Mm, I see. Well that is a bit more understandable then; just hope things do work out in the end.
On actual topic, I vaguely remember having a YUU*GI*OU dream last night. I think I was watching it with some friends (might've been this guild), and we were all confused because suddenly Yami no Bakura and Bakura Ryou, then later Yami no Malik and Malik Ishtar, were in separate bodies, and the four of them were traveling like they were all best buds with Yuugi, Jounouchi, Honda, Anzu, and Otogi. No one seemed to notice how weird it was, and the dark halves were pretending to be part of the group, while really planning something evil. XD

I hope so too.

And I love dreams where you don't notice how weird it is - until you wake up. And yea I TOTALLY see YB and YM being best buds with the rest of them, makes total sense ^_~.

That's kinda like my last dream, which means my story btw has separate bodies for Yuugi and his Yami at least. They were definitely separate in the dream, around each other from time to time. Malik wasn't in the dream so dunno if he'll end up in my story even (if he does I'll probably just leave his dark half out, never cared for it much). Jury is still out on YB/Ryou but I'm thinking they'll be separate bodies, I'm pretty sure they were in my dream (separate that is) it just wasn't as plot relevant to have them as such.

But see, in the dream itself it didn't make sense that they had two bodies. Like... I was in the dream watching the show with other people, and all of us were so confused and trying to figure out what we had missed in the plot to lead to separate bodies. XD
But... but I luff Yami no Malik! D: He's deliciously morbid.

Yea, that's true. In mine it kind of did, but my dream was very AU. Which means I'm writing an AU story!!! Augh, such blasphemy against myself, haha. Actually I usually only mind AU when it's improbably scenarios that completely warps the characters and it just becomes, what is the point of even calling this a *insert series* story anyhow? Just change the character names and nobody would ever know. There has to be some draw on the original.

I like him ok, but he just doesn't do it for me. He's kind of a rebel without a cause, I mean he thinks he has one, but really what's the point? He's just not developed enough for me. I need more!!!

Haha, I usually like AU stories. XD But I agree with you; if it's so AU that it doesn't even seem like YUU*GI*OU, then that's a no-go. But if it's like a completely different scenario, but with the same characters, and they actually act the same, then that's awesome, as long as the new world/scenario is written well.
I think that's what so fascinates me about Yami no Malik. It's rare in YUU*GI*OU to have a main character without much to them, like a main cause or anything, but he's interesting because he's just pure darkness... he's crazy and wants to bring pain and death and darkness and he has no actual reason for it, because he's so crazy it's just what he wants. To me that's really interesting; he really is a true psycho. Everyone thinks Yami no Bakura is the psycho, and while he definitely does a few creepy/weird things, he has goals, and he's intelligent and thinks things out. I think Yami no Malik is the truly insane one in the series, and I love him for it. Only time I was disappointed was at the very end when he was losing and tried to start making a deal with Malik to survive... LAME. It would've been so much cooler if he smirked and laughed through the pain, like he did whenever he got hit in his battle with Jounouchi; it would've given a more lasting image to the hero characters of him, and he would've at least brought some of their moral down with him, if he enjoyed his own death.

Yea, I think it's because all my first experiences with AU stories was SO horrible that I think I mentally set myself against them. They were either so out of character and sequence, or just a shrine to an OC (which is pretty much a Mary Sue - the only good Mary Sue is a dead one! razz ). I've read a few I liked, not realizing they were AU until later, and didn't stop liking them because of the realization. Usually I only end up reading them on accident though now (or recommendation), because if the description reads AU I tend to just skip over it rather than take the risk.

Yea, I don't feel I got enough of Yami no Malik to quite feel him as main on his own individual basis, I just had nothing to attach to. I think because he's so simple I blend him in with Malik more often than not. And then yea, the cliched ending is definitely not to his credit, makes him like every other bad guy in the end.

