"Yeah, I don't need a sitter," I said in a rather cold tone before I looked up at her when she said she knew it had been sabotaged. That only made my mood fowler. I ran a hand through my hair pushing it back as my body ached from the simple movement but I was still set on doing races tonight. With or without my father's support. Anyone could tell that by looking in my fury filled eyes.
I shivered a little bit in the cold air and pulled my hat out of my pocket and pulled it low down over my eyes and pulled a set of keys out of my pocket. "I need to do this. I know it sounds ridiculous and you are worried for me, I need to get this done though," I growled resting my head on my knees.

I rolled my eyes. A sitter? He thought I was a sitter? “Hey, look here pal. I’m your friend whether you like it or not. I heard the fight you had with your dad. We all did.” I smiled, remembering how loud the fight was. “Heck, China could have heard you.”
It was true, I was worried for him. I couldn’t help it. He was my childhood best friend. I almost lost him twice. Sometimes, I figured I needed him more than I realized. At least, that’s what my Aunt Karen told me a few times the night before. But there was something going on in Logan’s mind that I couldn’t figure out. “Wait,” I said as I sat up straight and looked at him. “Need to do what? You’re not getting back out on that track. If you get hurt again, I’ll gut you like a fish. I swear, I will.”

I stood up and looked at her quietly before shaking my head opening up my arms despite it hurting like hell. "Gut me and skin me alive if it makes you feel better. I need this race though if I plan on catching any one. I can't go back to that race track, I'm banned from it remember? All I got is the underground circuit. That's my shot," I said calmly being a lot better about my temper, but it was still there. I didn't hate her, and I wanted to fall in love with that temper again, but I kept myself from doing anything fearful of loosing her again.

His eyes were getting to me. And I hated it. I felt guilty for sounding like a mother. I ran my fingers through my hair. This was harder than I thought. He couldn’t race but, knowing Logan, he would do anything to get in that race again. He was right, after all. We needed to find whoever sabotaged the engine. I wanted to hunt them down and gut them like a fish. I sighed as I could find no other way around it. “Alright,” I finally said. “But on one condition. I’m coming with you and checking your engine right before the race. Understood? No one goes near it but me.”

I put my arms down thankful of getting rid of the pain finally. I sighed loudly and stuck my hands into my pockets before smirking at her. "Come on then, if you are coming with, you've got to come with now, that car isn't ready for anything," I said with a smile climbing into my dad's truck opening the door for her while I started up the rust bucket feeling so tired, but I had to get going.
When she'd climbed in, I gave my lead foot what it had been wanting for a while. I drove down the street rapidly, but I had a look on my face of pure relaxation not being worried about it at all. When I'd reached my home, and slipped out of my truck and walked into the garage portion where the cars were stored, but never really worked on as I could only do basic things. I walked into the garage and ripped back a leather cover that had been cracking from drying out from not moving or being worked at all.
Under the dirt, a jet black 73 Charger with a 'x' across the hood then slipping under the hood not touching the rest of it at all while the grill was framed in chrome. I looked at X quietly knowing I needed new tires, but side from that, I had no idea what else. "Meet X, my other car that I use to race in high school. I got her after you left. Any ways, I was wondering if you could help me at least get her running to enter," I said softly looking at Sophie unsure hoping she could do some miracle to make it work.

I climbed in the truck and suddenly hoped this wasn’t the car he was going to race in. Thankfully, it wasn’t. When we stopped at his house, I didn’t know what to expect he would be hiding in his garage but once I saw her I could feel my fingers tingling. “She’s beautiful.” I said, even though she was really old. Heck, she was a 73’ Charger so of course she was old. Who knew how long it had been since she had felt the road beneath her. “You supply the parts and I’ll supply the handy work.”
I had never been so excited to work on a car. Aside from working on my dad’s car, of course. When Logan finally got me all of the parts I needed, I began on the engine. The painting would have to wait. We didn’t have that much time until the race. At least for painting. With my record, we had plenty of time for the hard stuff.
I finished in no time at all. Soon we were driving down the streets and heading toward the race. The engine purred so smoothly underneath the hood. She felt like a dream. I imagined what it would feel like once I got my father’s car back on the streets. The Charger was ready as she was ever going to be. She was pumped up and ready to go. However, I was still worried about Logan racing again.

