Amelia Cross “I think I would much rather it just works.” Amelia answered with a small grin. “You know, finally have my arm looked at and all.” Instead of going to throw the metaphorical switch right away she hesitated for a few seconds. “Well…fingers crossed.” She added saying a silent prayer that the thing would work. She typed in a code to the computer they had been running on back power, hit enter and took a step back. After a brief moment while the computer processed the command the generators started up and the main lights flickered on. There was a collective sigh of relief that they had gotten that far, though they weren’t quite ready to celebrate yet. Maybe if everything remained stable for a few hours. Without Sybil they would need to work out shifts for people to monitor the plant as well, but something more important was on her mind. “There’s been some….rumours I guess you would say. I don’t know if they are true, but Adrian…he didn’t want a monument. I offered to have one built, but he told me not too.”

"I know. He wasn't the kind of guy to want a monument but the rest of the council doesn't seem to care about what he wanted. The monument with either signify that people should gather together to defy tyrants, or people should bow to a single man to do so. They want a monument to him because we turned to one man." Will explained as he waited for something to go wrong with the power plant. He had faith in Amelia but found it safest to always assume something would go wrong. "I'll probably win in the end. Amanda is beginning to agree with me, along with Anna and Nathan. With their votes I'll be able to determine what monument we build."

Amelia Cross “I think they just mean to honour their fallen leader, not signify that people should bow down to a single man, but I’m… glad. Glad that you’re fighting for what he wanted. You’re a good friend Will. Besides he wouldn’t have gotten very far by himself. A lot more people than just Adrian gave up their lives to make this happen.” Not that she was sure how much her opinion counted outside of technical issues, but she was relieved to hear there was a good possibility the right monument would be built. The one Adrian would want. “Everything seems to be fine…I suppose we’ll find out once people actually start using the power. We’ll have to set up some shifts and select people to monitor the plant 24/7 though. Have you thought about Adrian’s funeral?”

"I know that's what they want, but that's not how history will see it. " Will responded quietly. He then listened to Amelia speak for a few moments before she roughly brought up Adrian's funeral. "Smooth transition. We can arrange for 24/7 maintenance crews. It will be good to have more jobs for people." Will paused and then continued about Adrian this time. "We've set it for tomorrow. It is to be small, most of the world doesn't really know how much he did for them. We don't want them crowding. The council wants to make his funeral the grand opening for an entire graveyard in his name. Stormheart Cemetery. That was his last name... Stormheart."

Amelia Cross “Keep them out of trouble.” Amelia agreed, though she could feel her cheeks growing warm at yet again saying something stupid. Really though, how else was she supposed to bring up Adrian’s funeral? “That’s…strangely fitting. His last name I mean, not the graveyard. I don’t like that idea. It feels like they are saying he killed all those people.” Maybe that was what they were saying. In a way they would not be wrong, but that had been the price of freedom. He was a hero, not a murderer, the deaths an unfortunate price to pay. Sure things were a little rough now, but Amelia fully believed things would be much better once they were established and everything was up and running. “So, who is invited then?” Mostly she wanted to know if she was invited, but avoided asking directly.

"They mean it more to be the monument I wont let them have in the new Town Square where the power fell. To show the people who died in support of him, who died for him, and the people he died for." It was hard to explain, it hadn't been Will's idea nor was it his favorite but if it satisfied the resistance he would support it. "Everyone on the council and in the resistance. So small is relative but how can we allow a small part of the resistance and not anyone else who fought for him? Parts of the city who weren't involved won't be allowed into the cemetery. You can go though. I know that's what your thinking. You are as much one of us as he was, just in a different way. "

Amelia Cross “I guess so…” Amelia was a little unconvinced about the idea, but she trusted Will to know what Adrian would have wanted. If he would have been fine with this in lieu of the monument he didn’t want then she wouldn’t say anything more on the topic. Really her whole life had become about what he would have wanted and doing everything she could to fulfill those wishes. The price of their parting and the guilt eating her up on the inside. “I’m glad you think so, though I’m not certain how many people would agree with you. I’ve always been on the fringe I guess. Still, I’m relieved that I can go. Did you want to give me a ride back into the city? I suppose we should report to the rest of the council about the power plant and I’d like to look into if I can finally have my arm looked at.”

"Sure." Will said simply before walking to his truck. It was the same truck he had put Adrian in the back of. When times were simpler, he planned to destroy it. Too many bad memories in the truck. "I can report to the council while you get your arm looked at again." Will suggested as he unlocked the truck and got inside.

Amelia Cross “Thank you.” Amelia told him as she followed him towards the truck. Honestly she couldn’t drive, a fact that she’d been trying to cover up for the last few days. Doubly embarrassing since she could take apart the vehicle and put it back together again, given the right equipment, but she had never had an occasion to actually manually drive a vehicle. Once the doors were unlocked she pulled herself into the passenger side of the truck. “Yeah, if you don’t think you’ll need me. I would recommend returning power to the city in sections over a few days and monitor how well the generators handle the increasing load. In the meantime we can start working on getting another service online. I’m assuming water and sewage unless the council has another priority.” There was a small pause before she asked him a question. “How are you doing Will? Really?” She knew he didn’t really want any of this. All the rebuilding and the decisions and the work, a fact that she had kept to herself. However they had had little time alone together since that conversation took place.

"The council delegated groups to work on water and sewage two days ago. They should be up and running by tomorrow or the next day. The resistance had thousands and so the council now has thousands. Everyone was skilled in some way and fortunately those skills are being used for more than stopping a tyrannical machine." Will explained as he got into the truck. The Council had been busy. He started the engine and began to pull away before he answered her next question. "I'm better. It was hard, the first day. So much uncertainty and anger. So much loss. But it's gotten better."

Amelia Cross “Oh….that’s great. So what’s next then?” Amelia asked. The news that they had already started on the water and sewage had caught her completely off guard. In a strange way she was even a little upset she hadn’t even been informed. In a new world trying to limit itself on machine dependence her usefulness had become a lot more limited. “That’s good to hear. I suppose it’ll help once the funeral is over as over as well. You know, say goodbye and all of that. And, if the power remains stable a lot of things should get a lot easier.” She added the last bit in an attempt to make things a little less grim. Amelia had already said goodbye to Adrian, literally, the only one who had been able to do so. Despite that she still wanted to attend.

"Let's take one thing at a time, worry about the funeral now and we'll forget what we need to do. Trust me, happened all the time. Adrian planed so far ahead he always forgot the first step. We had a scribe to take notes the whole time." Will said trying to keep things light just as Amelia had.

Amelia Cross “If that’s what you think is best.” Amelia answered slowly, sucking some of the lightness out of their conversation. She didn’t like being idle. Even in her former life when she wasn’t working for Sybil she had been working on her little side projects. “I mean, all I have to do for the funeral is show up right? I could start working on something once the doctors are done with me.” She added afterwards.

"All anyone is doing is showing up. No one knows what to say. We'll gather around the grave, everyone will get a little moment to see him, and then we'll move on. If anyone wants to talk they'll talk with there friends after while we're in the cemetery."

Amelia Cross “See his grave you mean?” Amelia questioned. Based on how Will had draped his coat over Adrian’s body when he had brought him back to the truck he wasn’t in a condition to be looked upon. “It seems….wrong that no one is going to say anything. Not that I would know what to say either.” She hastily added. If his closest friends didn’t know what to say and felt it better to just have a moment of silence, than who was she to argue? “And what about you Will? Do you want to talk about him?”
