If Kirby, Mario and Animal Crossing and the like are casual, then I think I'm a casual gamer. Maybe semi-casual.
Angry Birds and all the other games I've played on a mobile phone are still pretty much garbage, though.

Pokemans is a pretty hardcore game when you think about it.

It's hardcore when you get into it competitively and become obsessed with stats and breeding.

It's more hardcore than you realize. You pretty much spent the time learning it, of your own free will, as a child. Probably with the effort of a grad student and the enthusiasm of an... uhh... an art major?
Think about how much time... how many hours you poured into getting even DECENT at the game. Even the original game with it's 150 manz had loads of depth and s**t. So many moves, so many manz. It's a lot to think about, and now? Like woah, more moves and manz... even new types!

Pokemon's one of those easy to learn but difficult to master deals. Cause, I'll be honest, I beat all of Red with just my Charizard, completely neglecting weaknesses (although I was aware of them). This strategy obviously wouldn't work on a pro player, but that's not what I was in the game for.
And besides that, the more you get into professional training, the more you just realize that leveling and combat in that series is ******** anyway.

The Eleventh AK No s**t it's still a video game. Barbie Horse Adventures is still a video game, that doesn't make it good. That's not my point. I'm just trying to contribute to the discussion and help you understand why so-called "gamers" might not value mobile games as much as those on dedicated consoles. I never said I didn't like games as cheap distractions either. I put a ton of time into Angry Birds back when it worked on my iPod. I'm just saying that I, and I'm sure most people here are obviously going to value the latter more and I really don't think that makes us bad people. This is clearly being misunderstood and I'm going to try and clarify it. My original complaint was never about people liking casual games less or not at all. It was about the sentiment among swaths of the gaming community that casual games literally do not count, especially since it's used to dismiss large segments of the community. Think the hate that Nintendo gets for releasing games like Nintendogs, Brain Age, and Wii Sports. I interpreted Nomega's comment as being part of this since a lot of these people make a big deal about "real gaming" and Angry Birds is one of the popular targets for this, and he clarified that he meant something else entirely. I understand why people might prefer console/handheld games to mobile ones and I agree there so I clearly don't think people are bad for holding that opinion. I just hate that particular attitude.

Like woah, more moves and manz... even new types! i can claim about 1600 hours total across every generation of pokemon game released here that i played in total. 400 of that was on sapphire. up to that gen, i could do the identify a pokemon by the silhouette easy. hell i could tell you where to find it and at what levels. i was a walking dex. then diamond and pearl came out, learned the new ones by heart, then now is black and white. i couldn't tell ya d**k about black and white other than i beat it, and ferroseed is awesome.

lol I did the same thing, just use Charizard and Raichu and everyone else is just for switching in when you gotta heal.

Did anyone else know that Pokemon B/W has a Pokewalker-like thing, except you put your Pokemon on the Internet for awhile instead? Dream World?
I just found out about that.

Man, it's been a while since I've even thought about Dream World. XD I think there's an annoying feature that doesn't allow you to add any neighbors that you actually know... It was helpful for getting berries though. I liked that aspect. And getting pokémon was neat, obviously. XD The minigames got kinda old after awhile.
