*****Rini Chikongou
*****Genin | Medic in Training

Rini blinked and let her chakra fade away from her hand. She glanced over at the dummies before walking to the first one. How would dummies work to diagnose? Would their "bodies" react the same to medical chakra as a living being's? Rini's eyes flicked uncertainly to Luna and then back to the dummy before her. The older woman had said that this place was designed for learning medical jutsu, so maybe these dummies were special in some way. Yeah, they had to be.

Gathering chakra around her hands again, Rini began placed them over the first dummy's chest and began sending small bursts of chakra down -- 'watching' for the return echo. The sensations she got in return were strange, and her eyebrows furrowed in concentration, trying to make heads or tails of what she was being told. After a moment, she spoke.

"I think . . . the ribs are fractured?" she hazarded uncertainly, a frown on her lips. No, that didn't seem right. Wiping the sweat from her forehead on her sleeve, she sent another pulse of chakra into the dummy, delving deeper and trying to clarify the image she was receiving.

((It is two so your next will be three))

Luna created a clone and said to her "Notify me immediately if she is having any trouble, and not her improvement." She looked at Rini "There is something extremely important I have to get from my house, but I will be back in less then a day, I want you to try and have this done by the time I get back so we can move on to more difficult jutsu." She gave RIni a hug "Your doing great, keep going" She ran off and left her clone in charge.

Rini nodded and focused deeper, picturing what she knew the inside of the human body should look like and allowing her chakra to show her what anomalies existed in the practice dummy. The image she received was still somewhat fuzzy, but it was clear enough for her to make out the problem. "It's not a fracture. Three ribs are broken -- a lung punctured as well by one of them," Rini declared as the light died from her hands. She straightened and wiped the sweat from her forehead.

The girl smiled as Luna hugged her, waving slightly in farewell before moving to the next dummy and taking a deep breath. She could already feel the strain on her chakra reserves, but she could not quit now. She had so far to go.

It was a bit easier to receive a picture from the next dummy, now that she knew how to focus her chakra in order to scan the body properly. Still, the image seemed out of focus, and it took her several minutes to identify the problem. "Internal bleeding. It almost looks like there was a stomach wound but only the outer layers of the injury were patched up, leaving the main damage unhealed."

((No, thats totally ok, I hope she is feeling better. sorry i took so long I just got homr from camp and we had no internet.))

The clone of Luna took the position where Luna was and crossed her arms, watching Rini diagnose the dummies. "The first one was almost p[erfect, you just have to say how the lung was punctured because where it was hit might cause slightly different problems. As for the second one, well done, this is why medic-nin study so hard to treat the patients and heal them correctly to prevent further problems." She thought for a second and then continued "Here is some advice to clarify the picture, when your concentrating breathe in through your nose and out through your lungs to quicken your chakra flow and make the pulse clearer."

Rini nodded and moved on to the third dummy, doing as the clone instructed and breathing deeply. In through her nose . . . out through her mouth. She began the jutsu again, folding her hands over the dummy. Indeed, the breathing made everything flow more smoothly and Rini could already see a difference in the image her chakra was projecting in her mind.

The genin grimaced. "Stomach wound. Those are pretty bad, right? The intestines are slashed, and it looks like the stomach was nicked as well. That would require immediate attention, because we don't want the stomach fluids to damage everything else."

Shaking her head to clear it of the current image, Rini continued to the fourth practice dummy. She ran her hands over the body, frowning as she found nothing. After a moment of hesitation, she moved her hands up the neck and to the head. Her eyes snapped open, widening. "Concussion," she diagnosed. "It appears the -- patient -- received a nasty blow to the head. There is some slight bleeding in the brain, but it's not severe and should be easily fixed . . ."

Rini glanced over at Luna's clone for confirmation, taking the moment to let her chakra rest before tackling the final dummy.

((I know how that feels, my dad is like that I have to give him a needle everday for his medicine O-o))

Luna looked at Rini trying to muffle a laugh at the face she had made when she saw the image. "Your going to see a lot worse than that when your in this field, trust me. Your doing well, but the last dummy will be the most difficult, now breathe in and tell me what you see."

Nodding, Rini wiped the sweat off of her brow and initiated the jutsu one last time over the fifth and final training dummy. Breathing slowly and steadily, she scanned the body, studying the image projected in her mind carefully. There was a small scratch on the outside of the right thigh, but that could not be defined as cause for making this dummy the "most difficult" of the lot. There had to be something more to it. Taking a deep breath, Rini continued the search.

Several minutes passed, and she frowned deeply. Nothing! She could not find anything! Was there nothing wrong with this one? Was it a trick question? A test? Gritting her teeth, the genin pushed deeper, focusing her chakra in steadily more precise amounts to draw out more detail.

Something seemed to tickle the back of Rini's mind -- an odd inkling -- a warning bell, in a way. She paused in her search, sifting through the newest information. The blood. Something was wrong with the blood. Something did not belong . . .

Suddenly, Rini gasped, straightening. "Poison!" she all but cried. "This one is poisoned! It must have been from the scratch on the leg. Even the smallest amount of poison -- depending on the one used -- could have a devastating effect on the victim." She rocked back on her heels, letting her hands drop to her sides. "It's -- hard to detect, and that's why its so dangerous, especially since a poisoned patient should be treated as soon as possible."

