Hmmmm, it's been a long time sinc eI last had to fiddle with my drivers. I had a lot of issues with intel updates, sinc eI had to hadnle them as an OEM, and also because I had to swap my motherboard out for a very very slightly different one, which I for some reason thought the computer wouldn't be able to tell the difference between.

When I was having those issues, I mostly waited for intel to release new drivers, but I also got a lot of good advice from the folks over at "bleepingcomputer.com"

If your problem is USB AND sound, it might not be just one issue, and it might be more than just drivers. Did the problems come up at the same time, or one after the other? This is important to know.

ALSO: If you have mouse and keyboard use, now might be a good time to buy some storage media to do a system back-up. It'll be harder to do later. If you can back up your documents and shizz you can do a factory restore, which is usually not as hard as it sounds.

The first problem that arose was the USB thing. Everything but my mouse/keyboard suddenly brought up a driver installation failure message. This was right after a system update, but I don't think that update had anything to do with drivers. It might've. I dunno!

A few days later, I turn on my computer and the sound's gone, too. Since it also has a driver installation failure message, I've been assuming that it's the same issue, but it might be two different problems.

I wouldn't mind doing a factory restore now if that would fix things. Haven't got much of importance on there that I can't easily re-get from the Internet.
It sounds like it must be corrupted driver files or something. Factory reset is probably the only way to go. If you don't have any luck otherwise, I would try running ubuntu off of a usb drive. That way you can test the usb and sound to see if it might be a hardware problem.

But yes, bleeping computer is a great site. Especially not that I realize how late it is and how tired I am.

No, I thought I slept 2 hours the previous night, between writing a crappy paper for Intro To Shakespeare, and was long overdue for some concurrent Zs.

The two hours(probably less actually) I did get were terrible, because my head was still buzzing as my subconscious tried to write the paper, so whenever I closed my mind and emptied my head I'd have these nonsense, half dreaming thoughts about moving around words. It's hard to describe any better than that, but I felt like I was having a psychotic attack. I have anxiety issues.

And it wasn't due for almost 24 hours at that point, haw haw haw.

But I wanted to finish it early enough to be able to read over it several times and fix errors and poor language constructs.

When you did, did you follow a guide or something?

If you did, it'd be AWESOME if you could link me to it...

Haha, the last time I had to was on my old computer, like 2 years ago at least. I'm afraid I haven't had to do a full on system restore since then.

What's your operating system and who made your computer? The company's name comes up before the windows loading screen)

I don't think a factory restore is possible without the Win7 disk, which I don't have...

If they didn't give you a disk with the computer, there's probably a start option menu. I think that is how I had to do it in XP.
