shelves over!" he laughed a little bit in amusement before rolling his eyes at the other man "Hey, you can find some neat s**t in those kind of stores sometimes!" granted Marcel actually really had no desire to go looking for antiques and what not because at this point in his life it would be his luck that he'd pick up a cursed object or something along those lines. No thank you. As the Hispanic had worked on getting the Mattress out he'd glance over his shoulder to see the other man enjoying the view "Take a picture, it'll last longer" he spoke dryly, although there was no real heat in his words. He took it as a compliment honestly at this point. Once everything had finally settled down and the soft glow of a campfire was cast over their bed, this was when he was finally able to completely relax. So much has happened tonight, a quintessential emotional roller coaster for the two men. He smiled a little bit when the the other man kissed his forehead and Marcel would simply let out a content hum as he snuggled under the blanket with Virgil. The Hispanic would then chuckle a little bit when the other man gave him such high marks on the fire he built. He then let out a small snort when the other man decided to continue on though "I was going to say, it probably helps I'm sleeping with the Teacher" the Veteran grinned a little at their little back and forth. Personally for the first time building a campfire Marcel was actually rather proud of himself considering he only watched Virgil do it once! The former Lieutenant then thought quietly for a moment as he pondered Virgil's statement before shaking his head "Honestly? I'd say more good came out of tonight than bad" he began "We had a blast exploring all those abandoned buildings...mostly..." the basement of that one house excluded "We had a great romp, that was always nice" he chuckled once more, even if a certain someone was nosy and didn't mind his own business! "We discussed some important things, no matter how much it sucked..." the important discussion of Marcel's life and Virgil's suggestion of turning him was something that needed to be brought up. And now they at least had an understanding of turning the Hispanic to save his life which was a plus "But most importantly...we got to reunite with Jordan and Vivian...compared to everything else...Matthew was nothing more than a bump in the road..." he'd happily belittle the ghost of Virgil's ex, the ******** didn't deserve anymore recognition than that "In fact, he came here to ruin our lives and kill me. But if you think about it he ended doing nothing more than roughing you up a bit and doing us a service" in retrospect it was actually hilarious just how helpful Matthew was to them "If Matthew hadn't done what he'd done I doubt we would have ever been able to see Vivian and Jordan" he grinned up at Virgil "So Matthew can suck the Devil's fiery balls" he laughed a little bit at the comment he just made. Somewhere he was sure that if Jordan heard that he'd be howling with laughter right about now...if he wasn't too busy wooing Vivian "....Besides I think those two looked cute together..so another good thing that came out of it!" probably not what Virgil wanted to hear about his own Sister but it was true! The blonde Hispanic certainly seemed head over heels for Vivian!

There was a small chance she might have said something along the lines about what they were looking for but he was too worn out try to remember any of their one-sided conversations. His expression became a little alarmed as he added his comment about his father. An entire self? Geez, just how hyper was Marcel as a child?! "Aye...we should check around an' see if we can find some stuff t'decorate with when we're ready t'do that." He only said it because he got the sense his companion had little interest in purchasing antiques for some reason. He wasn't being all that serious though. Antique shops would probably have dolls and he preferred to avoid any places that did! His sarcastic prompt for staring at the muscled body left him smirking. He'd already done that! Virgil knew he needed to come clean about the picture he had sneakily taken of him earlier, but he wasn't about to do it when he was so exhausted and could easily get his a** handed to him by the Hispanic. Then again, Marcel looked about as exhausted as he did. Maybe he would let it go without punishing him, but did he really want to take that chance? Nah. He would wait until when he had the energy to run away. Once they were laying down together, the male couldn't be anymore content than he currently was. Even the air mattress felt just as comfortable as the bed back at the apartment right now. Maybe he shouldn't have been so generous with complimenting his fire, but he did have to admit it was kind of impressive for a first time. Marcel hadn't even cheated like him by using storebought fire starter. Their joking around about his class had him laughing. "Mhhmmm. I recommend keepin' it up so ya don't fail." Despite his matter-of-fact tone, he was obviously joking around although he soon settled down once giving voice to his concern about the whole incident.

