Now where did I put that wand?Grayson looked up from his book as he noticed the students coming in. He didn't know how long he had been sitting reading, but the effect was always the same. Usually it would end with him being confused about what was going on, but today was different. He was supposed to be teaching the class, and as usual, it left him a bit awkward as to how to go about it. He however decided to go about doing it the simple way. "Hello, class, and welcome to History of Magic. I am your professor, Grayson Powell. In this class, there is no wandwork, since magic doesn't help you to learn about history. Therefore, your wands will need to be put away." He stood, taking his feet from off the desk and faced the children directly. "History is a collection of events, as I'm sure you are all well aware of. However, these events help to shape the world around us. If not for the witch burnings of the sixteen hundreds, we would not have the Statue of Secrecy. If not for the crises of the last century, we would not have cooperation of all magical folk." He glanced around the class, letting his gaze fall over each of the students. "Now, can someone tell me, besides what I have stated, why history needs to be learned?"---------------------------------- Location: History of Magic Classroom State: Teaching OOC: ... ----------------------------------

History of Magic at 1 pm and Astronomy at 11 pm. She wasn't sure if she'd be able to stay awake that long considering how early she got up. She was too excited to go to sleep after breakfast so she spent her time loafing around the Common room, enjoying the mountainous view and reading her new textbooks. Her favorite so far was The Standard Book of Spells, Grade 1 by Miranda Goshawk. She already managed to perform the Levioso charm!
But by the time she did that, it was time for lunch and then History of Magic. She was glad that she had set out early to find the classroom because it was certainly hard to find...or rather everything was hard to find in Hogwarts. She didn't believe the cautions of a few older classmen when they told her that the stairways moving until she actually saw them move herself. Then she was extra careful and made sure to always ask where she was and how to get to where she was going. She had made it to the classroom early along with a couple of other students and spent her time reading until the rest of the students gathered and sat down. She was in the second row, accompanied with some other Ravenclaws and eager learners.
Piera sat up straight when the Professor, a somewhat scruffy looking man about the same age as her father she would guess, finally looked up from whatever it was that he was reading and spoke to the class. After he introduced himself, he explained to them that they wouldn't need their wands so to put them away. She had already assumed as much and so hadn't bothered to take her wand out, but noticed a few students slip theirs back into their pockets or bags.
The young Ravenclaw girl focused closely as he stood and spoke about History and how it shaped their world, from the Salem witch trials to...something that had happened in the last century. Piera frowned slightly but was even more interested now. Her father had told her about the Statue of Secrecy and when she asked he admitted that there had been real witches during the old witch hunts in the sixteen hundreds. But he hadn't mentioned anything recently... However her thought process was lost as Professor Powell asked the class a question. After only a second of thinking, Piera raised her hand. Once or rather if she was called on, she would answer, "So that it won't be repeated."

Robin 'Theo' Gibbs Eleven year old Football Prodigy House: Gryffindor{|}Football Club: TBA{|}Mood: Calm Theo walked into the class, ready to go. He knew History. Sure, he did not know wizard history, but he knew that he was good at history itself. So this really should go well for him. He did know that that might not be the case, but he sure hoped so. He took a seat in an empty chair and started writing notes as the class went along and when the professor posed a question. He quickly rose his hand and the girl beat him to his answer, but before he was forced to lower his hand, he thought of another answer, on the spot. He was glad he did too. When the teacher motioned for him to answer, he began explaining.
"I always thought history needed to be learned because it could possibly help develop my personal point of view on recent or current events. So I say that this person is in the wrong today in court, but there is a historical document written ages ago saying that what I thought was wrong is actually 'socially' accepted upon human right; naturally, I would change my opinion. It doesn't really have to be just for documents. That could fit any situation good or bad. I mean, it kind of fits hand in hand with you saying that it shapes the world, but I'll go far enough to say that ALL current and historical events are somehow interconnected, like your example with the witch burnings," he said to the teacher, completing his wordy explanation. He loved history and this was definitely a subject he personally felt that he was going to excel at. I hated every minute of training, but I said, 'Don't quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion.

