Skaeryll Grr... I can't play Spy. I want to be good as him cause he seems really fun... but I just can't. My best classes are Scout, Demo, and Medic. Probably in order it's Demo, Scout, Medic, Soldier, Heavy, Pyro, Sniper, Engineer, Spy. What items are you using? The best advice I can give abut playing spy is to think about how you look to others when moving around in disguise. Remove yourself from your perspective and think of yourself in the third person of someone else.

I played spy yesterday too for a round and couldn't backstab a single person. It's soooo hard. Also I don't have a Dead Ringer anymore.

Trenn Flashkill Allegro http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=H65rPg5H6N0 Allegro, I'm curious to know if you've seen/heard/are shitting yourself for Star Command. I know I am. It's like what would FTL play like if it looked like the original Xcom. It does look pretty good, though I thought that you were talking about that wing commander freespace thing that looked crazy as ********

Being a spy is hard, and a lot of TF2 is you dealing with the hand you're given, whether it be team compositions (you or your opponent's) or whatever, especially as a spy. It takes a lot of practice and if you play with some of the elite TF2 players it can be impossible to learn. Just keep practicin'.
That said, my advice would be similar to Kegan's and to try to notice how people look around-where they go, what they do and plan your path of attack accordingly. You can't blend in too well (since you can't shoot, switch weapons, reload or taunt, plus you bump into others) so make your time being seen by opponents as short as possible and don't act suspicious. Only use your gun if you're sure of getting a kill or sure that you've been found out (are being fired at) and be sure to decloak in hidden areas (all cloaks make some noise upon decloaking-even if it's not obvious to you, I've been alerted to an appearing spy by their cloak noise several times) as well as cloak when you're far enough away to not be killed (still, change your disguise, as they'll be sure to be saying "spy pyro!") or where you can't be seen.
I wouldn't recommend disguising as:
-Scout (other players will notice you're not as fast as a scout, nor can you double jump, but it's not a bad disguise if you're running around closer to YOUR base, where they think a scout of theirs might be) -Soldier (too slow. Spies need speed to catch up to and backstab enemies) -Heavy (waaaaay too slow and also too big) -Spy (if you're a spy spy, you are wearing a mask, always. You're usually near their base where a spy on their team might not be wearing one and spies in general make their team think about and more wary to spies.)
That said, I recommend switching your disguises often if you can, whenever cloaked or between lives. Try to act like the class you're disguised as.

Yeah, the classes you should disguise as have the same base speed as spy. Sniper, pyro, medic, demo and engineer.
Naturally if you're an engineer you'll be on the lookout for spies, pyros too, but a lot of idiots play pyro. People who can see that you are disguised as them will be onto you immediately. When a medic isn't healing someone I'd also be leery of him. The safest bets are usually a demo or a sniper, but avoid being predictable.
Also, by default pressing B disguises you as the last thing you were disguised as. This is good for escapes, but don't let them see you disguise.
Also get a dead ringer.

Is anyone here still enthusiastic about that series?

That said, I recommend switching your disguises often if you can, whenever cloaked or between lives. Try to act like the class you're disguised as. good basic spy guide fish. with that anyone can go far as a spy, but the really tough tricks to master make an excellent spy like you. the real trick to being a spy, never employ the same tactic twice in a row. take me for example, i use the dead ringer. i'll disguise as one of my own team as a non spy, (usually scout cause its easier to sell an easy kill on you)and if i see a sniper ready to kill someone waiting at the gate for the round start, i'll warn them and stand in their place, activate dead ringer, wait to be shot, and then move and switch disguises immediately if all goes well i'm behind their front line killing any snipers and then stabbing our way to the first point and making my own way to the next point. another part is, the gear has to be part of your strategy. whats your method of infiltration? feign death, never be seen for brief periods of time, or sit in one spot for long periods waiting for that perfect moment? what purpose should your tools serve for you, whether it be to get more cloak back, do damage and such, pistol selection beyond the basic revolver really counts here, knife selection as well. the combination of the two should cover for each ones possible drawback (like using an Enforcer while using the spycicle. if possible i use the le'trange revolver and big earner knife with the dead ringer. chances are i'm going to stab someone and get noticed, why not do it in a way that recovers any missing cloak so i can continue to feign death? the basic gear is more than enough to fool most people, but when you start collecting the new weapons, its a good idea to plan out what works well together for you personally. for me it turned out having a WAY better computer than previous was what i needed xD. lag as a spy is not helpful to anyone. so you CAN be spies like us (MOVIE REFERENCE!)

You can actually make it look like you change weapons as a spy.
Press B and it'll change to the weapon in the corresponding slot like if you choose the knife and press B it'll swap your disguises weapon to the melee slot.

Xilo The Odd the real trick to being a spy, never employ the same tactic twice in a row. Aaaaactually, if you're doing it right, you won't even give them a chance to figure you out. The only people you have to constantly switch your game up on is engineers, and only if they have half a brain.
