History of Magic was possbly the only class Asterisk would hate this year, and probably all through Hogwarts. She wasn't one to understand just by reading out of a book, and that is what History is basically about. Textbooks. Asterisk could grasp literature easily but works about the past only made her feel tired. Tired of staring at a book when the same content can be show to her. The professor was fine, like most of the professors Asterisk had this year. Nothing too special but nothing too boring. Anything could happen. Her "favorite" teacher could always be the "worst" teacher on campus. You could never truly judge someone by just one class day.The first day was really boring, having the professor talk about the importance of history. She wanted to raise her hand and say, "I don't think we need to really learn history, professor. I believe that people can easily twist history and manipulate others to believe in things that are not true." but she stayed quiet, feeling like things would only going downhill if she said anything.
The first day of real learning. Asterisk listened to the teacher, wondering why he had to make this so boring, on the first day. She placed her hand under her chin as she glanced over at the overly enthusiastic classmates of hers. She rose her hand slowly befroe speaking timidly, "How many deaths have there been in the Triwizard Tournament and why not just make the tournament less... uhhh... deadly?" She seemed a bit awkward now after the words fell out of her mouth.

Life's too short to even care at all I'm losing my mind, losing control These fishes in the sea, they're staring at me A wet world aches for the beat of a drum If I could find a way to see this straight I'd run away to some fortune I should have found by now I'm waiting for this cough syrup to go down Eleazar Draven Bradley - Unknown Blood - Ravenclaw - First Year - [feeling: content] [thinking: ...] [with: First Years] [at: History of Magic] Eleazar's expression was unreadable, which was usually the case, unless he was with his family. He tended to shut down around strangers in an attempt so seem less odd and awkward. It didn't really work. He took notes and listened alternately, sensing that this was the quick run through of the history. Obviously they weren't going to dump too much on mere first years, though Eleazar just wanted to know more. "Is Hogwarts the oldest wizarding school?" he wanted to know. The ninth to tenth century certainly sounded old.If I could find a way to see this straight, I'd run away. Life's too short to even care at all I'm coming up now, out of the blue These zombies in the park, they're looking for my heart A dark world aches for a splash of the sun And so I run now to the things they said Could restore me, restore life the way it should be I'm waiting for this cough syrup to go down One more spoon of cough syrup now

She loved history, and - although she couldn't read a history book to save her life - she knew she'd love this class. Yeah, her bookwork was going to be very sloppy, but she couldn't help it. She had walked in with her head held high and her eyes full of enthusiasm.
When the teacher had asked if anyone had any questions, there were many asked, but one that caught her attention was that all the founders left relics. Someone asked if they could see them. Lexine raised her hand, eyebrows furrowed, confused, "But weren't the relics destroyed by Harry Potter when he fought against Voldemort?" Lexine asked, trying to recall what book she had gotten that information from.outfit | | ooc :: --- | | voice clipthe true sign of intelligence is not knowledge but imagination

History class… Yannic had dreaded it the whole entire week. Who in their right mind would want to sit through an hour of a class dedicated solely to talking about dead people, old/lost/dead things, and stuff that already happened? Sitting in the back as he had with all the other classes he’d been in thus far, Yannic listened as the Professor gave his lecture and opened the floor up to questions. All this talk… maybe he should have read the text before class… Though it seemed most of the students were asking questions enough for the whole class, which was nice and gave Yannic a little room to just sit back and relax. At least this history was somewhat interesting… after all, this was the History of Magic.

Now where did I put that wand?
Grayson swept into the class, ready to teach. He was actually a bit happier about this class, but still a little disappointed about the fact that they seemed not to be too inerested in history. Ah, well it really wasn't a surprise. Not everyone was excited about the same things that he was. He strode up to the chalkboard and grabbed a piece of chalk. He quickly wrote down the topic of the day and set down the chalk, dusting his hands off.
"Hello, class. Today we will be discussing the Chamber of Secrets. Now I know that some of you may have already heard about this, so please just bare with me while I bring the ones that haven't up to speed.
"The Chamber of secrets was built over a thousand years ago, around the same time that Salazar Slytherin left the school. There was speculation about the chamber for centuries, but no one could really even pinpoint how Slytherin could have created such a place to begin with, let alone what the Chamber was to be used for. However, that all changed back in the first half of the twentieth century.
"The chamber was opened, releasing a monster that only an heir to Slytherin could control. Since Salazar Slytherin was a Parselmouth, the creature was a snake. A basilisk, to be precise. The chamber had been opened by a then-unknown prefect by the name of Tom Riddle, and its purpose was insidious. That was to kill every one who didn't belong in Hogwarts. Namely muggle-born witches and wizards.
"Eventually the attacks stopped, as someone was apprehended for the crimes. However that was not the end for the history for the Chamber itself. In 1992, the chamber was opened again, this time by a fragment of Tom Riddle's soul. The attacks resumed, and it wasn't until the actions of Harry Potter and Ronald Weasley that the attacks stopped." He looked about the class. "Now I know that some of you may have questions, so don't hesitate to ask. I would be happy to answer them to the best of my ability."

