Rini: You're right. It isn't the same thing.
But unfortunately ALOT of people either don't know that, or are unwilling to accept even the slightest idea that (goes against their personal idea of right and wrong) some of it's ok. As for Not liking anime unless it's censored. Then all I can say is... congrats, you live where you trully belong. (I wish I could go live in japan - or at least visit... ALOT)

Can't really find a middle ground, can you? You either believe in one extreme or another? No wonder you can't accept that other people might live a middle-ground sort of existence.

You got the money part right, but you forgot the most important part: influence. Which doesn't necessarily come from money, actually. And while I won't deny that assassinations have happened, including secret ones, they're not as rampant as television would have us believe.

I think it's perfectly fair to say it's more serious there. You can tell a lot from a nation's entertainments. For example, the U.S. is scary violent. We are obsessed with violence and power. And Japan has major sexual issues. It comes from being one of the most repressed societies in the world. I could tell you what the psychological problems of other nations are, too. Anyway, there's a point at which "freedom of sexual expression" crosses the line into "overdoing it for the sake of doing it." And making a buck. If drawing naked people gets your rocks off, fine, as long as it's in the privacy of your own home. But when it goes public, and you use it to make money, you ought to start considering consequences and impacts. If everyone were more responsible about their own actions overall, this would be a better world. And just to argue semantics, I wouldn't say Japan has what you call "freedom of sexual expression." After all, their sex underground is still an underground, like anywhere else. Jungle tribes in South America have more freedom of sexual expression, and I can prove it. They just don't have a porn underground, probably because they don't need or want it.

And what's wrong with the yugioh cards? I like them just fine.

Yep, I have trouble agreeing with both sides of anything.

But if it's a choice between not being able to enjoy something I might want to, and everything being free even if I don't like it, then I'll pick number 2.
After all, I can always "look the other way" if I don't want to see something.
(and that's a freedom that most people seem to forget that they have)

I'll agree with you on that. If it came down to a choice between those two, I'd pick 2, as well. But I can still dream of a perfect balance. 4laugh And "looking the other way" only gets you so far. We've been doing that for decades with advertisements, and now they're everywhere. You can't look at anything without seeing one. gonk

We have plenty of freedom in our homes. If you're feeling cramped, it's cuz you're sharing a house with 3 other people. Believe me, I know what that feels like. But the only solution is moving out.

Some of that "censorship" on cards is nothing more than language and cultural changes. Not what I'd call censorship. Most of them look fine, great even. It's not like there's a story to be compromised here. And Dark Magician Girl looks the same! eek A lot of the changes are just a matter of a few lines, less emphasis on the chest, or some added clothing. Nothing dire. If these were developed characters with a background history, I'd be more concerned about it. But they're just cards for a game.

Actually that's not the type of "home freedom" I was thinking of.
I was refering to the things that get outlawed because some idiot parades it around outside and then no one is allowed to have it, even IN their home.

What gets me is that everyone gets so paranoid about the loli animes and then they go and make the dark magician girl LOOK like a loli by removing (or diminishing) the one thing that most people would considder makes her LOOK like an adult. (which would be her larger "more detailed" breasts - heck they removed the cleavage line completely)

Well, there's nothing you can do about other people.

Breast size has almost nothing to do with the age of a person or character. They're constantly exaggerating breast size on anime characters that are supposed to be very young. And real people come in all different shapes and sizes. In the case of DMG, I don't think it makes that big of a difference. You're supposed to be putting her on a game board, not ogling her. Anyway, I doubt the removal of the cleavage was intended to make her look younger, just less voluptuous. As I said, size does not equal age. Her face looks as young/old as it ever did. Why are you constantly equating breast size with age? Women are not trees. xp Am I to assume the older the man, the bigger the p***s? blaugh

I am reminded of the law in australia that bans images of ALL women with small breasts regardless of age.