Virgil turned his head to the side to gaze at him while he talked about their day together. He was glad to hear actual confirmation that Matthew's attack hadn't phased Marcel any. The former soldier made some interesting points about everything, his eyes rolling when he mentioned that one thing. It shouldn't surprise him it would be added into the account of their adventures. "I supposed I should be thankin' that a*****e then." The malicious spirit might have tried to destroy the couple's happiness but, in the end, he had really just reunited them with their deceased family. Virgil groaned and lightly shook his head at his sense of humor. "C'mon now..." Honestly, he didn't want the image of his ex doing something like that stuck in his head! Or any kind of image of him for that matter! And the little imp wasn't done making him feel weird just yet. Virgil grunted when the other shared his thoughts on how the two ghosts had looked together. "I guess," he didn't sound too convinced on the matter. He wanted his sister to be happy, of course, but the thought of her dating that bonehead slightly irked him. Then again, the idea of her dating anyone and potentially getting hurt again irked him so it wasn't as if he had anything against Jordan personally. He grumbled to himself, why in the hell was he laying there and worrying about the lives of ghosts?! "Think they'll actually end up together?" Marcel seemed like he would be a better judge of that than he would be, he was far from being a matchmaker! The man and woman seemed like complete opposites to him though supposedly opposites did attract. It wouldn't take too much longer for a bit more important question to come to him. "Do ya think we'll be with them when we die?" Well, if he ever died in the lycan's case. In Marcel's case, he truly hoped that he would end up with the other two. Vivi had never harmed another soul during her time on earth and, from what he could gather, it seemed Jordan had gotten killed before he'd ever had a chance kill an enemy soldier in combat so maybe only people like them were only granted a peaceful afterlife. His Hispanic wasn't a truly bad person in his belief and deserved to spend eternity relaxing with his best friend. Hopefully, things weren't so black and white out there as some religious texts had people believing. He had no way of knowing if he would be able to go to the same place as humans even if he had lived his days as a saint. His kind were supposedly abominations along with other supernatural races according to some beliefs so there was no guarantee he would end up seeing them again if he left this mortal coil. Virgil was in no hurry to find out any time soon, however.

Marcel snorted a bit when the other man mentioned decorating the apartment again. The entire thought had completely slipped his mind until that very moment and Marcel grinned a little bit at the older man "I suppose we do, although I think it'll be a miracle if you and I actually make the place look good" honestly Marcel had no faith in either of their abilities to decorate a home. The decorating that the Hispanic was good at was decorating a Christmas tree and that was it! Granted though it would probably be a fun thing to do either way "When we both get paid we can go out and do some shopping" they were both getting paid this week anyway so it all lined up in the end for them. He tried to think about what they could possibly decorate their home with but Marcel was just drawing a blank for the most part. All he knew was that he wanted there to be a lot of blues in their apartment but he didn't exactly know what. As their back and forth continued on the Veteran smirked a little bit and let out a low hum as a free hand found it's way to the other man's chest "Oh no, I guess I don't have much of a choice then. Do I?" despite the exhaustion he still managed to purr that last bit out with just the right amount of suggestiveness in his tone. It was all in good fun at that point and Marcel couldn't suppress the chuckle that formed in his throat, he definitely enjoyed the stupid s**t that could say to each other.