I sat down and looked it over as she worked not saying anything and keeping out of her hair as she worked on X while I worked on myself bandaging up my body and wearing a brace that was normally for your back, but it was protection for my ribs. It helped me feel better and a little less worried about anything. I was worried about a fight, so I just hoped that would be enough to protect my delicate ribs.
When I was finally able to get X under me again, it felt good to hear her purr again and I smiled as my leather fingers wrapped around the steering wheel. My torso had a leather coat, jeans jacket, and a black t-shirt beneath. For my lower half, boots and jeans. I use to have a suit, but that burned up in the crash. I was kind of worried as I didn't even have a helmet to keep safe, all I had was a black newsboy hat and I didn't think it would help much but to quick tame my wild and unruly hair.
"I'll be fine, promise," I said gently pulling a box out and putting it on the dashboard. It was simple and made out of stainless steel so it couldn't be harmed at all, but honestly, that was the whole point. "That is for you, don't open it though," I said with a smirk, "you'll hate me forever if you open it while I'm still alive, just hold onto it. I don't want to mess it up while I'm driving." I didn't look at her or talk to her again until we reached the track and I stopped to go sign up.
I didn't come back until I did and I pulled the keys out of my pockets again. "Alright, we are in last since we've got no rep here, and we've got ten minutes to be on the start line to race," I explained being a little out of breath already from all the running and my broken ribs threatening to constrict me like a snake. I looked up at Sophie again with my chest heaving up and down and my arms shaking a little bit.

I still didn't want him racing but there was no way I could stop him. Once his mind was set, that was it. Then again, I was the same away about a few things. The stainless steal box rested on the dashboard. It was for me but I couldn't open it. My mind was reeling. What could it be? Though, if it was a box that could fit in his pocket that could only mean one thing. And even then I didn't know what to think. I placed the box in my own pocket. The weight of the box seemed to weigh heavier in my mind then it did in my actual pocket.
We arrived and Logan went to go sign up while I stayed by the car. This was all too familiar to me. No one had helmets. They didn't seem like they wanted to put them on anyway. No safety gear. No nothing. This was street racing. So it wasn't a surprise to me when Logan explained there weren't going to be any refs.
"Of course not," I told him. "It's street racing. No rules. Anything goes." A very large man began to walk towards us. His eyes on Logan only.
"You're that kid who lost the race. I had a lot of money on you." He pointed a finger at Logan. Up close, he was taller and bigger. I folded my arms as if waiting for something I knew wouldn't happen.
"What? You're not even going to say hello?" I asked. The man looked at me for a split second and then back at Logan. It took him a minute to realize who I actually was. The man turned back to me and smiled.
"Sophie?! Where have you been?" He laughed and patted me on the arm "It's been a long time. Where's Tony? He not racing?" The man asked. I shook my head.
"No, not today. I thought I might bring the rookie here." I winked. "Slim, Lo-" I stopped as I remembered what he dad called him. "Rex. Rex, Slim. Second best mechanic out here." I teased. Slim shook his head in disagreement but extended his hand out to Logan.

I was about to say something before I turned around and looked up at the huge man. I couldn't help my self to swallow slightly in worry as I glared up at him. I almost fell down when he recognized Sophie and I wasn't about to die any more. I sat down on the frame of the car quietly feeling sick again wanting to just relax and not have to get up. As much as I hated to admit, I was starting to think that I might not want to race. I already payed, but this wasn't doing so good.
"Nice to meet you, Slim," I said shaking his hand strongly. I climbed into the car and started her up. "Sophie, if you plan on doing a last minute check or anything like that before I get out there, I recommend that we leave now," I said with obvious urgency in my voice.

