I_love_Inuyasha1 Jaycorn The Great Gatsby is going to be a movie? Ugh... bad memories of the worst English teacher I ever had making us sit in class and analyze the ******** out of every single detail regardless of whether or not it was important until our brains turned to mush. Aren't you... an English major? I feel you, though. That's why I hate English, and now reading in general. sad Yes xd I'm majoring in it because it's the easiest for me to get good grades in, not because I love it. I think it's mostly a waste of time, personally, but hey, degree gets better jobs. And I hate reading in general now, too, because of school. It's so great when you don't HAVE to read anything, and can just read whatever you want if you want, though. Oh well, it'll be fun again after college. razz

Any of you dumb butts know anything about what a good sketchbook would be for casual doodling in mostly pencil?
I should but some good pencils too. If I order this stuff online it won't be here till the next semester begins and I'll just ignore it in favor of playing with mud.

Yeah, it's pretty upsetting. I used to like reading a lot! Dammit, SCHOOL. It really is. I find myself only able to handle tiny books anymore, though. Yeah, probably!

In junior high I loved reading because somehow every book we had to read for English class was good. The Giver, I Am David, Forbidden City, A Christmas Carol, The Outsiders... good times. And whatever poetry or short stories we read were good, too. Plus that's around the time when EVERYONE was into reading manga for some reason, but no longer.
And then in high school we had to read all the classics or whatever and bleh. The only book I really liked at all was Flowers for Algernon. The rest were Catcher in the Rye (UGH most annoying protagonist ever), Fahrenheit 451, Lord of the Flies, Great Gatsby, Macbeth/Romeo and Juliet/Measure for Measure, To Kill A Mockingbird, The Island of Dr. Moreau, The Story of English, Tess of the D'Urbervilles, The Handmaid's Tale, poetry from old, classic poets that people actually know.
BLEH. At least not as boring as most of the stuff I am assigned to read now. FOr some reason it's like the school doesn't think anything written before the year 1900 is worth reading. People used to write in ******** run-on sentences and English didn't always have concrete spelling/grammar rules. =__=

Jaycorn http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDt4FJLH9ww I just learned that Tikal and her civilization are inspired by the Mayans and this song is unforgettable so I thought it would be appropriate Wait... really? You just learned that? Although, I was obsessed with Tikal and Knuckles. I guess most people don't care about Tikal. ;w;

People used to write in ******** run-on sentences and English didn't always have concrete spelling/grammar rules. =__= I have a bad memory, but I think I've always read classics in English. I don't think classics have been ruined for me though, since I read them even before English killed the joy of reading for me. Plus I was never forced to read the "good" classics like Watership Down, Frankenstein, Metamorphosis, etc. in a class. Dude, right? No one reads manga anymore! I got really into American comics in high school, though, and then I stopped being able to handle shitty books. XD By senior year I got to the point of using Sparknotes only, with the exception of Catch-22 which I love. Of course, guess what, the ******** idiots in my English class hated it! Oh my god, I HATE PEOPLEADGHJAGFJHGA Thanks for killing my love of reading, ENGLISH CLASSES. scream God damn, Flowers is good. Hah, I actually like Holden just because he's such a whiny little s**t. I can't explain it. I liked Mockingbird, Gatsby, and Flies even though I read them in a class. Hate Shakespeare, didn't read the others you mentioned. Read Fahrenheit 41 during senior year because I hated what we were supposed to be reading. Thought it was great. Poetry is alright to read casually but having to read s**t poetry and then analyze it with people who actually like it? Murder me. Oh god that sounds horrible. I hate authors who just describe things for days and just can't stop their sentences. Hm, what do you mean? Colloquial stuff?

No, like stuff from the medieval times or just like hundreds of years ago. It just doesn't make sense anymore and is soooo tedious to read.
Also omfg, one time that teacher we studied Great Gatsby with... made us play limbo during class because we were reading a poem called Limbo. It was so bad she recited the poem and made us awkwardly clap and play limbo and flkdsjfldskfkdj why
And then she made us watch a disturbing movie about black slaves on a ship that made some of my classmates cry because that's what the poem was actually about.
