I love James Patterson's Maximum Ride books; in fact, I just finished the newest one (FANG) yesterday. Fang is my totally second-favorite character, next to Max herself. Then there's Iggy, Nudge, the Gasman(Gazzy), and Angel. They all have wings; human-avian hybrids. Ages are, respectively, 15, 15, 15, 12, 9, and 7. I wish JP hadn't left FANG at such a cliffhanger, though! Rrrgh.
Then there's Tamora Pierce's Tortall and Circle of Magic series-es (I don't know the plural of series). Song of the Lioness quartet, Immortals quartet, Protector of the Small quartet, Beka Cooper trilogy, the Trickster's pair. And that's just Tortall; in Emelan there's the Circle of Magic and The Circle Opens quartets. Another one is in the making, even.
I also like Erin Hunter's Warriors and Seekers serieses...
I wasn't kidding about the 5 paragraphs part. Need I go on?
