I just don't get why someone would dismiss games on the sole basis that they are first person. like OH THEY DECIDED TO TELL THEIR STORY FROM THIS CAMERA ANGLE THE GAME MUST BE MINDLESS AND DUMB

I don't see how those things could possibly be connected.

OMG THERE ARE GUNS, MINDLESS
How many ******** awesome movies are there with guns? WOULD YOU NOT GO SEE A MOVIE SIMPLY BECAUSE THERE WAS A GUN IN THE TRAILER? WOULD YOU?

you disgust me

It's the same way the other way. I'm sure there are good JRPGs that aren't cliche and tedious, but I'm not going to go out and try every JRPG to find them, because, as a whole, I don't like that genre.

Yeah, I can imagine that if you haven't tried TWEWY, Chrono Trigger, Persona 3 or 4 OR FFVII, they would all seem like the same type of thing to you. And honestly I kinda hate lumping Persona together with the Square stuff I just mentioned and especially with all of the really unoriginal garbage JRPGs that get pumped out all the time. They're just not the same.

Anyway stop arguing I hate it. It doesn't really matter anyway, I just wanted to express my feelings toward FPS games and headache-inducing first-person point of views in some other games.

There are exceptions to every rule.

I personally can't stand turn based stragedies, even though Advance Wars is one of my favorite game series ever.

Well, the headache thing is also something you can't control, and not something related to your tastes. Not liking FPSes and not liking cliche JRPGs is different than getting a sick feeling from playing first person games, so that is a little different, but it's still pretty preferential.

I like first person games, I think it adds a little more immersion to the character when it's in first person. I'm pretty glad no games really make me feel sick, but playing my Game Boy in a moving car used to do that to me as a kid. You really shouldn't get a first person shooter on the 3DS and play it in a moving vehicle. You would probably explode.

There are good JRPGs... I mean, everybody knows I like Chrono Trigger, but yeah TWEWY is also ******** rad. Hell, I dunno if Kingdom Hearts counts as a JRPG, but people hate on it for the same reasons, and I honestly think those games are great. I'll play a JRPG if it interests me enough. But I will be put off when I hear a game is a JRPG, because stuff like Final Fantasy hasn't evolved beyond boring-a** menu based combat in the past 20 years.

I know! I don't like turn based strategy games much, and when a "good" new one comes out I don't really pay it much mind, but I'd probably love Advance Wars too, if I ever owned it.

Says the guy that loved DKCR.

Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh
I'm kidding, I know what you mean. My old line was that Final Fantasy games could be played with a DVD Player's remote.

But DKC has enjoyable gameplay. Like, platforming has always been awesome to me. Picking attacks from a menu has always been extremely boring. With Chrono Trigger I am able to look past it somehow. I'm not entirely sure why.

You know what else kind of bothers me about video games? They're so long. I know, I know, we don't want them to be shorter because we spend so much on them, but sometimes I look back at a game I really love and I think about all of the good things in it, and feel like replaying it, right? But to replay, say, Twilight Princess, would be another twenty or thirty hours at LEAST. If I want to rewatch a movie, it's another two hours. If I want to reread a book though, I suppose that's the same amount of time.

I guess I just kind of wish when you beat games you got a "level select" thing.

Well with Valve games you can go to new game and pick the chapter...

I like long games. With shorter games I don't always feel like I got my money's worth.

Very true, but a lot of games you can't. Valve games also don't seem really long to me. I'm not saying they're short by any means, but you never hear someone go "oh Half Life 2 was about eight hours" or anything. With Portal yeah, but I don't care much about that. The content in those games makes up for their length.

If something is that tightly packed and well made with goodness, then I'll pay for it.

And a lot of games now just let you do multiple saves so if you want to go back to a certain moment it's pretty easy to. But yeah that is a feature more games should have. Sometimes I just want to replay specific parts of a game, not the whole thing...

I love how my favourite game is also the longest game I've ever played. I mean, being long has its benefits, like for example characters and stories are sometimes actually developed and interesting (omg!) and you start to feel attached to it in a way that you could probably never feel with shorter games, but at the same time there are definitely also benefits to short games, like being able to just pick it up and do whatever, whenever. It just depends on the game.

Having to buy games in episodes kind of blows.
