Now where did I put that wand?
Grayson looked up from his book as he noticed the students coming in. He didn't know how long he had been sitting reading, but the effect was always the same. Usually it would end with him being confused about what was going on, but today was different. He was supposed to be teaching the class, and as usual, it left him a bit awkward as to how to go about it. He however decided to go about doing it the simple way.
"Hello, class, and welcome to History of Magic. I am your professor, Grayson Powell. In this class, there is no wandwork, since magic doesn't help you to learn about history. Therefore, your wands will need to be put away." He stood, taking his feet from off the desk and faced the children directly. "History is a collection of events, as I'm sure you are all well aware of. However, these events help to shape the world around us. If not for the witch burnings of the sixteen hundreds, we would not have the Statue of Secrecy. If not for the crises of the last century, we would not have cooperation of all magical folk." He glanced around the class, letting his gaze fall over each of the students. "Now, can someone tell me, besides what I have stated, why history needs to be learned?"

No introductions!
Anastasia listened as the professor began his mini-lecture. No wandwork, Professor Powell-- that sounded a lot like the name of a comicbook character, to be honest. That was so cute and quaint! Not bothering to go for her wand, the Slytherin thought for a moment before standing up with her answer ready.
"History prepares us for the future," she began, mulling over her words as she spoke them. "Learning from our mistakes and not repeating them, improving what has already been done." History was an interesting subject and even if she wasn't so geared towards it, she could appreciate it.

Iñigo Lazaro Albion-Alexandré House: Ravenclaw{|}Seer{|}First Year Iñigo walked into class and sat down next to the blonde girl that he had seen around the school. He shot her a small smile as he sat down, awaiting the teacher to begin his lesson. He had heard the teacher say to put their wands away, which saddened him a bit. He had loved his wand ever since he found out how much power it held. He never wanted to let it go, for more personal reasons of course, but he placed it in his bag towards the top of it, awaiting the rest of teachers introduction.
He listened carefully, picking out words he knew and making sense of them. He knew about the Statute of Secrecy and the witch burnings and the relationship between them. When the question was presented he raised his hand, but the blonde girl had beat him to the direct answer. He would try for something different.
"History needs to be learned...eh...to help us figure out why things are...way they are today. It helps us form our own...point of view of current events," he said, hoping he had gotten his point across, but wasn't too sure if he did or not. What he had said required some tricky wording and he hoped that he had relayed that wording sufficient enough. “There is no death. Only a change of worlds.”

Wren's wand was already put away - he'd taken to stowing it down his sock. It was so long, it was just as long as his eleven-year-old foreleg. In fact, it felt more accurate to call it a branch than a wand in many ways. Storing it was pretty impractical - perhaps he should think about getting a sheath to hook on a belt, or sash to his back like a quiver of arrows.
He couldn't help but let his mind wander - some historical facts and learning things about other countries were very interesting to him, but on the whole, most teachers had always found a way to make fascinating history dead boring in his experience. He wasn't about to get his hopes up just because this would be wizard history. But thank goodness for the allowance of familiars at this school - he was pretty sure every class would definitely be tolerable no matter how scholarly they got just because of that. Since two other people had already answered the question at hand, he started on a game of patty cake with his cat.

▂▂ ▃ ▄ ▅ ▆ ▇ █ Rory raced down the halls and came to a screeching halt outside the door of what she guessed was the correct classroom. For a castle this huge couldn't they have directional cues? Some signs?! Hell, she'd even go for few twinkling arrows if they could! Eh, at least she got there in one piece she supposed. She took a seat somewhere near the back, mostly because she didn't want to sit in the front in fear of actually being called upon, and leaned back in the chair to observe. History? She had drug herself out of bed for History?! Wizarding History but still...history! Ugh...maybe she could catch a few winks while the rest of the class answered questions. Yeah, that sounded great... ==== ☠ ==== I give it all my oxygen So let the flames begin So let the flames begin Oh glory, oh glory ✲Wearing ✲Where am I?~History Class ✲Who's here?~First years ✲A few winks, tha's all I'm askin' fer This is how we'll dance when When they try to take us down This is what will be, oh glory

Location: History class (Thursday: 8:00am to 8:45am) Coming into history Alice was happy that Jasper was looking forward to it. He absolutely loved history so it wouldn’t surprise her if he looked forward to the class every week for the rest of the year. Taking a seat they were told they wouldn’t need their wands. Both of them figured as much besides they hadn’t learned any magic yet anyways. At the first question Alice looked over at Jasper knowing he knew a logical answer. Jasper remained quiet though despite knowing what he could say to their history Professor. “Jazz, say something…” Alice whispered before poking him lightly. “Okay…” he whispered back before raising his hand. “History is important to learn because without looking back on it we wouldn’t know where we came from and how we got to where we are now and we can learn from it.” Jasper finally said something in class. Alice was so proud of him if only he could learn to do that more often. Status: Happy Wearing: Uniform Status: Excited Wearing: Uniform With: Each other… class OOC: ---

f i r s t y e a r || s l y t h e r i n || h a l f b l o o d ________________________________________ History, for some people, was a bore. However, for Yvonne, she was only interested in knowing more about the past, about the power of the wizards who came and went. That, and she had a natural knack for remembering the more gruesome events, such as many infamous witch burnings or the wizarding wars. She didn't know why though. "History-" Yvonne spoke. "-helps use understand the complexity of human nature and the world as a whole. It teaches us the basics of the human drive and greed applicable in the present." A very fancy answer. Well, that's what her dad said, about how history gave him insight about how humans didn't really change over the years. So Yvonne only used that to come up with her own reason as to why study history.

