I have no problem with them doing this, but they do need to make a good 3d sonic game.
If they just do what their fanbase wants this will happen:
Reviewers:Game is retro, is fun.
Fans: Is Good
If they keep doing it
Reviewers: Okay....
Annoying Fans: No, this is the best game ever!!!!
Regular Fans:Okay....
Sonic dies
Personally, I hope they don't make this a sonic game and create a new franchise that lives in the 16-bit era.
Also, I don't believe that the Wii can run HD.

You know, there's always the possibility that this new game might end up being a game for WiiWare. After what happened with Mega Man 9, it's a pretty safe bet that anything is possible.
Also, Pikachu with a sombrero would make an interesting game.
