((It's a little confusing. About how his corpse could be within the gateway U: I'm about to explain that in my next post))

Duriono stepped past Aleta, a determined glare in his eyes.
"Does it make you two angry? Knowing that your allies died fighting a battle they didn't belong in? They fought for you gatekeeper... they trusted you gatekeeper... you let them die! Every single one of these traitors to humanity!" Zephyr shouted, lifting his blade and pointing it straight at Duriono. "They fought against evolution, they fought against good, they fought-"
"Enough of that bull #$#@!" Duriono shouted, stepping forward even further. "You say this is evolution? You say this is good? You don't @#$#ing care about the sake of humanity! Your building a kingdom based upon war, and you place yourself at the top! Playing god, you try to decide what's right and wrong. But the truth is that you're nothing! Just a poor selfish b*****d who took a loss and turned it into an obsession!" He reached his hand out and pulled out Mary's katana from the ground nearby. Clutching it tightly with his dominant right hand.
"Playing god? You mortal fool... I may have said this before.. but you see.. I don't play god.. I am a god, I am what's right for this damned world, and I am the messiah! Further more, your hat is stupid!" He let out a psychotic cackle while his eyes lost their irises.
"Now die for the good of humanity!" He dashed at Duriono, swinging with insane speed once within blade range, Duriono back stepped and leapped over Duriono, landing behind him and struck back. Zephyr slammed his fist into the ground, resulting in a pillar of light that shot Duriono up into the air.

Aleta didn't like being ignored, "Hey, I'm talking to you, moron!" She smacked him on the back of the head with the flat of her blade. She was also interested in how he used light, I should learn how to do that...

((Hm... the Director in Maximum Ride reminds me of Zephyr, who reminds me of Hitler. :V))

((Yet another book I should read =o=))

"Wouldn't you rather to die by the hand of the man who's been tracking you for so long?"
Zephyr raised an arm to deflect the blade, the light quickly turning into demonic flames, he blasted himself away from Aleta, as Duriono landed, he began to attack him further, he nimbly dodged every attack, parring a key strike and burst through with his fist. While it did connect, it had little effect on him. Only causing him to grunt, Zephyr grabbed Duriono's neck and tossed him into the ground beside them.
"I told you pride was a strong thing gatekeeper! And this realm amplifies the emotions of those close in contact with the gatekeeper isn't that true?" He kicked him aside, over to Brig who was laying limp on the ground. He got to his feet slowly and growlled at Zephyr.
"It was rather simplistic of course! With you nowhere around the gateway, who knows who would just wander in and fall off! I met with a soul, a demons soul.. His name was Heo, if I remember correctly, he knew all of the ins and outs of this world and offered to take me out if I gave him a second shot at you! He failed miserably, but I was planning to kill him off anyway!" He explained, launching at Duriono once again. They clashed blades once again, Zephyr slowly overpowering the demon.

((Alright, this is kinda where the whole good, bad, nuetral endings cut in. Which one's it gon' be? Which one's it gon' be!?))
PostPosted: Wed Oct 13, 2010 5:01 pm

((Read the manga version, I find it more enjoyable than the books because Max's sarcastic inner monlouge can get annoying at times. But still, strong characters, interesting storyline, action, and humor... I would say its worth reading. 3nodding ))

"No... I would rather kill you first!" Aleta was frustrated. Rafeal approached, his bow was drawn, but the arrow was aimed at the ground.

"This is Duri's fight. Let him fight it, save your strenght for later." He moved his bow, "If he is about to loose... all I have to do is shoot him... I think... I don't know if he has some immortal thing going on or what." He shrugged.

Aleta's muscles loosend slightly. He's right... She was thankful Rafeal was there to be her voice of reason. She nodded, and sheathed her blade and watched the battle.

It reminded Aleta of watching a past fight from behind a wall, when Zethriel almost killed him. She hated standing there, doing nothing, possibly watching someone die.