Marcel's grin would only widen when Virgil showed displeasure at his comment about the others hellspawn ex "...So you think the Devil has a fire crotch?" Marcel laughed a little bit at the idea "I'd like to think he's choking right on them while being burned for all eternity" hey, a man could hope! The ******** deserved it and all the agony that would go with it! He finally settled down a little bit as their conversation shifted over to Jordan and Vivian and Marcel laughed a little bit at the other man's response. Clearly someone wasn't too convinced on the coupling. Marcel would then let out a small hum as he contemplated the idea "Maybe, Jordan likes to spend time his girls and actually get to know them" he then shrugged "It all really just depends if Vivian's actually interested, Jordan always was really respectful of women. He had two Mom's who made sure to drill that in his head" he offhanded commented "So if she's into him then he'll definitely try to go long term with her, if not then he'll just treat her like one of the guys. You know, hang out and be all buddy, buddy" he chuckled a little bit at a memory "It was funny because he honestly had more female friends than male friends in High School, he once said that I was the only guy friend he needed. I said he was full of s**t" the Hispanic chuckled a little bit as he remembered their time in Spain when they were younger. The two of them had been all but joined at the hip since the moment they met as babies and the memory of so many people asking if they were dating was silly. It probably didn't help that if the other didn't have a hate to the dances or some s**t like that they'd just go with each other and have a good time that way. Finally Marcel was drawn from his musing when the other man posed the question and he was silent for a moment "Being honest? I don't think so, we've both done so many evil things in our lives..." it was a sobering thought but one he had long since accepted as a fact at this point "It sucks...especially now knowing that they're out there able to continue on but...I'm not optimistic about killers like us Querido..." Marcel would snuggle up to Virgil even closer and buried his face in the others chest as he took a long pause "But...I could withstand the fires of hell as long as I'm with you..." he whispered lightly as he looked up at his Lover with a small smile "If we're lucky though...maybe the powers that be will have some mercy on us...who knows..." he didn't want to leave it on such an awfully dreary note. Tonight showed the Hispanic that anything was possible and the two of them had no idea about the afterlife and what dictated what so he could only hope that they would be given just this one mercy and allow them to be with their loved one's.

"We'll never know until we try, right?" Virgil didn't have much faith in his own ability to decorate although he had a little bit more in Marcel's since the man seemed to know how to pick out clothing better than he did. "Though ya know we don't have t'if ya don't wanna." He might be living there but the apartment was still a place where Marcel mostly called the shots. If he was against decorating it wouldn't bother him. He thought it might be nice to make the place to look a bit homier, and it was one small way he knew to show his lover he was committed to making a life together with him. Smirking, he shook his head at the silly question. Normally, the suggestive purr would have caused excitement to blossom but now it only made him amused. Their back and forth always entertained him even when they were talking about mundane subjects.

The older man bit down on his lower lip to keep himself from laughing at the ridiculous question about what Satan's groin might be like. So maybe it was hilarious, but only a little bit! "Jus' because it's what he deserves doesn't mean I wanna think about it. I swear if I end up dreamin' about Matthew chokin' on th' devil's fiery d**k or somethin' I'mma wake up an' punch ya." He threatened with a loud huff though it wouldn't be the worst thing he's dreamed about recently. Luckily, talking about their siblings seemed to help calm Marcel down and give him a break from the torment. "Thought she looked interested when he first asked her out, hard t'tell though. She's as good as wearin' ah mask as we are." It was a skill the two had learned at an early age to prevent any bullies from being able to exploit their emotions. He almost felt sorry for Jordan and hoped the guy wouldn't be too confused by her behavior. A few of her suitors back in the day had expressed their frustrations to him about how she acted as if she only wanted to be friends while out in public and then became a lot more affectionate when in private. They didn't seem to understand that was how she simply was. She wasn't the kind of woman who had the need to broadcast her relationship or love to the rest of the world like it was some status symbol. They were both like that though Virgil was starting to not care about it as much as he used to. Whenever he wanted to love on his Spanish boyfriend, he was going to do it and he didn't care who was watching or had a problem with it. He was tired of hiding in the closet. Hearing the blond had been raised by two women and was respectful toward them had him relaxing more to the idea of the two spirits actually hitting it off. He hadn't gotten the impression Jordan was a bad person but getting to know what he was like directly from someone who shared such a close bond with him was always good. He snorted lightly as Marcel shared a part of his past with his best friend. "You're ah handful. I can't say I blame th' poor guy for only havin' ya as his only guy friend." A smirk fell into place as he tried to imagine what the two had been like back in the day though it vanished as their conversation shifted. He sighed a little as he brought a hand to rest it on the back of Marcel's neck. "...I was thinkin' th' same thing." Though he hadn't exactly hoped his companion would have a more optimistic view on the matter, it still sucked. Virgil had never really thought about where he would end up when he died because he had never believed there was an life after death until tonight. Now he had been proven wrong, however, he knew his fate wasn't going to be a good one. The werewolf saw little point in trying to believe otherwise because, even if he'd never killed anyone, he was sure his sexuality would damn him if that stupid bible was even remotely right. His lips shifted into a sad smile over those sweet words. "Aye...though that doesn't mean I want t'find ya there when I go." Ending up with Marcel in hell would break his heart since he didn't believe the man deserved it. Looking down at him, he matched his smile. "Maybe. Whatever th' hell it is that decides everythin' has gotta see ya have tried t'make ammends." His brows knitted together a bit. "Doesn't seem like ya had much of ah choice in doin' what had did, right?...'least it seems like it from where I'm sittin'." What little he knew about war and the militrary was severally outdated, but it wouldn't surprise him if things hadn't changed a whole lot or was any different from country to country.

