But Nintendo Power is so much more enjoyable to read than any site. I think so, anyway.
Perhaps it's mostly sad because it's another sign that the age of our childhood is over. I have some very fond memories of getting my mom to get me game mags from Goodwill, mainly Nintendo Powers, then going home and reading them cover-to-cover. Even if they were back issues, I'd learn about a ton of games I'd never seen or heard of before because I was a dumb kid. I've always loved reading letters to the editor and looking at all the art and screenshots and silly little features.
That was how I first heard of Harvest Moon, reading about one of the GBC titles, and wanting to play it sooo badly. It's odd to think I could make such a dream come true instantly with my computer, and that I could find out about any game ever right now. But, that kind of takes away the fun or something, I don't know.

I used to read gaming magazines as a kids and obsess over the games they'd do features on. (even though I never played them. Hello symphony of the night)
Of course I also got on the internet from a ridiculously young age, especially considering I was a 90s kid, and things were a lot simpler back then.
I remember I'd find these sites, which were basically just fan sites, where these people would collect all sorts of art. Looking back it's amazing I probably found no porn, atleast that I could recognize.
One site, I remember quite well was called "Snift Broad's Aqua Base" Snift Broad was a recoloring of Protoman, to make him blue and red. Think of it as "My Original Character Blonic" from 1997 or 1998.
I remember I got up the courage to email the guy who made the site and asked him about his character, and getting the nastiest reply back about how dumb my email was, and being like "dude im just a little kid"
And that is my fond childhood memory. The internet was like this vast crazy thing, and google was new or not yet part of AOL, and I was finding new hidden treasures every day. It was kinda like an adventure when I look back at it.

I just don't want to take the time to sit and read NP. It doesn't help that I have a hard time reading with the lighting in my room, either. They've gotten better with some features since Future took over, but I just never got around to it.

(But seriously, though, I wrote about castlevania symphony of the night, about alucard and all that stuff, and I don't think I even played a good castlevania game until the GBA...
And you know what? I see my little brother do the same thing. It's eerie.)

I had a subscription. Guess what? The magazine was pretty shitty in its final years. It really shouldn't come as a big surprise that they went under, especially with Internet blogs out now.
That said, the last cover was pretty well-done.

The issues they printed when you were a kid won't vaporize, dude. Kids these days aren't really making the same connection that we were with these kinds of publications. If anything maybe that is sad?
Also wow, I didn't get a look at my post until now, and I guess my keyboard must be dying?

It did get a bit better when Future got it. More honest reviews, better articles, better design. Full page pictures of just sprite artwork and cool bonuses, like in the second-to-last issue with KIU AR cards and stickers from sticker star.