((I kinda thought everyone would go their separate ways, afew times now, that way everyone could wrap up their stories and conjoin them at the end /: ))
Zephyr broke through Mary's blade, shattering it in two. The shards of which landed behind him. He cut deep into Duriono, a severe slit which would take more time to heal. He winced, refusing to scream and stumbled backwards. The opposition stabbed him straight through, causing Duriono to cough up blood, a sly grin spawnned on Zephyr's face. Duriono shoved himself off of the blade and slid back, holding the wound.
"Your all alone gatekeeper! You may have gainned the upperhand on me afew moments ago, but I doubt that's about to happen anytime soon! No more miracles!" He stepped forward slowly.
He panted heavilly, his eyes scanning the landscape and the position of the mercenaries, their distance from eachother and himself. He tossed a wild card onto the table; clapping his hands slowly, and held them at his sides casually.
"Zephyr, pride is a powerful thing.. That's true... but there are several things stronger than a man's ambition..." He said slowly, in a rather low tone. He began to unwrap the bandages around his hands, revealling several demonic markings on his body, small demonic flames sparked around his wrists.
"What are you saying gatekeeper? You can't possibly perform any of that alchemy.. your hat's gone. Your far too weak to do anything to me even without your restraints!" He scoffed in return.
"But pride isn't the only thing that can make things happen.. I should know.. Hatred is a very strong thing.. so is happyness, sorrow, pain and every other emotion under our skins.. This world.. is owned by me. This plane is manipulated at my will.. You only could do all of this due to having been in contact with the emotions I sealled away for so long..." A smirk crossed his lips as well. He was bluffing, he wasn't sure if this would work.
"If I want a firehydrant, bam. It pops up, If I want a ladder, boom.. It appears. The thing is, that I can only manipulate the landscape, hold off and bring up souls that are lost in this world inbetween worlds and revive the dead who's bodies and souls are both lost within this place."
Zephyr's eyes suddenly shot wide open. He lunged at Duriono, who quickly stampped his hand into the ground. He was bluffing about the gatekeeper having the ability to revive souls lost in the place, he wasn't sure if he had the ability to do so. He could be a very good actor when needed to be.

Surprisingly, a ballad of dancing lights filled the area. The bodies of the fallen sparked with a majestic light, as they slowly stood up. Not like limp zombie puppets, but like mortal men.
"And lastly.." Duriono caught Zephyr's sword. Several weapons spawning on his back, duplicates of his friend's weapons. Even June's Axe and Aleta's double blade.
"My hat is the @##$." He raised another hand as Mary tossed over the article, they then took their fighting stances.
There was an intense pain in Duriono's head for a moment. He felt like he had just lost something.. unsure of what it was however. He didn't wince, and held his ground. A demonic aura surrounding each of the mercenaries. Hakura, and Sonia also stood in the area. Sonia in her actual form, not the split form she once was. Salem, Kagura and Lucifer landed beside them. The giant creature falling behind them.
Epic.
((Insert Show me how to live~ when Duriono starts his little bluff
You guys got the neutral ending! =D Its not the happilly ever after story, but it's still pretty good!))

"So, how are we gonna do this boss?" Brig asked, standing up in his demonic form.
"You don't do anything besides play the supportive role, when I give the signal you guys take over to let me heal. I don't want you guys to die on me again." He ordered, cracking his knuckles.
There was a ring around Mary's finger. She held Bishop close to her for a long moment before shoving him away.
"Did I miss something?" Duriono looked over at them.
"We'll fill you in later.." Bishop said, stretching his back out.
Duriono nodded, then grinned. He thought since the mercs were revived, June must have been as well! He'd wrap it up quickly and go find her.
"Lets go Zephyr!" He lunged at him, fists at the ready.
Duriono's fighting style changed drasticly without his bandages. His movement was swifter, he also could swap weapons inbetween attacks. This was probably mightier than his awakened state. However it shortened his lifespan every time he used it.

((*lightbulb* writer's block is ova!))

Barbarus had by this point lef the battle to Zephyr alone. He had more pressing matters to attend to; mainly, taking care the pesky angel.

