Darn time zones..I miss out on all the best conversations!
I have to admit I wasn't entirely sure about Mega evolutions when I first heard about them. I guess I, like most other people, instantly linked the name to Digimon. Then again, I wasn't sure about the name "Wii" when I first heard it either..but as with most things Nintendo I quickly warmed to the idea.
I can't see the mega evolutions being complicated but I do hope they are kept balanced. I should think they would be. I would hate for them to be something of a gimmick too.
What is also important, in my opinion, is that all this focus on mega pokémon doesn't take away from both new pokémon and evolutions of older ones..the mega forms should just be the icing on the cake. I'm sure that will be the case.
And it would seem that there is lots to be excited about in the game(s) anyway..X and Y have quite a bit of potential to be real greats if things work out. Here's hoping.
I mentioned Pinsir and Gengar..and in fact I think I'll make this the topic for today's question thread...but it really boggles the mind to think that each pokémon could, potentially, get a mega form at some point..
Mega Alakazam mayhaps?

I don't know why nintendo doesn't just give us the "all-previous regions" game. It could have a new story, it could have new gameplay mechanics, but they wouldn't have to introduce many if any new pokemon.
I know they want to make new pokemon to keep the merchandise train rolling, but it's gotten to the point where the people who are new to the series don't recognize the classics. So it'd all be new to them anyway.
Didn't Heart Gold and Soul Silver revive the franchises declining popularity? Maybe it only seemed that way. That's IMO proof that people don't really want new pokemon as much as they want new pokemon games.
People, as I'm constantly saying (and will probably never stop saying), just need an excuse to revisit the same games over and over. See: Animal Crossing, modern Mario games and I guess Smash Bros. too.

Meta_Fish What other Pokemon do you really want Mega forms for? I wonder if they'll update with more Mega forms later on... I'd want Mega Ho-Oh, Mega Genesect, Mega Golem, Mega Scizor, mmm-mm. So excited! It sounds like you're a bit too excited. >_>;

It was a BIG rumor where I grew up that you could evolve Nidoking into Nidogod.