Luna put her hand on Rini's shoulder and looked serious and deep with her white Byakugan eyes. "Sometimes, even the greatest medic-nin cannot detect and even prevent poision once it has entered their victim's body, thats why it is important we hone the skills of Diagnosis." She stepped back and pulled out another scroll from her bag and opened it. "We will now be learning a series of medical techniques, and at the end you will learn a few offensive medical techniques for battle, and then we will spar a little to see what you know offensively to protect the village."

(( Each jutsu will be 2 posts since we are learning many and you already have learned diagnosis which quickens the skill))

The first one you will learn is called "Gantai no jutsu"

Gantai no jutsu (Bandage skill)
Rank: D
Type: NinJutsu
Description: One of the first techniques that a Medical Ninja must learn. Reasons why is because these techniques are what matters between life and death. This is a special type of technique in which a medical ninja is capable of making bandages by using their surroundings such as sand, grass water and others with the help of using chakra.

Rini nodded solemnly at Luna's words concerning the dangers of poison. From what she had been told, that was the reason her brother, Kohaku, had been lost. Poison. It had not been recognized and treated in time to save him. Her jaw tightened as she looked down at the training dummy, waiting for Luna's instructions for learning the next technique-- Gantai no Jutsu.

She glanced over at the clone, chewing on her lower lip. "Sensei, is -- is there any way for me to specialize in poisons?" she asked after a moment.

Luna looked at the girl "Well, you have to learn all the basics before you can specialize in something dont you think..." Luna was trying to avoid the subject but finally said after silence "but yes, I in fact am a poison specialist myself, one fo the few medic-nin in fact who still are. However, that leads me to think" she walks a few steps not facing Rini "that you either have a vendetta against someone, or are planning something especially dangerous yourself...but thats just my thoughts" she turns her head but not her entire body "care to enlighten me, little shinobi."

Rini lowered her gaze, not sure what to feel. Shame? Guilt? Sorrow? Hurt? She clenched her hands in and out of fists, licking her lips and taking a shaky breath. "My -- my brother Kohaku died because -- because he was poisoned and the medic in his team could not --" Her voice broke and she swallowed heavily. "He was not able to be treated in time, and even if he had, the medics were unsure if he would have survived even then. It was just too -- potent and --"

The girl shook her head, forcing down the tears that warmed her eyes. If she could not control her emotions, then she would never be a proper kunoichi. Composing herself again, Rini straightened and looked at her sensei. "Poisons are the most dangerous weapons in a shinobi's arsenal. A single drop of the right poison could take out a village if gone unnoticed and untreated. I want to learn as much as I can about them so maybe no one else will suffer as my brother did."

Luna turned and let tears run down her eyes thinkimg about her own brother Heichi and what they had said to her when she died The cause of death was unkown, probably some type of lethal poisoning though... Luna snapped back to reality and wiped her tears and leaned down to Rini. "Im not going to say I know what your going through, because every situation is different, but my brother died of poisoning as well, he was killed by rogue ninja and left to float down a river for three days so the poison could wear away, his name was Heichi and he was only 24 at the time. Ill give you a deal, you promise to learn the basic medic jutsu, and I will teach you everything I know about poisons, ok?" she smiled and put out her hand for Rini to shake.

There was no hesitation as Rini firmly grasped Luna's hand in return, nodding quickly. "Of course!" she all but exclaimed. "I'll learn whatever you teach me. I'll be the best student you've ever had!" Where Rini had been determined to become a medic before, her spirit burned even brighter now -- no doubt any longer in her heart. She would train as hard as physically possible -- do whatever it was Luna asked of her without any question or complaint.

Releasing her sensei's hand, Rini straightened, a look of firm determination on her face. "So, Gantai no Jutsu. What do I have to do?"

Luna took otu a kunai and cut a long slit in her arm "In 3 minutes I will pass out if this is not properly bandaged, use the water from the river to heal the wound and grass and dirt form the ground to create a bandage, simple."

"It seems your making good progress."

Yun got there just intime to see Luna slit her arm. He signaled in his mind for Ichiha to pull back in his healing chakra as Yun approached. He leaned against the wall and watched to see what Rini would do.

Rini drew a sharp breath in surprise and horror. "Sensei!" For a split-second, her mind panicked, but then she wrestled it back into place and hurried Luna to a chair. "Come with me," she said hurriedly, pulling her sensei toward the river while keeping the woman's arm elevated to slow the bleeding.

"Sit. Stay still." Her hands moved through the needed signs and she focused her chakra into her hands as she put them into the water. "Gantai no Jutsu." When she slowly pulled her hands out, the water seemed to coat her skin and trail behind her hands like ribbons. Rini blinked as her concentration broke and the water fell back into the river. She cursed softly under her breath, flushing, and tried again.

"Gantai no Jutsu," she declared more insistently, repeating the process. This time, she carefully kept her chakra flowing steadily, moving her hands over the freely-bleeding wound. Rini pictured what she wanted in her head, and slowly the water began to twist around Luna's arm -- a bit ragged around the edges, but covering the wound nonetheless.
