Bah. I almost completed a playthrough of FTL. I had all of the enemy ship's weapons disabled, and I just kept missing with my missiles when I tried to get their shields down. Imagine my rage! IMAGINE IT
I had to just give up, because their shields were crazy strong and boarding would be suicide. Coincidentally I tried boarding and it was indeed suicidal!

Man, are there even 8 people active in the spam can?
I guess there have been like 10 different posters in the last week.
Anyway, the point is, Fish should play the first two bioshock games because he already owns them.

[Kegan] I deeed eet. I beat FTL On easy! before you go out on normal, i'd suggest unlocking the other ships first. i beat it on Normal. and have all its ingame achievments. some on easy some on normal. my next goal is to get them all to Normal.

I have the Engi and Zoltan cruisers, in addition to the federation cruiser I unlocked by beating it. I like the Engi Cruiser, since it starts with drone control, and has extra drone slots. Also you can passively heal anywhere on the ship.
I beat the game with the kestral, though. I got pretty lucky and scored a lot of scrap early on and invested in drone control and good shields and I STILL had a near brush with death, or 3.

yeah having even just tier 1 of cloak is nice against the final boss.
MISSLES
CLOAK
WHIFF
though they wont charge back up fast enough for the next volley. taking out that missle platform each wave is almost required or having a defense drone out there.
good luck finding the Crystal cruiser. if you can, i recommend using teh stealth ship when you get that for it, finding the right events becomes much easier.

Hah. yeah. I didn't really use the cloak until phase 3, I think. Whenever it would shoot it's weird zoltan shield at me.

yeah suprisingly it can be a very tough phase if you dont have cloak and 4 bars for the engine. that s**t can cause a lot of havoc if it gets past your shields.
and i only use 1 bar for cloak. its usually all you need and tehn it doesnt take forever to recharge.
the drone phase is what usually gets me... the storm, the boarding drone, the annoying defense drone II... boarding crew helps though.

It definitely reminds me of the Genesis days. I'll have to play more when I'm back home, because the arrow keys on the keyboard I'm currently using are all smushed into a single key and just sucks in general.

There's a long tradition of games in that vein, starting with the rise to popularity of star-craft. In some missions you'd have a powerful unit to fight with or against and Someone thought, "What if we made a game about just those guys?" And they made a warcraft III mod called "Defense of the ancients" and yeah...
People just do.
It's a bit like asking why people like games where you jump from platform to platform.