June found herself wavering from conciousness and unconciousness for a while, the once black scenery now taking on a cold and earthly colour. Finally stabilizing herself, the cold aire of the room finally washed over her, sending chills down her spine. Sitting up slowly, her body ached with every inch of movement. She looked around.
The room was an almost castle-like decor, the walls made of stone and a wooden floor, the windows old and nearly opaque.
"Where am I?"June was surprised as her voice softly echoed around the room. An intense ringing took over her senses, and it wasn't until a firm hand yanked her up by the hair that she realized she was in a nightmare.
The ringing abruptly stopped as she yelped weakly, a pair of cold lips pressed to her ear as a harsh voice whispered to her.
"Welcome to hell."
June's eyes narrowed. Before she could do anything against her aggressor, the female had let go and allowed June to fall to the ground. It was then that June realized how heavy her body felt. She didn't want to move.
A silver boot clacked against the wood next to her face, the strands of hair that had fallen out of place minutely limiting her vision. The boot left, the powerful footsteps moving to cease a foot or two from June's position. She looked up weakly, her indigo eyes quickly met with piercingly cold violet ones.
No one would have been able to tell the difference between their eye colors, but they knew themselves who was who. The ice cold eyes that pierced through hers were none other than Alice's.
She felt her heart sink and her body freeze in place as if under a spell.
Alice's expression was stiff and wicked, her hair smoothly cascading behind her; Not a hair out of place.
June remained still on the ground, her own hair slightly frayed from the sudden drop to the solid ground, her expression mixed in confusion and fear...and understading.
Alice stepped forward once more, taking June's arm and swinging her against the wall. June clenched her jaw, refusing to grant Alice the pleasure of hearing her in pain. She knew Alice wanted that. Alice always wanted that. Power, strength, being the best but never alone.
The sad reality was, that she was always alone.
Since Alice was born she was alone, taught by her parents that that was the best path for a demon. she didn't like that. She wanted there to be people around her.
It wasn't until later on that she realized she only wanted them around so she could compare herself to them; always prove to them and herself that she was the strongest, the most powerful, the one that no one could defeat.
Then there was June.
June had lived a parallel life. From birth she was taught to grow in strength; she didn't like being alone. She felt she would die alone. It was her fear. The thing she feared most and never wanted to test the verity of. she kept people around, but never told them the truth. She was always afraid that telling them the truth would chase people away.
That's why her lives were secrets.
But reality folded.
Alice was taken from her life and into that of June's through Barbarus, the man who'd experimented with soul and reality manipulation. He was told he was mad for doing such things. He wasn't mad, he thought. He was innovative. And what he'd done had proved to end in his favor.
He found Alice.
The mad man had found Alice and used her to his advantage.
Of course, that's no the whole story, either.
Alice knew very well upon her appearence that she would encounter June, and was also well aware of her life. Both knew.
There's a little key to how this was possible, that the moment Alice and June existed on the same plane they knew eachother.
They were eachother.
June was cursed to live seven lives. The one she lived now was the fifth. Alice was the third.
But their first meeting meant the end to both of them.
Alice promised to herself that she would kill June, despite them being one in the same.
She was mad herself.
If Alice couldn't live that life that June had, with people around and no one who would be scared of you, then neither could June. Alice detested living the pained life while later on she could. She wanted that life now, but that was impossible.
So would be the end of the fifth.

Alice firmly gripped June's throat, her nails digging into the warm flesh that drastically contrasted the freezing blood that filled Alcie's veins. June clawed at Alice's arm, trying to get her to let go despite what strength she had quickly diminishing.
Alice's face reamined expressionless, the only emotion bleeding through her eyes, the vision of a cold and heartless fulfillment.
Alice's rosy lip twitched a little.
"Why don't you scream?" The words echoed through the room like ice, freezing breath brushing accross June's face.
June said nothing in response. There was nothing to say, much less nothing she could say due to the strangling.
Then something flashed into June's mind.

The group was continuing up the mountain, the footsteps and crackling earth beneath them the only true sounds. June looked around at everyone, despite her being hauled over Duriono's shoulder. By this time she'd given up on trying to get him to put her down.
She sighed.
What would happen next would change everything, and the little slivers of thoughts that slipped into her head caused her to believe that what would come next wouldn't necessarily be a happy thing.
Finally she decided to speak up.
"Hey," She said, a little smile at last creeping to her face "Whatever happens, you better promise to stay alive, okay? We'll meet eachother again!" She said, her voice as happy as she could muster.
It was at that point that she pulled little white ribbons from her pocket and handed them out for everyone to tie around their wrists.
"We'll all be fine!" She reassured them.

June never promised it.
She asked them to.

The grip on her neck tightened, her breathing completely cut off and her mouth agape in a feeble attempt to gasp for air. Her body began to feel cold, her arms falling to her sides almost completely limp.
But June refused to give up without a fight. She may not have promised them, but she wouldn't abandon them.
Alice caught sight of the glimmering ring on June's hand, her eyes narrowing.
"you...little...you seduced my pet!" She growled, the first ring of emotion finally engulfing her previously livid face. Her hand twiched as she tried to tighten her grip even further.
What light came in from the windows was quickly dimmed then, the glass stained with splattered blood.

