The Eleventh AK No ******** that. Nintendo games don't need to be gritty and s**t... which is pretty much all Valve does YEAH THAT'S RIGHT I THINK IT'S DUMB LET'S FIGHT The violence in TF2, HL2 (and its games) are all kind of afterthoughts, I think. The headcrab zombie victims looked gross, and L4D can be pretty ******** disgusting at times, but you can even turn the gore down on that game. I don't find appeal in their gore and grit and violence, they have great gameplay with awesome storytelling and interesting mechanics. Plus great voice acting, memorable characters and just overall polish.

I don't think the violence in TF2 is really an afterthought. It seems to me to be a pretty important part of the visual style. The juxtaposition of the violence/gore and the cartoony "Incredibles" look is a big part of what makes it so funny and entertaining.

and a big part of Half-Life 2 for me was how it was like "hey looked how ******** up this world is WHAT HATH SCIENCE WROUGHT" and that seems pretty "gritty" to me. It's gritty in a good way though, that is my favorite aspect of those games. I just don't think that would really work for something like Zelda.

I suppose initially, yeah. I've played it a ton so I just kind of forget about it, but perhaps you're right. Still, it's not like companies don't come to agreements about things that they want to do differently.

It's gritty in a good way though, that is my favorite aspect of those games. I just don't think that would really work for something like Zelda. Well it would make it more immersive if in the next Zelda game it wasn't just some crazy fantasy story that you never really get connected with, and halfway through the game as you carry the dying secondary character on your back, piano music plays and you go "oh hey, I should feel emotion here, but I have no idea what's going on." I'd like to actually have a game written in English for an English audience. Nintendo games (for me) don't always have the best storytelling or dialog. Funny, yes, and moving, at times, sure, but I'd love for something in plain English and for the love of god, more voice acting. I don't care if Link doesn't talk, it would just be neat to be more immersed in a Zelda game rather than have them all the just like OoT in the storytelling department.

Depreciation Guild is pretty awesome. All their songs sound pretty similar imo, but I dig it from time to time.

I think the thing about Half-life and TF2 is that their gameplay is a separate entity from their visual style...both elements are fully functioning separately, even though they're part of the same experience. Valve's gameplay is usually solid, and perhaps, maybe only for me, more thought provoking? At least in the case of TF2 and L4D. In half-life: I guess it's also true, but times between games like this, I'm more apt to think about story... when I'm actually playing, I guess I think more about how awesome what I am doing is.