You o f f e n d my D E L I C A T E little sensibilities....Slipping into the class, Del quietly took a seat, excited and extremely anticipant of the upcoming lesson. Being one of his passions, the young blonde had grown up surrounded by the past, from the ancestral home to the ruins and remains his father had travelled to as a scholar and the various old volumes that he had grown up reading. Unlike most children, he had grown to love it and relished in what it had to offer. Having already seated himself and tucked his wand into his bag- - - unless it had something to do with practical runes or some sort, it was purely a quill-and-ink thing.
When the professor asked a question, the blonde raised a hand and spoke, following the previous student.
"History is the means to understand both the past and the present," Del Rey began. "It's the magister vitae, the teacher of life, in that it is a necessity for is to learn history in order to understand and work through the world we live in now, seeing as the way society interacts and functions is a result of history, and by it, sets a platform for the steady evolution into what it is today." .... The redhead's first impression of the class and the professor was relatively normal. Sitting himself, he made himself comfortable and listened to the Professor- - - Powell, as he had said his name was. The question he had raised, was why history had to be learned.
Waiting for the others in the class to finish his answers, Kas raised his own hand, and when they had finished, began his own understanding of it.
"History prepares us for our life in the present and provides means and experiences to tackle the challenges of the future by learning from it." The redhead continued again. "It is the means of being taught by the wisdom and the folly of our ancestors and to learn from their knowledge and avoid or find solutions to the mistakes they had made or encountered."
Finishing his explanation, the Ravenclaw fell silent.
He had done his part, and that was that.

"Broken glass, shattered shards. As my sweet relents, my bitter comes forth. Prepare for the end." Claire walked into class, resigned to what she was about to learn. She didn't care about the history of magic...she didn't want to know who invented what, Claire was interested in the practical applications of magic, not the history behind it. Her outer facade however did not show this discomfort, she was her usual, smiling, fake self.
Taking a seat near the back of the classroom, Claire listened as the professor began to speak.
Listening tot he various responses by the other students Claire frowned, what was the use of history anyway? She didn't care, so she didn't even bother to answer.
So she just listened. My feelings? I'm bored you know? Precious thought of mine, "History? Really?" I'm a Slytherin. Did you know that I'm a first year? My strings are being pulled. "..." Out of character.

Echo smiled as he sat with Piera and Kas, his parchment and quill out in a flash, ready to take notes. He'd only been looking forward to this lesson all summer, after all. Gypsy had freaked him out a little bit, talking about the awful, horrid professor who'd taught the lesson last year, but Echo had a hard time believing the man at the head of the classroom was that man. This professor seemed very nice, and like he cared very much about the class, and his students. She'd mocked the man mercilessly for his accent, so when Professor Powell spoke without one, Echo was relieved.
As he spoke, Echo found himself growing more and more excited for the lesson. When the students had entered, he'd had his nose stuck in some book, and he seemed very enthusiastic about his subject. Just the way Echo wanted it; he loved History, after all. He considered speaking up when the professor posed a question to the class, but his fellow students beat him to it. Oh, well. He had plenty of time to get on the professor's good side, after all. He started taking notes, eager to learn all he could from Professor Powell.

Seeing an empty seat near her friends she took the seat immediately beside Elsie but waving to Echo and the two other student beside him. She saw that her Ravenclaw friend was already reading and writing notes making her smile at his predictability. When it came for another answer to the question she raised her hand after thinking for a second. "History is like a story that has no ending only new beginnings." she replied quoting one of her earlier teachers. Life goes on It gets so heavy The wheel breaks the butterfly Every tear, a waterfall In the night, the stormy night She closed her eyes In the night, the stormy night Away she'd fly.