Location: History class (Thursday: 8:00am to 8:45am) Alice and Jasper walked to yet another History class. Jasper was excited while like usual Alice was less then pleased with having to sit through a boring class. Granted it wasn’t as boring as regular muggle history that much she was sure of. Taking a seat both took notes about the Chamber of Secrets. Of course at the mention of a giant snake Alice shivered slightly. “Is it dead…? The Basilisk to be exact… did they kill it?” Alice asked. She clearly didn’t like snakes. Jasper took her hand as she asked her question in attempts to calm her down. He’d said they stopped the attacks so it would make sense that the snake was no longer in the castle where it could be unleashed upon anyone again. Luckily Jasper’s presence helped Alice a bit but she still didn’t like the idea of a giant snake roaming the halls of Hogwarts. Status: Happy... A little Scared Wearing: Uniform Status: Happy... Exactly how big had it been? 15 feet? Longer? How was it going to kill the muggleborns? Eat them whole? Would it have killed him? He didn't even know what he was. And how did a couple of kids kill a giant snake, anyways? "Uh... where was the Chamber of Secrets, exactly?" he nearly stammered. Hogwarts was a big place. Lots of places to hide a snake and maybe multiple bodies. If I could find a way to see this straight, I'd run away. Flynn kept his head down as he furiously scribbled down anything and everything he could that the Professor was saying. This was how a proper student was supposed to study, anyways… right? As he finished up with his notes and the Professor opened the floor up to questions, Flynn’s hand shot up. The first thing that came to mind was the idea of Parselmouths. ”Professor, what does Parselmouth mean?” He asked, drawing a blank when he’d heard the word. To him, the phrase was constructed of two words – parcel and mouth, which gave him a vivid but most likely inaccurate image of what it meant.

Ani listened intently to the professor. She had read about the chamber of secrets before in a few history books. What a scary thought it was though. Thinking of the basilisk gave her a kind of rush of excited, fearful energy that made her want to start learning defensive spell as quickly as possible. But she contented with listening to the other peoples questions. Loyal...And a hard worker to boot, You help those in need, I see, Then this house is perfect for that attitude... Hufflepuff!

Grayson looked up from his book as he noticed the students coming in. He didn't know how long he had been sitting reading, but the effect was always the same. Usually it would end with him being confused about what was going on, but today was different. He was supposed to be teaching the class, and as usual, it left him a bit awkward as to how to go about it. He however decided to go about doing it the simple way.
"Hello, class, and welcome to History of Magic. I am your professor, Grayson Powell. In this class, there is no wandwork, since magic doesn't help you to learn about history. Therefore, your wands will need to be put away." He stood, taking his feet from off the desk and faced the children directly. "History is a collection of events, as I'm sure you are all well aware of. However, these events help to shape the world around us. If not for the witch burnings of the sixteen hundreds, we would not have the Statue of Secrecy. If not for the crises of the last century, we would not have cooperation of all magical folk." He glanced around the class, letting his gaze fall over each of the students. "Now, can someone tell me, besides what I have stated, why history needs to be learned?"

Cathy or Cate Cathaline Acacia League ❤ Hufflepuff ❤ ❤I am a first year. ❤My wand is... 8 ½ inches, acacia wood, with fairy hair core, springy, and spiraled. ❤My directions say I am... {at History of Magic I and with my peers and the professor} ❤My clock says it is Monday, Block 5 and class will last from 1-1:45 pm
❤ You want to know more about me? ❤ Wearing: My uniform ❤ (Oh and my big brother? He's a 3rd year Ravenclaw.) ❤
❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ History of Magic was her first class of the year, in the afternoon on Monday, and she had to say she couldn't be happier. She practically bounced into the room. History was something she absolutely loved. It was all about people and more. And, of course, history was the type of thing that came fairly easily to her. With a happy smile she sat near the front, a notebook out with a pink quill that she had laying beside the open book. She scribbled a few notes on what Professor Powell mentioned about witch burnings and the crises of the last century that influenced current events.
When Professor Powell asked why learning history was important, Cathy's hand shot up and she said, "Well, besides the fact that the history influences the present, there remains this theory that learning history helps keep history-particularly bad events-from repeating again. By learning about the past we have a foundation to build from and can make better decisions as a society. It doesn't always work, of course, but if we don't even make an attempt to learn, history is guaranteed to repeat itself. Progress is impossible to be made." { } Even if I laugh or cry or don't get rewarded I will love that life There doesn't have to be anything that's perfect

Ariana walked into her History of Magic class and looked around the room. She was a bit unsure about this class, as she often got bored with anything like history, and it was going to be harder to make games out of it. Either way, she walked in and sat down near the front of the room. She watched the professor close his book and walk up to the front of the room, looking over all the students. He asked why history had to be learned. Ariana thought a minute then raised her hand. "Well...history can repeat itself, can't it? So, we can learn from the mistakes we made before, and maybe fix what we did before, but in a better way, right...? If that even makes sense. It's like what one muggle writer...was he a writer...? Anyway, a muggle person said 'Those who cannot remember the past, are condemned to repeat it'..." Ariana said, trying her best to remember it. She'd read it in a book once, but couldn't remember who exactly had said it.
