Chobits was based heavily on the prospect of a personal relationship with what amounts to a slave if you assume she was sentient. IRL, AI hasn't quite gotten to the point where it could totally fool you, although it's quite close. It would just be a machine with a human voice, i.e. creepy. And even if we assumed that we had gotten to the point of sentient machines, I would argue that they shouldn't be kept as servants if they were aware. Either way, the fantasy would be busted.

And I believe the word you were looking for, dude, was "appealing." Chobits didn't really do anything unique or thought-provoking, so it's appeal is entirely subjective.

Yeah, we're not there yet... and first we have to go through robots like the ones on "I robot"

And we know THAT doesn't tern out to well don't we.
We'd also have to avoid the "Matrix" problems.

The only diff in chobits, is that they're "programmed" to want to be "slaves" - as you put it.