Marcel would end up shaking his head a little bit when the other man gave him the option to say no to the decorating "Nah, the apartment looks like a damn prison than a home. It needs some sprucing up" he admitted to the other man. The Apartment had been such bachelor pad for so long and he had never even bothered to try and decorate because he had no drive to do such a thing. But now he felt like it might be a good thing for the two of them to try and do, it would at least be a bonding experience even if it ends up looking like a tornado threw up in the entire place. Which in his opinion, it probably would end up looking like. Still though the idea of it did sound a bit fun to try out. Marcel would end up grinning like a fool when he could see Virgil trying and succeeding to hold back the laugh. He knew the thought was hilarious! The Hispanic would then raise a hand up to his chest in mock shock before shaking his head "Now I'm the one feeling abused!" he gasped with an amused smirk on his lips, the nerve of the guy when he was simply trying to make him picture in great detail! As their conversation drifted from what Matthew deserved and to their own families he could smile a little bit when Virgil confessed that she looked interested in his Hispanic friend "Really? You guys are one in the same" the two of them without a doubt shared some seriously similar traits in a couple ways. The fact that she was also good at putting on a mask like the two of them was just another thing to add to the list. As their conversation flowed the Hispanic would be the one to huff a little bit at his boyfriends smartass comment "You saw how he is and I'M the handful!? I see how it is, why don't you go date Jordan instead!?" he pretended to be upset at the comment but the small smirk tugging at his lips was all that was needed to give away his true amusement. He really was a handful in his youth, truthfully both of them were absolute monsters in their youth and their families no doubt got a lot of gray hairs because of them. Once their conversation took a more dismal tone he couldn't exactly say he was surprised that the other man had a similar thought to the Hispanic. Honestly the two of them were really awful people. He'd then offer a small but reassuring smile tot Virgil as the other continued to speak "Hey, I wouldn't want to see you in Hell either you know..." he knew that Virgil was just as awful of a person and did a lot of evil things in his life but that didn't mean Virgil himself was a wholly awful person. True he was only seeing the good side of Virgil because they were in love with each other but surely the other man was dealt just as bad a hand as the Hispanic. Marcel's smile would tighten a little bit as he ended up chuckling a little bit "...And this is how I know you hold me too high on a pedestal, yeah I was following orders that were given to me but...I don't think that's an excuse..." Marcel was a wicked man during his days as a soldier and he shook his head a little bit "I know for a fact that...if we met while I was still a Marine...you would have killed me on the spot..." he sighed "Especially if you saw some of the things I'd done..." he then shook his head a little bit and lifted his head to match Virgil's gaze before leaning forward and placing a soft kiss on his lips while being mindful not to touch the others nose. He just wanted to silence the other man from protesting anymore and instead focus on the here and now. Once he finally pulled away "Let's just enjoy the moment and not dwell on what could happen" with that Marcel would throw a leg over Virgil's and then would wrap his arms around his lovers torso to hold him close. Marcel would then rest his head on the others chest, listening to the others heartbeat "Mi Luz..." he said softly as his turned head stared up at the stars in the sky, taking in the moment and etching it into his memory forever. The stars, the crackling and smell of the fire, Virgil's thumping hear beat, this was how he imagined heaven might be like if the two of them were actually allowed such an afterlife.

