it doesn't obsolve me but its usually because the game sucked and woulda been a waste of 50-60$. and they refused to release a demo.

pretty much everything else like borderlands and fallout games that i pirated i now own. cause i find them worth it.

theres still game i pirated for other reasons.

like skyrim. people were getting copies for their consoles early, meanwhile us steam users had to wait another week. WILL NOT WAIT A WEEK MUST PLAY NAO!

my only regret is i missed out on the pre-order heavy hat for tf2... i was late on the pre-order.

Can someone tell me the harm in pirating a book?

i could go into it real deeply but that'd stretch the page.

findable in a store: wrong
college book: perfectly fine (they charge up the a** for some of em.)
Old unfindable book: ok.

Right, but a library card is free, and getting books from a library is free, and they get pretty much everything, right? The only harm in pirating a book that you could rent is that maybe they don't have it at the library near you, so you're stealing, or maybe they figure how much a book ever gets "rented" and determine on buying future books from that writer/publisher based on those stats.

Even still, the only libraries I've been to only have one copy of each book and seem to get pretty much everything.

And a lot of piracy is just that it's more easily accessible. It's easier to just pirate things to get them than it is to pay for them. That's why Steam is so successful. It's easy to find the game you want, give the developer/publisher the money and just have and play it. Not to mention that they have great sales, so you're not getting ******** over all the time by high-pricing.

Then again, I could just be justifying it for myself.

Oh hey, you can get Cubello with Club Nintendo coins now, so if anyone here hasn't (and I know they haven't) go get it.

Except that borrowing a book from a library does send the message that there's interest in it. You aren't spending money on it yourself, but if a book is in high demand then it affects what books the library picks up in the future. A library might even pick up additional copies of a book if it's being requested a lot; my library ended up buying three copies of Watchmen because the wait list was several months long and they've bought a dozen or so copies of The Hunger Games at this point.

If your local library doesn't have a book, you can always request it through interlibrary loan. You'll have to wait a few days to check it out (more if it's incredibly obscure and they have to get it from a library in another state cat_gonk ), but you can always pick up something else to read in the meantime.

If it's old, pretty much none, if it's new, and sought after, it wouldn't be the same as getting ti from the library, because the library probably would either not have it, or not have enough copies.

If you would just wait, though, then there'd really be no difference.

So, wind through the keyhole isn't due out until April now sad When did that happen?

but like with what i said, college books are spendy, in the 1 year i went to college half the books i bought for classes went out of date, which means they wouldn't sell for jack. so i wasted maybe 100$ on books i'll never read again, and no one ever needs to, piracy of those is no risk, i pay for my classes, read the books i need to, fail the class, b***h about it on the internet.

Out of date books still sell well if you take them online. When one school is phasing out a text, another may still be using it. Or some reseller might be buying a ton of them.

True story.

Good insights. I kind of wondered how libraries decided, and that makes sense. My local one just kind of stinks, though.

Would anyone care to have a Mario Kart 7 night? Not tonight, maybe tomorrow?

Perhaps skype and race? Bee time?
