Well, just the same, the PS3 holds more power than most people think. It hasn't nearly gotten to the point of being used to its full potential.

Yes, they ported the s**t out of RE4, and it was because Mikami left. He wanted to keep RE Nintendo Exclusive. Just the same, Kojima wants to keep MGS4 a PS3 exclusive. Now, this might be the last MGS game, but I'm pretty sure that unless a brilliant game designer and writer like Kojima is gonna leave Konami, he'll be insistent on MGS staying a Sony exclusive.
And frankly, MGS is Konami's most powerful franchise right now. All thanks to Kojima. He's got about as much power at Konami as Miyamoto does at Nintendo.

As for Final Fantasy, well, the reason it went on Sony's platforms was because the PS1 was a hell of a lot more powerful than anything Nintendo were working with at the time, and unlike today, I think back then, Square actually gave a damn if their games are GOOD or not.

The PS3 case is quite similar to the PS1 case, though, in terms that, for the first couple of years of PS1's release, the games that came out for it, well, half of them were 2D, nobody knew how to utilize the PS1 to its full potential. Compare one of the early PS1 games like DiscWorld:

The difference is immense, really. It's like that with every console, I'm sure. Like you said, the Wii hasn't reached its full potential yet.
But even now the first party PS3 games like Ratchet and Clank are surpassing Xbox 360's capabilities. It's true.

And even if graphics don't make a good game, it's not like there's a direct negative correlation between graphics and gameplay. Sure, Sony hit a few bumps in its first year. So did the 360. So did the PS2. So did many other consoles. It's normal. But a year later, and it's been a hell of a good winter for Sony with Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted, and many other good games. It's not like the PS3 is struggling for exclusives. Heck, Sony has more 1st party studios than Microsoft and Nintendo combined.


Then there's the issue of retail...

80 Gig PS3 with Motorstorm retails at $499.99, Xbox 360 Elite retails at $449.99. The difference isn't that high. Sure the 360 Elite has more hard drive space... But then there's that HD DVD add-on that costs, what? $200? That would make the 360 even more expensive than the PS3. Then you have to PAY for Xbox live? I pay to have an internet connection. That's the most I'm willing to spend on online play.
And frankly, I love my Blu-Ray. DVD is an outdated format for me now. And since the Blu-Ray is beating HD DVD, 70% to 30%, and now Warner Bros. AND Atlantis are switching to Blu-Ray exclusive, The PS3 is not going anywhere like so many people believed.

And finally, the issue of how good the system actually is. Well, let's see...
Every single Xbox360 is defective. Microsoft admitted that.
Statistically, the failure rate for the 360 is over 30%. The failure rate for PS3 is less than 1%. Say what you will about Sony, but they make solid pieces of hardware.

The only thing that's keeping the PS3 from dominating the market (for now) are the skeptics.