Virgil couldn't suppress his chuckle even if he tried. Maybe calling the apartment a prison was a bit of a stretch, but he couldn't help but think of it as one at times. Only because he hated being indoors for longer periods of time and started to feel caged if he had to. Either way, looking for things to decorate the place with would at least give them an excuse to get out more often than they had lately. A loud snort came from him at his over the top reaction to his threat. "Oh, please. I bet ya hardly know th' meanin' of th' word." That was not a bad thing at all, honestly. He was thankful Marcel had had a good life at least before he'd joined the military. A brow was quirked when he commented about how similar he and his sister were. "Oh? Well, we are twins so maybe that has somethin' t'do with it." Though his contemplative expression would change as a toothy grin broke out across his rugged features. Oh, goddamn it. He knew he needed to keep stupid his mouth shut but sometimes Marcel made it exceedingly difficult for him. His show of mock anger only encouraged him. "Ya think he'd be into it? He did look really cute in his uniform." Of course, the assessment of the young man hadn't escaped his notice earlier though it should be clear that the big dumb brute only had eyes for the older Hispanic. Continuing to joke about hooking up with Jordan was tempting but he managed to resist. Virgil didn't want to push his luck and really piss his lover off.

"I know, so maybe we should do our best t'avoid it." Not that Virgil believed he had a chance at redemption at this point. He wasn't a soldier following orders, he had always had a choice when it came to taking a life and he'd taken them with little thought on the ordeal other than to how much he was going to be paid. A small sigh escaped from him while Marcel went about shutting him down again. He wouldn't say he was putting him on a pedestal exactly, just more willing to forgive the veteran for what he had done. In his mind, they were one and the same in some ways. There was a good chance they had committed the same transgressions but for deferent reasons. Marcel was fighting to defend his country and he was a Black Council lapdog when they needed someone with no morals to do damage control. Both paid killers. It was slowly becoming clearer to him that he might need to be more forthcoming about his own past before the human started to think there was some good in him that existed outside of their relationship. After all, there was a reason why he called him 'My Heart'. He could argue the fact that he was unwilling to hide behind an excuse for the atrocities he'd committed during war made him a better person, but he knew Marcel wouldn't appreciate it so he kept it to himself. Hearing how convinced he was on the thought he would have killed him if they had known each other back in the day concerned him, which was probably true. Especially if he had caught him and his unit slaughtering innocent civilians or he would have died trying to stop them. "Would depend on th' price on that pretty head of yours if I did or not." The former bounty hunter was too stubborn not to argue at least a little though his second attempt was effectively silenced by the kiss. It was hard to continue on after that, not even to admit his old line of work was more along the lines of being a hitman than actual bounty hunting the last couple of decades. Then again, it was more or less the same thing when the posters of the bounties only wanted the target dead. Who said he couldn't enjoy the here and now while dwelling on everything else? He was quite adept at that! But the man could take a hint. "You're right. No sense in worryin' over s**t we can't change." He relaxed further as his lover got comfortable and pulled him close. Their morose conversation had piqued the darker side of his curiosity, but asking Marcel about the sins he'd committed as a Marine as well as sharing his own horror stories could wait for another night. His pet name left him smiling a bit as he turned his head a bit to watch the small nearby fire. Virgil was convinced that anywhere would be heaven as long as he was with the man who had stolen his heart. He was in it right now as far as he was concerned. His free hand slowly trailed its fingertips down his spine as he began to softly hum the tune to the song he had sung to him earlier. Fighting his exhaustion had been easy while they were talking but now they had quieted down, he was starting to fade rather quickly. Hopefully, this time they would have better luck with sleeping.