He jabbed straight at Zephyr, he moved his head to avoid and countered with a fierce slash at Duriono's side, a broadsword appeared in his hand, blocking the blade, he drove his knee into Zephyr's side before he could attack once again. Following up with Bishop's gunblade and Mary's katana in hand, Zephyr leapped over Duriono and slashed the back of his knee, he fell down for a moment, pointing the blade behind him and shot Zephyr in the back before spiralling back up and thrusted forward. Catching his side, he grabbed the blade and tugged Duri towards him. The double blade replaced the gunblade as he released the katana, having it vanish so he could attack with a flurry of quick strikes, Zephyr avoiding the majority, but still got caught by the second blade. He slid back and launched a volley of light arrows at him. He deflected them with a pair of horn shaped blades, like those found on Brig's back.
"Gunmetals!" He shouted, deflecting them and digging in with the axe, spinning it above his head and slashed at his side Zephyr leapped back and shot at Duri's shoulders, he swiftly dodged and used the axe head to vault himself forward towards him. Seeing this, Zephyr raised his hand to the sky a pillar of light launching up at him. As a counter Duriono tugged out Key's chakrams, twirlling them at such velocity that they sliced through the cloud.
"Yeah boss!?" Everyone responded.
"Final Strike!" Duriono shouted once again, plunging down with Hakura's falchions, then backed up as everyone took their positions by his side.
Zephyr wasn't feeling very confident now, however this didn't show on his expression as Kagura and Salem launched at them. The others dashing at them in similar fashons.
First, Salem thrusted straight forward, attracting the bulk of the attention as Zephyr dodged him. Allowing Kagura to airlift him with a gust of air, juggling him there with a volley of bullets from the shot guns hidden in her scythes. The other mercenaries did the same, forming a complete circle around him.
"Let me hear you scream b*****d!" Duriono shouted, watching him writhe in pain. With a snap of his fingers, Lucifer and Surina slipped into the center of the circle, the fire ceasing as Lucifer leapped up and planted a swift arial assault, sending him down to Surina where she attempted to slam him with her rather oversized hammer.
"Enough!" Zephyr snapped a finger, shooting everyone off in random directions. "You've had your little paradise! Filled with pointless wars and traitors!" He respawned his wings and flew over head, the mercs regainned their stances, preparing for their next move.

((>_> I think I beat my record~))

she looked down, her hand hovering shakily over the shining metal that now pierced her stomach. Little studders escaped her lips as she continued to stare at the weapon in shock, her twin's hand finally letting go of the blue hilt that curved slightly before joining the silver blade that was now stained red.
Hands released, and June was dropped to the ground again, unmoving.
Blood dripped on the hardwood floor, the chocolate now stained with red.
The blood that had splattered on the window behind her had dripped, the amount on each pane thinning as droplets made it to the sil contentedly. The now thinned layer caused the light cast down on them to be red, their hair reflecting the same color.
Alice stepped back, her hand twitching, the muscles sore from the tight grip kept on the other's neck.
The room was silent other than the shift of metal and the slight gasping from the female as she looked at the wound.
She was still in shock.
It was unexpected. Strangling; that would be the simplest and easiest method for her death, no weapons.
How there was this.
A new plan would have to be thought up quickly.
June was already in her hell, and she wouldn't be there for much longer.
Hell.
Once one's in hell, the only way out is death or grace, and, unfortunately, June ran out of her grace a long time ago.
Her heart pounded, threatening to cease operation any second.

A little shadow crossed paths with the light, casting a long shadow over the two. A little bunny hopped by outside. The innocent bunny, completely oblivious to the event that just occurred in the room. In that cold stone room of the unwelcoming stone house with no doors.

The second fell to her knees, staring at her twin with blurring vision.
Tears streamed down her face, her body trembling at the fact that she'd finally done what she set out to do.
But she didn't feel fulfilled.

A few minutes passed in silence before she fell to her side, her own blood pooling and mixing with that of June's.

