Frowning, Isabella stands up and leans across the table. Placing a hand on his forehead, she shakes her head. "You don't look too good. I thought you had a fever but you don't." she says to him. Looking at him, she thinks before speaking again. "You know, I may have asked my father for you to be a guard but not because I think less of you. I actually consider you a very close friend. I was afraid that if I didn't that my father would be having you rushing around doing high work for him and then I would be alone again." she says in a low voice as she sits back in her chair. Looking down at her lap, her expression is no longer happy and bubbly. It was a very sad expression instead.

After her mother had passed away, she had been alone. Even though the servants and their children tried to keep her company, she never truly felt like she belong. That was until Kyso was introduced into her fathers court and eventually into his house.

Next night

((I'm sorry I let you get bored.))

Kyso flicked her hand away, snapping, "I'm fine." He was shocked, by her mild confession. Some part of Kyso softened, as he admitted, "You are the closest thing to a friend I have." Which was true. The only other one he actually talked to was Deity, but they hated each other. He frowned, when he realized that she wanted the exact opposite of what he'd dreamed of. He'd never considered having a companion. If he needed one, he could call a small daemon to be with him. ((I'll try and remember what anime that's from. It might have been a webcomic...)) "If I were to join your father's court, you would not be alone." He reached up, running a hand through his hair, in what would have been a nervous gesture for anyone else, letting the coins and bones jingle. "You could also join his court, you are powerful enough. And even if we were apart, I will summon a daemon ((it might actually be a golem...I barely remember--I just don't want you to have to wait any longer)) that will always be with you."

Isabella looks at him and smiles. Looking down at her lap, she runs her fingers through some of her hair. "I don't believe Father would let me be in his court. He keeps trying to find people to marry me off to. Those that don't pass him but manage to get to me just get turned down anyways." she says. Standing up, she shakes her head. "I've seen love shared between the demons in the town. That is what I want with the man I choose to marry." Shaking her head, Isabella turns and walks out of the kitchen.

Walking back to her room, Isabella changes into a simple green gown. One that would not point her out to be royalty. Pulling her hair back into a ponytail, she leaves her room and walks down the hallways. Reaching the outside, she walks through a secret passage in the wall and enters into the main part of the town. Smiling at everything she sees, Isabella starts to walk around the main square.

In a sensible tone, Kyso reasoned, "You have not shown much interest in the demon courts. Perhaps if you did, your father would include you." And the two of you could live happily ever after? You're pathetic, Kyso, Kyso twitched minutely at Deity, then stood up to join her. "How do you know they were in love? How do you know such a thing exists, Isabella?" He sounded fairly certain that it didn't.

As her new bodyguard, Kyso remains at her side, until they reach her room. He waits until she's changed, before escorting her through the halls. He was surprised by the passage, for he'd thought he'd known all of the corridors in the castle. Pleased to have learned something, he whispered a minor defense and resistance ((think shell and protect)) spell on her, as going out in the open obviously was the most dangerous. None the less, he couldn't keep the wry smirk off his face as he commented, "You seem happy." It was like she had mood swings. He hoped that wasn't the case. Or at least that it was fixable.

Isabella turns and looks at Kyso, remembering that he had asked how she knew they were in love. Looking around, she points to a couple not far away. They were holding hands and they lean towards each other and kiss. "That is love Kyso and if that is love then maybe what I feel towards...never mind." she says quickly as she walks into a store that she happened to be standing in front of. Looking around at all the jewelry in the shop, she smiles. Walking to one of the many cases, she looks down at them all. The many gems and metals sparkle under the lights. The shop keeper comes over and smiles at her. "Good afternoon Miss. Is there anything that I can help you with?" he asks her. "Oh no, I'm fine thank you. I'm just looking at the moment." she says, smiling at him.

Next night

The young man raised an eyebrow, looking first at them, then at the couple. "Do you truly believe that they wouldn't do that if they lusted after each other?" Kyso hadn't done it, but he'd been nice to girls to have sex with them before. It probably was the same principle. Now, Kyso, while very gifted and talented, was socially inept. Actually, that's too mild, social stupid. Though he heard the beginning of her sentence, he did not consider completing it, especially not with himself. "Shopping?" he murmured, so that only she could hear, "You came here to shop?" He was expecting something either extravagant or humanitarian. He wasn't sure which, but obviously he'd been far off.

Turning to look at Kyso, she glares at him. Bowing the shop keeper, she turns and walks out of the shop. The man just chuckles a bit. "There are times I'm shocked that she manage to get out of the castle. She has been coming here ever since she was little. Her mother would bring her here." the man says, chuckling. "If your supposed to watch her I'd hurry up. I didn't have a chance to tell her to be careful this time around. There are some thugs that just came to town and they are messing with all the pretty young girls." With that, the man returns to the back of the shop.

Isabella wanders through the town and stops in front of another store. This one is a wedding store. Looking inside, she smiles as she sees a couple inside picking things out for their wedding that she assumed was coming up. "Why can't I just have the courage to say something to him. I mean really. Am I that weak?" she mumbles to herself as she looks down at the ground.

Next night

Socially retarded as he was, Kyso had no idea why he was glared at, and actually turned to the shop keeper for guidance, as he seemed to be offering some. He was still confused when he was sent on his way, but figured it couldn't be important. For he knew everything important. He tried to push his way through the crowd, but people kept bumping into his wings, pushing him backward. Giving up, he took to the air. It barely was a moment before he spotted her bright purple hair, and he flew to her, landing beside the wedding, though he had to kick someone in the face to do so easily. He entered, coming to her side and commented, "Next time don't leave without me, I'd rather not be tortured. At least not without some fun in between. Not for the first time did the bisexual demon think of the implications of choosing her father instead. It just hadn't seemed possible. Sure, he was attractive, but Isabella was a different way. He did not know how to explain it. Thankfully, he didn't need to though.