Later than I would have rather... but at least it gives me an idea where to sit. David sighed as he entered the classroom, having gotten turned around on the revolving staircases. It irritated him. He noted that Kas, Piera, and Echo were already there and sitting together. He frowned and decided it was best to take a seat away from his housemates considering how the sorting feast went: after all, he was probably currently the most hated Ravenclaw. He took note of the professor who was far more laid back in feel than the adults he was used to. He quickly evaluated the room and decided to sit next to Claire who was putting on her false airs. He glanced at her and nodded as he pulled out his textbook, clean parchment, a quill, and the notes he had already made from the book during the summer. He listened as his other classmates answered why history needs to be learned. Laying a quill down he was tempted to raise an eyebrow at all the answers. It wasn't that his classmates didn't have a point it was that they apparently missed the singular the professor said-he had said 'someone', the singular, to answer. Then again maybe everyone was eager to impress: he couldn't blame them. With a sigh he neatly wrote a note on his clean parchment as he listened: However, we should not forget: "History is written by the victors -Winston S. Churchill"

Kayla walked into the classroom and took a seat near the front, already the class seemed to be getting into swing, despite it only being open for a minute at most. She had always heard that a ghost had taught this subject until halfway through Tyler's time at Hogwarts, What had happened to the famous Professor Binns? Was he still lurking in the castle? Had the Headmostress determined he should cease teaching? The questions were filling her mind o much she could not focus until they were answered. She raised her hand, a curious expression on her face. "Umm Professor, excuse me for the interruption, but I am slightly confused. My family all told me that a ghost taught this subject, and yet you are clearly not a ghost. So what happened to Professor Binns? Not that I'm complaining, from what I heard no one could stay awake in his lectures of Goblin rebellions and Troll Wars. I am merely confused." she said with her hand still in the air. She gulped slightly, hopping she would not get in trouble. Did I overstep my self there? she thought a tad worried.

Sadly she could have rather being doing something else anything else really. Unfortunately she didn't have a choice she had to go to history. Sitting there quietly Leonette knew why history was important and since everyone seemed to answer it she just remained silent. ↳Gryffindor, First year, Muggleborn ↲ History was something he could kinda get behind but history of magic seemed a bit strange for him. He guessed if this world was around for a long time like people 'claimed' there would be a lot of history but if they had a lot of history surly people would have stumbled on it by now. He heard there was some kind of war and lots of muggles died."So if History is all that why keep it hidden from the rest of the world? I mean you have a lot of history that people are not going to know about. I understand staying hidden during the time of the witch hunts. But why not come out of hiding now. Muggles are not that stupid and paranoid as they use to be and magic could really help those who can't use it. I mean don't you think your kind is being selfish keeping your magic to yourself when you can better the whole world. I mean with muggle science and magic you could cure cancer or feed the world. So why are you still hidden to the world?" David asked saying 'you' since he still thought himself as a normal muggle.

ℐirst 𝒴ear ❶ ℳuggleborn ❶ ℛavenclaw ❶ 𝒞haser Sitting comfortably near the front of the room so he could get the best opportunity for learning, Alex took a pen and a piece of parchment from his pack. No matter how much he tried, he couldn't quite grasp the action of using a quill and ink. It certainly looked cool, but it was just so simple to use a ballpoint. Anyway, Alex figured it didn't matter what sort of writing utensil he used, as long as it got the job done. As each of the students spoke, Alex copied their answers in shorthand, abbreviating as much as possible like he'd read in a few self-help booklets. Though he was dying to give his own answer, he decided to remain silent. Besides, the other students had already said what he would have. Next time, he thought.
An eyebrow arched when a white-haired gryffindor spoke up. He'd brought up the point that muggles were being kept from magic, and that this was slightly unfair. Having come from the muggle world, Alex couldn't help but agree. Of course, just like he had been, muggles had a tendency to be afraid of things they didn't understand. Magic might create a panic in their world. This brought forward a movie that Alex remembered watching a long time ago... X-Men? The movie was about these mutants that had extraordinary powers, and the world had been so afraid of them as to pass laws to keep them out of schools, and to segregate them as much as possible. This made Alex think of the other lessons of muggle history, like fascist Germany and modern racism.
Glancing back at the Gryffindor, Alex spoke softly. "Do you really think that muggles would accept magic whole-heartedly into their world? Don't you think they might fear us or think that we are oddly elitist?" Wanting to understand, the young ravenclaw awaited a rebuttal.
