Here in Italy there are many ways to tell if someone is a tourist: The way they order their coffee, the way they mispronounce cappuccino AND how they order it at the wrong time of day (That one always kills me), drunken stupors, cameras, confused looks on the faces, they will order spaghetti when they eat at our restaurants, and they definitely don't know when to order what kind of coffee during what day, and the significance of each type of coffee. Ordering a cappuccino during the afternoon is considered rude.

I drink moccaccino during the afternoon >_> Is it considered rude?

Only in northern Italy. Southern Italians jump all over that stuff.

(Not really, but We Northerners are radically different than Southerners. Our dialects pretty much form different languages entirely.

It's hard to understand Southern Italians, but I somehow manage it.

It's not bad to have intercourse, you live in America where they hand out condoms in high schools, or at least they did when I was in high school.

Put-downer. Dx istillluffyouthough!

I guess I'm just a bit of a prude when it comes to sexual interaction. I'm a naïve romantic.

I am glad you still love me, though.

This is the easiest methodology and metaphor.

In Italy: Coffee is an art. Though we call it "caffe" identical to the word for the establishment, but I think it's spelled "cafe" most other places.

The easiest way to remember for tourists:

Cappuccino (or anything related): Morning. These are the coffees that are generally very little in amount but pack a bigger kick for many who have troubles waking up the morning. It is rude and insulting to ask for these past 11:00. This is your American "Starbucks" crap, but in Italy it's much better. Also, we don't serve it in giant cups, small cups with more kick. Americans really don't deliver.

More and less quality =/= Less and high quality

Granita di caffe is a desert coffee, that is usually ordered during special times of the day.

The other big type of coffee is simple:

Caffe Corretto which can be ordered typically any time after noon. This coffee is mixed with a shot of many types of alcohol, different types of alcohol gives the drinks different names, etc etc. The reason we drink it with a shot is to "dumb it down" and it typically tastes better.

Edit: If you order an espresso in Italy, I urge you not to call it "expresso" There are no "x's" in the natural tongue of Italy. It's an "s". Don't embarrass yourself.

Edit 2: There are more "guidelines" than this, but these are the basics, if you know them, you'll pretty much guarantee success in ordering coffee.

Don't worry, I don't say it with an 'x' sound.

Great; now I know if ever I go to Italy (visit you!) 3nodding

If you do come visit me, and order the "spaghetti and meatballs" I will move to another table. I definitely recommend any OTHER pasta than the "spaghetti". The cooks do stuff to it because most tourists are morons. Waiters will also mark down on the tabs at restaurants if tourists are knowledgeable or not though, so that takes care of some of the maltreatment. Capable tourists are given decent food. But I'd still be socially embarrassed if you ordered that.

If you spend more time eating than talking, it is considered to any Italians at your table or at nearby tables. We are socialites, we talk amongst tables. It's quite fun. We are also very loud.

I'm 18.

If I ever see Italy, I don't think I'll have to worry about ordering the wrong caffe. I'm not a fan of the stuff. And I'll be sure to avoid spaghetti. I'm quite partial to penne, actually. That wouldn't make me embarassing, right?

Trowa, do you like fish? That will help me determine your fate in Italy! :big'd: Kidding!~ I'm sure you'd change your opinion about the coffee here if you tried it, it's extremely good.

XDDDDDDD I can read it! And I can read whatever it was that is reflected in the picture.

You were right, my hand writing is better. x3