Looking at Kyso as he lands next to her, she smiles at him. "Don't you think it would be great to get married to someone. I hear that mother and father's wedding was a wonderful thing to see." she says to him. Sighing, she turns and looks at the giant clock at the center of town. "I should get back. It's almost time for father to go to the court and he always comes by to ask me if I would like to attend. Maybe I should this time." Sighing, she starts back for the passage way but a guy bumps into her and she stumbles back a bit.

The guy turns and looks at her with a smile on his face. His buddies stop and see what was holding their friend up. Seeing Isabella, they smile. "Hey there girl, what are you doing out here all by yourself. I mean, a wonderfully delicious looking girl like you shouldn't be out here alone." he says to her. Isabella looks at him and shifts slightly away from him. "I'm not by myself. So please leave me alone." she says as she turns to leave. Immediately, the guy grabs her arm and pulls her against him hard. "Hey, come on don't be like that. Let's just play a bit."

Kyso, though quite tall, could not be considered a large man. Years of fasting left him with a visibly frail frame. And though he stood inches taller than most of the surrounding population, the young demon had a habit of blending into the shadows nearby. When someone dared to touch Isabella though, he seemed to manifest from the shadow, his wings spread to increase his frightening appearance. Within seconds, he pinned the being against the door, insuring that its knob struck painfully into his back. His normally grey eyes bleed into a dark red, and his voice took on a deeper tone as he hissed at the man, “You will never touch another who is unwilling. If you do, their pain will come back threefold onto you,” his hair raised up around him, as Deity formed the curse that he spoke, “Each night, the pain you have caused will increase, until you die to be punished for your sins.” He dropped the shaking boy, turning back to Isabella. His eyes had a hollow note to them, as if he were trying to erase a memory that was forcing its way to the surface. “Let’s go.” He said simply, turning towards the alley with the secret entrance.

Startled by his actions, Isabella takes a moment before she begins to move. Rushing after Kyso, she is relieved to see the secret passage appear before them. Quickly, she rushes to Kyso and hugs him from behind. "Thank you Kyso." she says to him quietly. Releasing him, she walks around front of him and kisses his cheek before vanishing into the passage. Walking into the garden, Isabella heads for the large fountain in the center of the labyrinth again. Sitting down on the edge of the fountain, she looks into the water and smiles. That was very sweet of Kyso. I'm sure he would have done that even if he wasn't my bodyguard. she thinks with a smile on her face.

Next night

Kyso lost himself in his thoughts as he entered the passage. At the mere touch from behind, he flinched away, his thoughts taking him back to a different time. Only her soft scent kept him from attacking her in defense of himself. He stood still, as if in a stupor, then turned to watch her leave. His eyes held a wide note to them, with uncharacteristic youthfulness apparent within them. As she faded from sight, he hugged himself in the darkness. He was such a pathos creature not even Deity commented. With his wings about him, Kyso tried to clear his mind once more. It was good for him that she did not stay: he would have told her if she had. Just to make her understand how important it is to be strong always. But that would have lowered his position in her eyes, taking away years of work. He could not do that.

Inhaling deeply, and brushing a hair out of his face, Kyso left the secret corridor. Before he went to find Isabella, for he knew his duty was to stay with her, he placed a barrier on the corridor, so that he might know who used it. He didn't even need to listen to know she'd gone to the garden once more, it seemed to be how she spent her days. Returning to her side, he took up a post behind her, commenting wryly, "I'm your body guard. I must stay within your presence at all times." He was a little more stand offish than usual, as he worked on putting all of his emotions away from him once more.

Rolling her eyes at his statement, she stands up and walks over to him. Standing right in front of him, she takes a deep breath before speaking. "You know, you shouldn't seem so stand offish." she says to him as she gently pokes him on the tip of his nose. "What if a girl comes up and says she loves you? Would you continue to be this way?" As she speaks, her cheeks turn a light pink. Turning away from him, she goes over to the fountain again and sits back down. I can't believe I just said that. It was so stupid. she thinks as she looks down at her lap.

Next night

As always, Kyso started off defensive. He knew that attachments were bad. He knew of pain, and did not want to experience it more than necessary. Though he attempts to express this sentiment, the poke on his nose gave him such a shocked look that made him utterly adorable. It was almost painful to get his mind to start working and try to understand why she said what she did. He walked closer to her, trying desperately to understand, but not succeeding. "What are you talking about? What girl would speak to me that way?" The servants of the castle were either terrified of him, or had graced his bedroom before and knew better than to speak of such trivialities to him. So who else? Then it occurred to him; her? But why would she use such a roundabout way of saying it? She usually was straightforward. Besides, she wasn't truly silly enough to believe in that love s**t, right? His eyes betrayed that he was thinking, but not what. The rest of his face was its usual blank slate.

Frustrated, she stands up and turns to him. Her face is bright red. "You just don't get it do you?!" she says to him. Going to him, she grabs him by his collar and pulls him down towards her. Kissing him lightly on the lips, she takes a step back before turning and running into the castle. Running all the way to her room, she slams her door shut and leans against it. "Why did I just...oh that was so stupid..." she mumbles. Shaking her head, she goes over to her wardrobe. Picking out a long blood red gown. She changes into it. The long flowing sleeves reach almost to the ground. Looking down at herself, she lets out a sigh. The gown hung off of her shoulders and traveled all the way down the floor. Intricate designs done in gold and emerald green gems decorated the entire gown. Slipping on a pair of matching shoes, she leaves her room and heads for the throne room where her father held council. She walked slowly, not entirely sure if she truly wished to go.
