I have a special hatred for modern "hipsters" because I basically tried to be like one when I was like 16 and still trying to figure out who I was, and was being influenced by my best friend at the time. We would both seek out bands nobody had heard of to listen to regardless of whether or not they were any good, and would only listen to "indie rock" and s**t like this. We'd close-mindedly reject anything that did not fit into that category. We'd generally try to be all hipstery and it just bugs me

My mom's bf refuses to listen to anything that has ever been mainstream as well and literally all of his music sounds like s**t and I was made to go camping at an indie music festival with him and my mom amongst hundreds of hipsters who enjoyed playing guitar around the fire, eating weird food, reciting poetry and being filthy and basically all the bands were boring as hell and i wanted to go home so badly crying

You know what I like? Swimming. Just floating around underwater and feeling super clean and at peace and free of irritating thoughts. Just being alone in the water under a clear blue sky. Living in the present, very tuned into the body's sensations rather than into the brain's balderdash. It's like becoming part of the lake and not being a stupid person anymore. It's also quite nice to lay in the sand and doze off, especially when you're with your favorite person. It feels just like freedom.
I miss summer.

Jaycorn Bleh, I sort of hate competitive battling anyway, and the way people are so intense about it. RPGs just don't really make great multiplayer versus games. Like, I battled Fish in Fossil Fighters and won the first time simply because I was further ahead in the game, and then the second time he beat me because he'd put way more effort into his guys than me (I just made mine good enough to beat all in-game foes). There's no skill or satisfaction there, it's just time and effort. I guess it can be fun to some people, especially if you're battling relatively equal Pokemon, but it's not really my thing. I get feeling like it's not worth it if a task is just time-consuming, but I'm not understanding how putting in the effort to come up with a good team doesn't have any skill or satisfaction in it. I didn't appreciate the amount of time I needed to reset the fusions to make a Beelzebub with all four ma-dyne spells in P3 or a Trumpeter with immunity to everything in P4, but figuring out how to fuse those skills onto them, getting everything together for it, and finally succeeding and using them to kill everything was incredibly exciting. Jaycorn I absolutely appreciate certain new features, especially if they make the game less tedious. I just also like how humble, straightforward and small a lot of older games are. They could make normal DK or Kirby platformers without it having to be a "return". The gameplay and look that made Sonic king didn't need to be called "classic". Now they can't make an old-style Sonic game with new, interesting levels; they all have to be uninspired throwbacks to the old levels. Yoshi and Kirby didn't need to be made of yarn to be interesting. This probably doesn't make sense. I haven't played either of the epic yarn games. I agree that Yoshi and Kirby don't need to be made of yarn to be interesting, but is the yarn aspect utilized in ways that are well thought-out? Is the game still easy to play with these new mechanics? Does it make the game overly complex, or is it still pretty straightforward? You can take a franchise in new directions without ruining it, basically. While I get the complaint, when earlier DK/Kirby platformers came out that was all those series did. Since then we've had spinoffs for both series and neither really had much in the way of platformers during the Gamecube era. Selling them as a "return" to platforming might be the best approach when it's not what a chunk of your audience is familiar with from that series. Also I thought they were both sequels, and that's a good way to let people know that. How much of both games is a rehash of older platformers vs. how much of it is actually new is also a factor, but I haven't actually played either game so I'm not even going to try to discuss that. I don't know what to say about Sonic. Jaycorn I also just kind of prefer the first Smash Bros. and Pokemon because there wasn't all that serious competition surrounding them. I obviously can play the latter Pokemon and SSB games without being very competitive about them but the fact that I'm not just makes me feel like I suck. xd Ignore the fandom and don't let it affect your opinion of the game. There are awful fans of everything and you're better off just associating with fans who aren't awful. I could probably respond to some of your other posts but it's nearly 4 here and I need to get some sleep. Maybe tomorrow.

I feel you about the competitive scene surrounding Pokemon and Super Smash Brothers. Before I found out about the competition scene behind them, I'd play them just for fun. Now that I do happen to know about it, my whole gameplay seems to revolve around it. When a new pokemon game or Smash game comes out, I immediately want to know how it changed the Meta Game.

I'm mildly excited for the new Mario and Luigi. What they showed at the event didn't reveal a whole lot, but what it did show was creative as always. I definitely enjoyed Sticker Star, but the stickers didn't really change the game all that much. It's also weird how there was practically nothing to do outside of the main story. Most Mario RPGs aren't like that. Hopefully M&L will have more to it.

I think Sticker Star kind of sucked, so I hope M&L: DT doesn't do the same thing to the M&L series. I like how every installment of the M&L games has such a cool concept like going back in time to team up with your younger selves or playing inside of the main enemy of the franchise and this one looks even cooler, having you play inside of the cowardly character's sub conscience.
I also hate having games get too competitive, but a little bit makes it fun. I definitely don't think the first Smash Bros. is the best, but there was something more pure about playing it as opposed to how competitive WE came to be up during Brawl's release. It's nice to just play it and laugh and have fun and not have to win or lose, but just to be able to laugh at what happens. Kinda what I hate about Brawl, because everyone expects me to win, so when I lose, a parade is held in their honor.
As for Pokemon... I don't train my Pokemon to play better against other people, I just train them to be better against other NPCs. I think that's fun. There's a lot of depth there and a lot you can do to make your team stronger or more clever.

And Jasmine's mom's boyfriend is a total douche, I can again, vouch for that. I think the main problem is that I hate people that try to hard to fit into any category. It's why I don't like "gamer gurls" and instead like girls like Jasmine that enjoy video games on their own terms. It's why I don't like hipsters, either. You DO have to try to get an iPhone (seriously overpriced), make yourself start buying vintage stuff (you would think this is easier since it should be cheaper, but that's not always the case. Lots of hipsters just shop at expensive stores now because big companies realized they can monetize douchebaggery) and start hating on anything you've already heard of.
Why is it so hard to just like what you like and then live?
