[Kegan] Ahh, but there's still school on Friday; I think that's the reasoning behind that. ...But the Saturday? Still better for all possible parties. I seriously don't get it. Doesn't stop games from releasing on Tuesday.

No it doesn't. But if you're releasing on a weekend, you could benefit from a more strategically sound release day.
I mean, most of the games that launch in the middle of a week do it because they want their release day numbers to be nice round and easy to remember, also so they don't compete with other releases. I can't imagine anything big going on next weekend, or two ago that would have/will compete(d) with zelda or MK7.

As a matter of fact, the majority of all DVDs, music and games are released on Tuesday. Not sure the precise reasoning, but it's fact. That being said, I'm not sure how a Sunday release is better than a Friday or Saturday release. I don't understand Nintendo's strategy.