Marcel would scoff slightly at the other man as he mocked offense and shot Virgil a playful glare and he gently smacked the others chest chest a bit as a grin threatened to break out on his face "Oh really? I know you can be so cruel to me!" he faked total offense before chuckling a little bit and relaxing a little bit. Virgil was always fun to be around and talk too, the other man's smartass mouth was the only one who could actually give him a run for his money on occasion. Marcel would then contemplate the other man for a moment nodded his head "Twins? Yeah, that might be it!" to say that Vivian was how he'd picture Virgil as a girl was an understatement and both were admittingly very attractive. If it were a different life Marcel wold have more than likely had eyes for Vivan, unless Virgil...or Rafe didn't swoop in first. It was so strange to still think that Virgil wasn't his birth name and Marcel considered maybe trying to call his boyfriend by his original name. Would he like that? Or would it just dredge up bad memories? Well he supposed there was only one way to find out, at least that was his thought process before Marcel made an indignant sound at Virgil's claim. Cute!? Well then! Suddenly Marcel decided that he'd have to dig out his old military outfit to see how it looked on him! The Hispanic let out a thoughtful hum as he contemplated the question "I dunno, as far as I'm aware Jordan's straight as an arrow...although..." he put a little more thought before chuckling "...Our first kiss was with each other...and we were teenagers growing up glued to the hip so there's also that!" he didn't need to elaborate on that any further. He then grinned a little bit at the memory. By all means he and Jordan really were completely inseparable, to the point where one of Jordan's Mom's thought we were secretly dating or something. When he was younger there was a point where he pictured himself married to his best friend but he soon enough was able to make the distinction between platonic love and romantic love which helped remove that thought from his head. Besides Jordan did become very popular with the ladies when he got to High School so there was pretty much no way it would have happened anyway between them. And on top of that spending the rest of his life with Jordan? That sounded like a nightmare waiting to happen "I'm sorry to break your heart Querido, but I just don't think he's into sausages" he laughed a bit at the euphemism before snuggling up to Virgil even more.

Once their conversation had drifted to more somber territory Marcel simply nodded his head a little bit at the suggestion. Whatever Virgil ever thought of himself, Marcel would always see the good in the other man whether or not he believed it. He's long since learned however that from both his time spent with the other man as well as his own personal experience that someone can't be convinced if they wholly believe they aren't worth it. Marcel didn't think for a second that his Lover would likely have a chance for redemption but he also didn't believe that he himself had any chance as well. Which was why he could only hope for the best if the day were to come but he knew better and expected the worst. Marcel would then listen to the other man respond and chuckled a little bit at the mention of a bounty on his head and shrugged his shoulders "I see, think I could have gotten some before a bullet got put in my head?" he joked a little bit. Marcel's sense of humor would always remain either one of two things, extremely sarcastic and teasing or extremely macabre in nature. His dark sense of humor was pretty much how he dealt with any horrible thought or situation and honestly it worked for him, he wasn't even bothered by the idea of the hypothetical scenario. Finally once everything settled down and the two were flush against the other Marcel let out a sigh of contentment, this was nice. He never thought he'd see himself quite literally laying under the stars with someone he loved like this. It would seem that even his insomnia couldn't keep him awake any longer as his breathing evened out and Marcel finally ended up falling asleep. What would shake him to the core however would be that for the first time since he was a teenager, Marcel would have a good dream. He dreamt of Virgil and himself on the beach in his hometown of Marbella, Spain. On the Beach he grew up on he'd see his son Dante playing in the water with Jordan and Vivian, all of them having a good time. On the other side he'd glance over and see his Parents hovering over an open fire roasting a whole pig, his Father even laughing a little bit as Marcel's Mother scolded him for putting on too little seasoning. And there next to him was Virgil and the two men sat on a towel under an umbrella, simply relaxing and enjoying the view of everything.

