Lupus growled when he heard the cry for help. Although he was looking to join the dmonic 'culture', he couldn't shrug off his conscience. He ran in the direction of the scream, shifting back to human form when he got close. He brandished his blade bracers and reached in his pocket, coating the edges with quicksilver. It wasn't as effective as normal silver on undead, but he didn't have silver cauntlets, and there were too many ghosts to pull his silver dagger on. He rushed in, slicing in an X shape, destroying one of the ghosts instantly. "You've got some guts, rushin' into the Woods alone!" He yelled to Ean.

"So I'm beginning to realize." Ean replied with a chuckle. A ghost attacked Ean, but quickly dissipated when Ean knocked its fist aside and stabbed the ghost. "I'm suprised you came to help." Ean said. Another swing, Ean couldn't counter but he managed to knock the attack aside.

Lupus laughed mirthlessly as he sliced another ghost down. "If you were a petty human, I'da let you die!" Lupus informed Ean. He reached into a pocket and pulled out a small gem. He concentrated, and the jewel absorbed two of the ghosts with a wail like a banshee. He decided to let ean handle the last one or two ghosts.

"That's assuring." Ean said, "I guess i should say thanks." Ean finally went on the offensive. With a jump at the second to last ghost, he stabbed it in what would be a throat. The haze that it was, thinned into the same mist that surrounded them. The final ghost stood at attention and saluted the two, as if honoring before fading into nothing. Ean sheathed his sword, "What is this place exactly." Ean said looking at the foggy mist that was everywhere.

"The Damned Woods. It's an aptly named place." Lupus answered. He stretched and began to head in the direction he had caught the scent of human masses in the distance. "Let's get the hell out of here."

Ean jogged a little to catch up with lupus before asking, "Out of here, to where exactly?" Ean said getting overly curious.

"Nearest town." Lupus answered, not slowing his pace, especially now that Ean had caught up. If anything he sped up slightly. He sniffed the air lightly. His nose was better than a normal human's in this form, but not as great as his lycan form.

"Ah." Ean simply replied, keeping pace with the now quickening Lupus. Ean looked around the woods. All that could be seen were trees and fog. Ean had the feeling that they were being watched, and for the first time was almost scared of the woods. But the straw that broke the camel's back was the sight of a zombie lurching aimlessly in the next row of trees. Ean's hair stood on end and he jumped away from it.

Lupus spotted the zombie out of the corner of his eye. He sighed when Ean jumped back. He reached into his pack. He finally found what he was looking for. He tossed a necklace with a faintly glowing cross pendant on it. "Here, it keeps away the undead." LUpus told him. He had never used it. Undead, other than lich and vampires, posed no threat to him. And most vampires were clever enough to get around the talisman. Most Lich were magical enough to dispel it.

Ean wrestled with the talisman and finally put it on his neck, and sighed when the zombie began to lurch away from him. He caught back up with lupus and asked, "Where'd you get this, anyway?"

Lupus continued walking for a short while. It didn't seem like he was going to answer. But it appeared he only needed time to think about it. "I believe it was from a vampire, actually. The guy had stolen it as a trophy of killing an archbishop of some place. But the novelty had worn off, so he gave it to me. I guess he figured I'd need it more than him." He sniffed the air again. "We're almost there."

"Oh..." Ean said, slightly frightened by the fact that it had been stolen from a dead body. He kept walking for a few minutes until the smell of fireplaces filled the air. The sight of lampposts peeked through the trees."There it is! Look!" Ean said exasperatedly pointing forward.

Lupus shook his head. "No those are just Will-o'-the-wisps" He told the laguz before veering slightly. "Avoid them, the talisman offers no protection from forest spirits. Even ones tainted as those. There's our destination." He nodded to a dark gap in the trees up ahead.

"Will do." Ean said gazing at the lights of the spirits ahead. They looked so peaceful, he marveled at how they could possibly be dangerous. He shifted his sight to the gap in the trees. "Why aren't there any lights?" He whispered to himself. He followed Lupus into the city.

Durithill yelped in surprise when he suddenly appeared inside his old hand and landed on top of a pile of books perched precariously on top of a table. Too precariously, as it turned out, and the pile collapsed, talking Durithill with it and adding to the mess of objects already littering the floor. The moment they had entered, candles around the room suddenly burst into flame to light it. It looked to be living a living room, except that the whole thing was no much larger than the hotel room they had just occupied. Nearly every surface, from the small bed in the corner to the table Durithill had just landed on and the book shelf in the other corner, was covered in a multitude of books and a layer of dust. Littered amond the various books were scrolls written in various language, some unfinished. "Everyone alright?" Durithill asked, opening the front door with his teeth to let some fresh air in.
