Excel Saga the Anime is absolutely NOTHING like the manga.
They take the characters and premise of the story and warp it into a new stereotypical anime genre. From High School Romance, to War based, to Animal-lovers...
While the main charcter Excel seems to be on crack, while her coworker has some random diesease where she spits blood all the time... all while they keep this little dog around from extra food supply since pay is really shitty when you work for a company sought on world domination.
Its INSANE. Every episode that have the authors permission played in the beginning. Its THAT different.

I recently realized this while trying to explain a few anime to my brother: Actually talking through the plots and concepts in various anime makes them seem very strange.
Pokemon: these strange little creatures, which are incredibly more powerful than their commanders (whom they obey for almost no reason), battle and are kept in tiny metallic spheres when not being used. Plus, they EVOLVE!
Bleach: These dead people with ridiculous swords ferry souls to the afterlife and fight souls they forgot to ferry over.
Naruto: Ninja, whom are nothing like their real-world counterparts, use magic.
Dragon Ball Z: Aliens that look just like humans have super strength and fight off evil guys who want to rule/destroy the earth.
Death Note: Super intelligent people get the power to kill anybody by knowing their name and face, while other super intelligent people try to capture said super intelligent people.
Gundam: Giant robots in space!

gundam is probably the easiest to explain.
then there's
Fullmetal alchemist: two brothers with physical disabilities traverse an alternate reality in order to find the Philosopher's stone.
Outlaw star: a man with shady ethics stumbles upon a naked woman in a briefcase who turns out to be the only one that can drive a fabled ship with arms.
those are the only ones i can think of that you left out....hehe, funny how it's just two.

I stole it from a display at a benefactors party for the Theatre company I belong to and wore it around the entire night.
I looked spiffy. I think I was the reason all the old men where making out donation checks all night.

Awww... Thanks. Its really not my best picture... But it has a me with a top hat. So... that makes it awesome, despite not looking too well.
I look quite pale... I have naturally dark lips and rosy cheeks...
I was tired from wearing heels for over 13 hours. XD