Life's too short to even care at all I'm losing my mind, losing control These fishes in the sea, they're staring at me A wet world aches for the beat of a drum If I could find a way to see this straight I'd run away to some fortune I should have found by now I'm waiting for this cough syrup to go down Eleazar Draven Bradley - Unknown Blood - Ravenclaw - First Year - [feeling: content] [thinking: ...] [with: First Years] [at: History of Magic] Eleazar felt like he was probably going to do very well in this class. He was good with dates and things like that, and history was really interesting to him. Almost exciting. Wow. He really was weird. Seated in the front row, he raised his hand. "History needs to be learned because we need to fully understand the past to go forth into the future. If we don't know where we're coming from we can't possibly know where we're going." He looked positively riveted. If I could find a way to see this straight, I'd run away. Life's too short to even care at all I'm coming up now, out of the blue These zombies in the park, they're looking for my heart A dark world aches for a splash of the sun And so I run now to the things they said Could restore me, restore life the way it should be I'm waiting for this cough syrup to go down One more spoon of cough syrup now

Ani listened carefully to the teachers introduction to this new class. She had always been fascinated by history, but she also thought it was a subject that greatly depended on how good the teacher was. After all, if he just droned on about dates for 2 hours or so it would be dead boring. But she was excited. The professor standing in front of the class didn’t look like that kind of teacher at all. He looked like the kind of person who was so interested in the subject himself, it could only be interesting to listen to him talk about it. She raised her hand to answer his question "History is important because it defines the identity of a nation or a country, and therefore shows us today, if we need to change it in some way. It also preserves the thoughts and opinions of generations before us, that can be very helpful and interesting for us in present time." She leaned forward, placing her arms on the desk in front of her, intent on hearing the other students ideas on the question. Now where did I put that wand?
Grayson walked into the classroom, eyes examining the room as he steps up to the board to write something in large letters before placing the chalk down and standing before the class.
"Hello class, and welcome back. Today, we're going to go over the history of Hogwarts."
"Hogwarts was founded in the ninth to tenth century by its founders, Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw, and Salazar Slytherin. They came together to build the school due to increased suspicion of muggles and magic, and wanted to teach students without fear of prosecution. However, not all of them agreed on which students should be accepted into the school. Salazar Slytherin wanted to only admit purebloods, which was at odds with the other founders. He left the school, and never returned.
"Hogwarts was one of the finest institutes for magical learning by the thirteenth century, and together with Durmstrang and Beauxbatons, started the Triwizard Tournament. However, due to injuries and deaths resulting from the tournament, it was disbanded six centuries after it started. There have been many attempts to reinstate it, but none have been successful.
"More recently, the school has been the site for many different incidents in the last century. It was here that Voldemort learned his magic, and here that Harry Potter defeated him in the Battle for Hogwarts. It has also been the site for the most recent attempt for the Triwizard Tournament, and obviously remains a major school for magic today."
He looked about the class. "Now I know that some of you may have questions, so don't hesitate to ask. I would be happy to answer them to the best of my ability."

Location: History class (Thursday: 8:00am to 8:45am) Jasper led Alice to history excited to really be getting into some of the topics they’d be learning throughout the year. She knew he was excited and she was overly happy for him though it didn’t exactly interest her as much as she knew he would like. Still she remained optimistic for him and for herself. Alice couldn’t remember anything of her past so the least she could do was learn the past to the Wizarding Community she lived in. Taking their seats both took detailed notes as the class went on. It was about Hogwarts so it was hard to be uninterested in that. Alice and Jasper were still very new to this despite knowing about it vaguely beforehand. When Professor Powell asked if they had any questions Jasper wasn’t surprised that Alice raised her hand. “Professor, is it true that all the founders left relics behind in the castle?” she asked curiously. Alice remembered Jasper telling her about it but wondered if it were really true. Status: Happy Wearing: Uniform Status: Happy Wearing: Uniform With: Each other… class OOC: ---

I know we got it good, but they got it made, And their grass is getting greener each day, I know things are looking up, but soon they'll take us down, Before anybody's knowing our name ════════════════════════ Fɪʀsᴛ Yᴇᴀʀ || Sʟʏᴛʜᴇʀɪɴ || Fᴏʀᴍᴇʀ Oʀᴘʜᴀɴ ᴀɴᴅ Sᴛʀᴇᴇᴛ Rᴀᴛ ════════════════════════ Kenneth sat in class already bored. He was tapping his fingers on the table. God he wished he had some comic books he could sneak into class. He perked up when someone mentioned relics. "Relic's is that true, can we see them?" He asked wondering where they are and if he could manage to get his hands on them. ════════════════════════ OOC:

He'd missed most of his classes the first week... gotten lost along the way (or distracted, if he were honest... how could a person hear a portrait talking to them and not stop for a chat, though?) and never made it in time. Ah, well. He'd found the classroom this time, and he was sure that one of his brothers or housemates would let him copy their notes from the first week. Surely first years getting lost wasn't too uncommon, what with the sheer size and nature of the castle and all. And his housemates all seemed very nice; apparently, the house was known for it. He had to say, hearing that, he wasn't at all surprised he'd be placed there. He was a friendly sort of person, after all. Dori sat down and took out his things to take notes, smiling widely. This was sure to be more interesting than a typical history class, right? Magic history couldn't be nearly as dull.
