If you know a little bit about computer hardware, and are careful to match the clock speeds, voltages and pin counts, you can shave a 100-200 off the price tag by building your own computer. Your family will think you're a wizard after that. Which is good and bad. You have to service the thing yourself too, though, and that's a big old can of worms.