Yes, there were definitely some crappy AU fics out there, but I guess I ran into so many crappy fics in general, I just learned to force them down and continue searching for good ones. Though I do always avoid ones with OCs, except on very rare exceptions. Like one I read about Bakura going crazy and killing everyone... he ended up with a Mary Sue at the end, but she wasn't in the description, and she most certainly wasn't a main character. She only showed up at the end, and hardly said anything at all. It was a well-written fic as well, though a bit ooc. But either way, I enjoyed it enough that I was able to overlook the Mary Sue part, because it wasn't shoved down my throat, and the girl didn't even have a name or a description; she was just a girl who found Bakura all muddy and gross, let him clean up at her place, being surprised to see on the news all the people he had killed and that he was the suspect, then just smirked, the narrator saying that she was always fond of the different ones or something like that. That was all the time in the fic she got.
It makes sense to pair Yami no Malik up with Malik as an individual, because they really are from the same mind, unlike the other dark halves. I guess I was just so fond of how different he was that it was a real shock and disappointment to see him go in such a cliche way.

Yea, there are. I kinda got better at figuring out how to tell fics that aren't crappy, unfortunately that means more good fics are probably more often than not screened out, but I can't miss something if I don't know I'm missing it. I do hate getting invested in stories that then do something to offend me, but with the exception of Mpreg I keep reading if I'm involved (I might start skimming though). I find pregnancy creepy in general, so Mpreg is just not tolerable for me, and stories should ALWAYS warn about it.

And yea, I think that's the main reason I don't love Yami no Malik, I don't see him as a separate character - becaues he's not, he's just a separate personality. However the personalities do blend and I blend them. So Malik's faults get held against him at time, and likewise the likeable things about him get attributed to Malik and he just gets washed over in my mind. Poor YnM, no love... razz

I find pregnancy in general creepy as well, though Mpreg doesn't bother me anymore than female preg does. And I don't think it bothers me enough to stop me reading a story if I'm really enjoying it, but I do agree they should have a warning. XD;;

Awww, but I love Yami no Malik, so he gets that at least! XD
PostPosted: Sat Nov 07, 2009 10:10 pm

Yea, but with female pregnancy I at least get how it works, with Mpreg I have to think about it, and ugh I don't like to think about it, and stories elaborate and ugh I just can't take it!!! Anyhow I don't think I read stories with female pregnancy in them either, it's just less of an issue because most of the fanfiction I read is either not for pairing or it's for yaoi. While there are tons of het couples I like and even find a turn on I just don't want to read it.

Yea, at least he's getting some love, good for you giving it up for YnM...^_~.

Why does hetero fanfiction almost always suck? XD And yuri fanfiction virtually nonexistent? I mostly only read non-couple or yaoi as well because of that...
Score with the love for teh Yami no Malik!
PostPosted: Sat Nov 07, 2009 10:43 pm

I agree, I mean I have hetero novels and stuff, and manga so yea I'll read het, just not in fanfiction. I have no idea why it sucks. I mean it's probably ok within certain series, I bet there is good het stuff in Twilight fanfiction, but heck if I'm gunna go read that!

That would be the most desperate time ever... XD;; I bet hetero is good in Tenchi Muyo though. <3 If fanfiction for that series exists...

Yea, it's either good in rabid fan series that you really wouldn't want to read, or would be good in series that no fanfiction exists of. Ahh the cruel paradox that is the world of fanfic.

Although I bet Harry Potter has some good stuff, it's just the sheer quantity of what is available in HP makes it daunting to search sometimes.

Anyhow as soon as I get through Gaia and my other messages and such I think I'm finally going to start typing up my fanfic. I have 12 chapters thus far but I'll probably only post 2 (the first is pretty short so I probably will do at least 2) when I get it up and then decide later how often to update, even if I have more. I think I'll have an easier time finding inspiration to keep writing as I watch my written chapters slowly disappear into posted, it'll be a race to stay ahead. I've still been writing every workday but it's been less. Whereas before it was 1 - 2 chapters a day it's not maybe a third or less of a chapter in a day. I have no idea where the story is going now so yea, harder it is.

Mkay I'll shut it and go get through emails and whatnot so that I actually get to typing at least part of it up tonight.

I think the entire internet is a cruel paradox... A CRUEL SERIES OF TUBES!!!
After seeing so much Snape/Hermione fiction listed everywhere, I decided to avoid searching for HP fanfiction...
Ooh, yay! Can't wait for you to start typing it!! X3
