You get what you pay for, most of the time.

[Kegan] You get what you pay for, most of the time. As a Nintendo fan, I don't really think that's true, although I'll admit there's definitely a correlation with Smartphone games. Value ranges with an item no matter what it's priced at. And to be clear with the hardcore/casual thing: I don't dislike most of those games because they're casual. I dislike them because they're garbage and they're not even worth the 99 cents they're asking for. All they serve to do is make people think that games that are actually worth money should be cheaper. Angry Birds and Plants vs. Zombies did not have the same budget as God of War III, okay?

I knows it!
There are some games that I will buy on launch day, no matter what. and most of them are Nintendo games. I will not hesitate to pay full price for a new Zelda.

I just raced Go-karts.
My second time around some speed demon little girl spun me out trying to overtake me on the second lap. I wasn't really in it to win it, but I don't think I could have been going much faster. I guess she just had a faster kart. Atleast I didn't get lapped. IO was down and out for like 30 seconds, so that's something, I guess.
This was like... My second experience behind the wheel of a motorized vehicle. First time in over 2 years.
My 10 year old Cousin thought I was doing good, so I'm happy! xp

HAH. Nah, she was probably no more than 2/3 my weight and height.
The double kart I was riding in in my first race, with my little brother, seemed to turn a lot tighter, but maybe it was because it was slower. In that round I hit a huge pock in the concrete and ran into the inside of the turn. I managed to get up and going on my own with no reverse, though, so I must not have crashed THAT badly.
These things basically went at golf kart speeds, though, so as much as I might have felt like I was whipping around, I was probably doing like 20 MPH xd
...I guess because I was lower to the ground and could feel the wind?

Nomega I mostly said that because people would jump all over me if I just made the blanket statement "My phone is a better gaming system than the 3DS." I think it would be very hard to argue that iPhone or Android have a better game library than any of those systems. I feel like mobile games are lacking the heart that video games should have. If Angry birds is the cream of the crop, then I'm not impressed. Thanks for the clarification! I would argue that lacking heart isn't a problem exclusive to mobile games (it's more of a problem with terrible games in general), but aside from that I don't really disagree with you. And like I said, I don't have a problem with someone not liking the games. I haven't played a lot of mobile games, but I'm inclined to agree with you based on what I've seen. I think Angry Birds is fun, but I could point to plenty of games on any of those systems that I enjoyed more. The Eleventh AK Most mobile games you just play for a few minutes as a quick distraction, whereas games on gaming portables I feel are maybe more engaging? Except that my complaint is about gamers feeling the need to assert that casual games aren't "real" games. You might not like Angry Birds being a quick distraction, but it's still a video game. I agree about preferring games with more to them, though. Although sometimes I want to play a round of Bejeweled or Tetris or whatever. The Eleventh AK and liek they have actual stories and stuff In comparison to mobile games? Yeah, games on dedicated systems have actual stories. In comparison to basically any other medium? Ehhhh... Waynebrizzle [Kegan] You get what you pay for, most of the time. As a Nintendo fan, I don't really think that's true, although I'll admit there's definitely a correlation with Smartphone games. Like I said, I don't have a problem with people disliking casual games, just the insistence that they're not "real games". If you don't like something and you can defend your dislike of it, I'm fine with that so long as you're not being a d**k about it. Oh jeez, fandumb. cat_gonk I'm pretty sure I've had similar arguments with anime fans about pricing; that budget re-re-release is not indicative of what anime does or should cost.

No s**t it's still a video game. Barbie Horse Adventures is still a video game, that doesn't make it good. That's not my point. I'm just trying to contribute to the discussion and help you understand why so-called "gamers" might not value mobile games as much as those on dedicated consoles. I never said I didn't like games as cheap distractions either. I put a ton of time into Angry Birds back when it worked on my iPod. I'm just saying that I, and I'm sure most people here are obviously going to value the latter more and I really don't think that makes us bad people.

I like a lot of casual games. And while I used the example of Plants vs. Zombies and Angry Birds not having the same budget as another game, I liked those games too. Besides those two though, it's hard to find things that are really good and enjoyable. I just feel like a lot of the devs that make these games are just trying to capitalize on it rather than entertain people. Not all of them, but a lot.

I'm just saying that I, and I'm sure most people here are obviously going to value the latter more and I really don't think that makes us bad people. I value Barbie Horse Adventures as much as I value a really bad smartphone app. It's not about the medium it's in. It's about the quality of the product itself. I probably do value intensive games with a lot of depth more, but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy a game that I can't just sit back and kill time with either. Nintendo knows this especially, seeing as they've been kind of leading the casual game charge for a while now. What I don't think people realize is that there are a lot of games they consider "hardcore" that are actually very casual. Mario, for example, can absolutely be considered a casual series. As can Animal Crossing. As can Mario Kart. As can Kirby. Basically, any game that's easy to learn (though sometimes difficult to master), simple, and can appeal to a wide audience is casual in my book.