Virgil whimpered in feigned pain after he was smacked. "Cruel? Who's hittin' who?!" He yelped out a bit as if he was truly afraid of being hit again. He wasn't, of course. His kicked puppy look eased up soon enough as they spoke about his female twin. Knowing Marcel prefferred women over his own gender made him wonder if his lover would have chosen her over him if he'd had the chance. They weren't completely identical but it was obvious to anyone who saw the two mixbreeds to tell they were more than just normal siblings. His pondering didn't cause any spike of jealousy in him. It was only that, ponderings and his mind wandering with curiosity as it was prone to do as if it could make up for the lack of wayfaring he had done lately. As ever, however, his boyfriend commanded the attention of both body and soul, and all it ever took was for the Spanish voice to start talking for him to get him to focus again. His mouth tugged into another grin at his story. There probably weren't many people out there in the world that got to share their first kiss with someone they had such a kinship with. The two young men could have been experimenting, confused or something along those lines, of course, though he still thought it was sweet of the two best friends to be each other's first. "That's really adorable an' I bet it was pretty damn halirous, too..." Watching awkward teenagers trying to figure things out would always be amusing! He chuckled softly only to pout like a kid who'd dropped their icecream cone a second later when Marcel shut down his hypotethical scenario of dating Jordan. The blond wouldn't even let him sample his sausage?! Yeah, no...That was one joke he wasn't going to say like so many others.

Most people would probably be turned off by the Hispanic's brand of humor, but he was anything but that. It was just another thing they shared in common in the mutt's mind. They were both sarcastic assholes with a flair for the morbid. He was glad he didn't have to worry about offending his partner and was under the impression he might actually have to try his damnedest to actually causing offense. "Hate t'say it, but I don't mix business an' pleasure." They might be joking around but he didn't see a reason to not be truthful about it. The former bounty hunter might not have even gotten close enough for his target to see him before killing him. When things quieted down between them, he couldn't stop his mind from wandering to thoughts of what would have between them if they had met during the violent times of their lives. Matthew had seemed pretty hellbent on believing there was something more to their relationship and yet after all of it, he was still hesitant to think it was more than it was. But who was he to really say? Ghosts and the afterlife were undeniably real so maybe something as silly fated love was as well. His trail of thought became an even more confusing jumble as he sank deeper into a state that some in-between place of wakefulness and sleep. Feeling the body partially laying on top of him suddenly go lax caused him to stir and open an eye to check on him. A few seconds of listening to his relaxed confirmed what his other senses were struggling to grasp at. The insomniac had actually fallen asleep. Virgil carefully shifted his position enough so he get a better look at his lover. It was exceeding rare to see him resting peacefully. Marcel would always be beautiful to him although at this moment he looked truly serene. "Sweet dreams, my heart," he murmured as a tender smile formed. Their bloody pasts and their unknown futures didn't matter, only being with him did. The older werewolf would keep watch over him until he couldn't keep his fight against his exhaustion up any longer and fell asleep. Perhaps for the first time in his life, Virgil didn't dream. Now there wasn't some malevolent force influencing his dreams while he slept it seemed his mind was making up for lost time and let him properly rest. Hours unconsciously slipped by for him until the songs of various birds began to fill the quiet as early morning approached. Under different circumstances, it would be something peaceful but he didn't find it to be this time as all the noise interrupted his slumber. Damn feathery bastards needed to shut their faces, the sun wasn't even starting to come up yet! Nature's alarm clock was the one drawback to sleeping outdoors but that didn't mean he was ready to start the day. If the big guy had it his way, they'd just go back to bed once they eventually went back home. This was their last day off and he didn't want to waste it! Virgil grumbled and snuggled closer as he reached down to draw the blanket over both of their heads though it did little to block out the chirping.