((What record?))
Zephyr landed just infront of Duriono, who was standing tall and confident.
"What is it that drives you to such great lengths just to stop me!? You said you cared about your human friends.. but exactly what stops you all from seeing what's truely right for you?"
He panted heavilly, Duriono in a similar condition.
Key was about to speak up, but Duri dismissed him.
"Maybe I'll tell you as your drawing your last breath!" He sneered, Zephyr was unamused, leapping backwards into the air and sucked out most of the light in the area along with it. Leaving Duriono standing in the darkness, a fitting end for a long and drawn out battle.
This was a cowardly tactic and he knew it, a last ditch attempt to win this fight. The light slowly vanished and Duriono slowly began to weaken, Zephyr appeared infront of him. Pointing his blade at Duriono once again,
"Enough talk! I'll finish you here and now!" he ran at him and slashed an easilly parried slash. Duriono took the bait, clashing with him. Thats when he began to weaken, Zephyr slowly overpowered him. What the hell!? Duri's eyes went wide for amoment, quickly narrowing once again as he poured all of his power into this clash. His own katana the weapon of choice this time around. Zephyr was already stronger than Duriono, but now the difference was much larger. Zephyr broke through the guard and thrusted at Duriono's head. Stopping just before it made contact..
There was a curved sword in his heart. Kagura stepped into the small area. Zephyr staggered, falling to one knee.
"You can't force change upon people.. you only end up with anarchy and violence." She stated, lifting Zephyr's dying head.
"You tried to change me for your little goal.. and you only corrupted my mother and dropped a hatred within me. A lust for blood.." She continued. Duriono stood upright, the light slowly returning as a large door appeared behind them. The others standing just infront of it.
"The man you are now was created through pain.." Duriono took over, looking at Kagura for a moment, then at Zephyr. "Something born out of pain will gain no allies... only enemies.. I had alot of pain at one time.. we all have, we tend to shut out that emotion but thats not right either.." He took hold of the blade with Kagura, "You managed to take away everything I loved, but in the end it came back and bit you in the a**."
"...I'm a man born out of pain? True, that is true my adversary...." Zephyr said in a ghastly tone, he was slowly dying, painfully as well. "But just because something's born out of hatred.. doesn't mean nothing good will come out of it... I have an entire army... they will crumble without me.. but they will regroup, become stronger and carry out my will.. So I will let you have your false paradise for now.. and you shall all rot in it! Dying like I am now!" He rose his voice, lunging a hand out at Kagura and grasped her neck. Dying on the spot before he could actually do anything.
.....

Kagura collapsed into Duriono, who carried her. Both injured by their own little struggles, they walked through the door.
"C'mon guys.. it's not over yet.. lets go find June...." He placed one foot through.
"Aleta... I'm afraid I can't fight anymore... I'm kinda collapsing under my own weight now... I apologize..." And with that, they walked through the gate, into one of the deeper realms. He was pretty sure Barbarus carried June off this way..

((Good ending: Duriono defeats Zephyr, ressurects everyone and June, keeps his alchemy, and defeats Barbarus.
Normal ending: Duriono defeats Zephyr barely, ressurects everyone except June, looses his alchemy; Barbarus escapes.
Bad ending: Duriono kills Zephyr and dies himself, ressurects everyone, looses alchemy, dies not knowing if June was safe or not
Normal leads up to Armarus >_>))

((>_> record of my longest post. biggrin ))

Barbarus frowned, his grey eyes taking in the crimson scene of the two in the room with him.
Both the lioness and the ice princess seem to have lost.
So there's the end of the third and the fifth.

Light piano music began playing in the background of the entirety of the demon plane. Barbarus by this point had used his trump card completely, and knew he had to figure something else out of Zephyr didn't complete his own task. Sighing, he stepped back into the shadows and disappeared.

((=o= actually no... I'm pretty sure there was like one longer post back in the late tavern))
Hakura and Salem ran up next to Duriono. Taking Kagura from his grasp seeing as he was about to collapse. Brig ran along and supported him with his shoulder. The blades protruding from his back sunk back in as he returned to his usual self.
"C'mon Boss.. Just a little bit further..." He said, as they entered into the demonic plane (Or plain, it doesn't really matter. I perfer Plane though.)
The other mercenaries stood by the gate doors, holding them open.
Duriono got to his own feet, shoving away from Brig as Bishop ran up close by, weapons ready. He placed a hand on the doorknob, slowly opening the doors. Interrupting by blood splurting from his mouth, this kind of damage would take weeks to heal even for a demon. He was tugged away from the door by Key. Brig and Bishop then proceeded to open the door.
