windwaker is what really got me into zelda, to go back and play some old ones, and set the stage for the new ones on the handheld. but twilight princess... the story was just what made me enjoy it more i guess.

Wind Waker is either tied, or just below Majora's Mask in my mind. I have not played through either recently, though. I maybe ought to.
They both have really solid unique elements that make them stand out for themselves, though.
As much as people moan about the sailing in Windwaker being idle filler, I actually quite liked it. When it was new I'd just sail around looking for secrets, trying to find every island, and I had fun doing so. It's got probably the smallest walkable overworld area of any zelda game, but I find that area to be so rich that it really doesn't matter. And the delivery method between areas was so ******** fresh I didn't mind that it was to mask loading times.
That said, I love Termina. It's probably my favorite Zelda world. It's just so weird, and cool, and alive. As in it's inhabited by a lot of individuals who have liiiiives.

Okay so the first Zelda thing is not true for everyone, just for OoT lovers I bet. XD And my ex-stepdad, whose first Zelda was Wind Waker.
When you talk about some of the others ones, I almost wanna like not have a favourite anymore because they're just all so good, except for the NES ones which both suck.
Link's Awakening is good too. No one talks about the handhelds

Link's Awakening is to Link to the Past what Majora's mask is to Ocarina... except a handheld and therefore with a lot less content. --and a lot less that is unique to it compared to it's counterpart.
As far as GB games go, it was quite rich with content, though. It is a good game, and I believe we talked extensively about it, as a group, when the eShop launched.

We did, but no one ever says one of the handheld ones is their favourite! I guess they're just not quite there yet.
