Nayely looked at her daughter. Please don't fall. She thought as she waited to see if she could walk.

With nothing to hold her up, the girl was finding it very difficult to keep her balance -- especially on one foot. As she swung her other foot forward to take another step, she began to teeter dangerously to one side. With a squeak of alarm, she snapped one hand up and grabbed a hold of the woman's sleeve, clinging to her for support.

As Noriko grabbed her sleeve, Nayely pushed slightly which she grabbed Noriko's wrist so that she wouldn't fall. "Be careful Noriko...you don't want to get hurt do you?" She asked with a smile.

The girl blinked. There was that word again, and the way the woman used it . . . what did it mean? Her eyebrows furrowed as she tried to stand on her own again, teetering only slightly and remaining upright. "Nohriiikoh?" she inquired carefully, tilting her head to one side.

"Thats your name silly." She said with a laugh as she placed her hand on Noriko's head. "Make sure to remember that." She said with a smile.

Noriko ducked her head slightly beneath the woman's head, smiling almost sheepishly and echoing, "Naaymu silllleee. Aai reeemimburr." The girl then turned and started to wobble slowly around the room, speaking as she moved. "Noh--rii--koh. Noh-ri-koh. No-ri-ko. No-ri-ko." With each step, she became more and more steady until she hardly wobbled at all and did not need to hold her hands out to keep herself steady -- though she still did so, anyway. Wiggling her fingers, she grinned at the woman. "Noriko!"

"You can say your name clearly now huh?" She asked with a smile.

A couple months later . . .

Noriko moves smoothly into the kitchen. Walking was not so difficult once you got the hang of it -- talking, too. Cooking, however . . . . still escaped her. She frowned at the oven as if the appliance was offensive and distasteful, tucking her hands in her sleeves. "One day," she told it firmly. "One day, I will win, and you will behave." The girl sighed. Until then, she would have to rely either on her mother, or the contents of the fridge. She stepped over to the latter and peered in, frowning slightly as her stomach rumbled.

"Did you want something Noriko?" Ask Noriko as she walked into the kitchen, which only the sounds of her heels were heard throughout the kitchen.

Noriko seemed to crumple in relief at the sound of her mother's voice. She turned from the fridge and closed the door, smiling at the woman. "Yes, please. My stomach will not stop talking . . ." The girl rubbed the object in question, which let out another rumble as if on cue. Noriko giggled lightly and moved to sit at the table.

"Well then...what would you like to eat?" She asked.

Noriko hummed in thought, tapping her chin. Oh, the choices! She had tried so many things in the past months, some of which were good and others . . . not so good. She opened her mouth to answer but then paused. No, that would not be a proper breakfast. There was that one thing . . . but what was it called again? "May I have an . . . omuulettuu?" she asked carefully, wincing slightly at what she knew was the butchering of the word.

"An egg omelette?" She asked. "Sure." She said as she walked to the fridge, which her heels echoed in the kitchen. She then walked back to the stove and cracked open the eggs and started to cook. After about a minute, Nayely gently slid the omelette from the pan to a plate and then walked over to Noriko, which her heels were loud. She then stopped and grabbed a fork and then continued to Noriko. "Here you go honey." She said with a smile.

"Ah, yes yes, that," Noriko confirmed quickly, bobbing her head and watching as her mother moved about the kitchen, preparing the dish. After a few minutes, she seemed to wince slightly and rubbed her ears. "Do your shoes have to be so loud, mother? I mean, aren't sh---shi-noh-bi supposed to be quiet? Oh! Thanks!" She took up the fork and began eating, glancing up at Nayley every now and again and waiting for her answer.

"Yes...shinobi are suppose to be quiet...but in a tiled house...heels make a lot of noise." She said with a smile. "But...are you going to be a shinobi?" She asked to see if Noriko is on the right track.