Logan had a point. I had to hurry since the race was going to start anytime soon. Slim patted me on the back and said his goodbye. He, too, had to check in with his driver. It seemed that no one was really safe in street racing. Quickly, I popped the hood and rechecked everything. It all looked good. She was ready to race. On the other hand, Logan didn’t seem ready at all. I closed the lid and walked over to the driver’s window.
“You listen to me, Logan Adler. This is Street Racing. It’s not what you’re used to. I know these guys and they love to play dirty if they can. Which they can and will. Remember, no rules which means anything goes.” I took in a deep breath. I was scared for him. I was afraid to lose him forever. “You be careful out there and stay alert.” I stood back up and walked backward as I gave him room to join the other racers.
“Well, well, well. If it isn’t Sophie the Mechanic.” I groaned at the voice. Tennessee Bulldog claimed to be the toughest rider. Bulldog walked around until he was right in front of me. I could smell the cigar smoke on him. Cubans. The usual. “Never thought you would ever show your face here again.”
“I’m not driving, Chihuahua. I’m just the mechanic.” Bulldog turned and looked over at Logan before looking back at me.
“That’s your driver? Ha! I eat kids like that for breakfast.” Bulldog laughed as well as his little posy that followed him around. People down at Street Racing either followed Bulldog or feared him. I was neither. It turned out I was the only one who was never scared of him and refused to down his little band of followers.
“Yes. Pug. That’s my driver. And he’s not like the ones you race. He’s a good racer.” Bulldog gave a chuckle and started to walk off. “Oh and pipsqueak?” I teased. Bulldog glared at slowly turned back around. “Make sure to swallow when you eat his dust.” I smiled and Bulldog stormed off back to his car. Now I was really afraid for Logan.
(Sorry, it took so long. Busy week)

I leaned against the car as she talked and I nodded. "I know, I know. I'm nervous as hell about it," I said biting my lip nervously. I picked my head up seeing another huge guy. From there, I decided I had to work out more other wise I WAS going to get eaten. I looked at "Bulldog" temped to try and eat him, but it wasn't smart especially still being a lot more hurt than I was letting any one know. I sighed loudly and yawned stretching my shoulder before pulling my hat down more keeping quiet.
"I'll be fine, Sophie, promise," I said gently buckling myself down as I started up my car again. I sighed loudly and rested my head on the steering wheel before picking my head up again looking at her softly. I was honestly kind of terrified. I didn't want to be killed and I didn't want to be hurt again, but I was gifted with that to keep up my racing. I was willing to risk that for this.

(Sorry it took so long.)
I was nervous wreck on the inside. Thankfully, no one could really tell. In a few moments, Logan was going to enter a race unlike any other. Bulldog wasn’t one to mess with; especially in a race like this one. He would always cheat injure, or even kill, a driver or two.
Logan got in the car as the other drivers were heading to their marks. He tells me he’ll be fine. One look at Bulldog’s smug look and I wasn’t too sure. I leaned on the window to get closer to Logan. “Alright now look. None of these guys play fair; especially Bulldog. He’s the dirtiest of them all. He could kill you. Be. Careful, Logan. If you get hurt in this race, so help me, you are never racing again. I’ll make sure of that.” I stood back and allowed Logan to get set like the other racers.
“I can’t watch.” I covered my eyes and felt a hand on my shoulder. When I looked up at Tony, I was more surprised than ever. I never thought he would come back either.
“I think you better watch. You never know. It might be a good one too.” Tony winked and I turned back to the race. It still made me nervous. Then again, putting Logan in anything that could cause him harm, especially death, would make me nervous either way.

{{Its okay~!}} Honestly, before, I was terrified when ever I started a race, but the rush felt good. It kept me honest. It let me keep my mind on why I was here and what I was going to do. This time though, it was a different kind of thrill. The thrill of knowing that I could die. The thrill of knowing that I was fresh meat that the others would be wanting to rip apart. The thrill that this was more than a race of cars, but a race for your soul. I grinned savagely as a darker side of me coursed through my veins taking over my senses. Now, I was ready. Now I was going to make them wish that Rex never existed and that Logan would just stay at the tracks for the gentle men.
When the flag dropped, X's engine roared viciously as she bit into the ground and pulled me forward rapidly making me smile more. I didn't care what the others were up to at this point, that was their choice to eat each other. That damn dog was going to be a problem though. I looked in my mirror for a second seeing me pass a few cars, and then Bulldog. He was on the one I was truly worried about as Slim was a mechanic not a driver. I shifted gears on her again as she started to tear up more track spinning faster and gliding across the ground rather then digging into it. If this was a good time as ever to find a harmony between car and man, this was as good time as ever.
I roared around the corner with my hands so tight it was turning them white beneath the gloves and I was starting to feel sick already. Just great, not even close to half way and my injuries were already beating me down from the concussion and other injuries. I pushed forward though tapping the break as I came out of the corner only to slam the gas down into the floor again. X seemed to enjoy this and be feeling the same thrill as she pulled more and more with me than Renegade had ever. I sighed trying to calm down before I felt another car slam into my side taking me off course a little but not enough to matter. Bulldog. That god damn mutt.
I snarled and started getting vicious with it but being gentle at the same time. It was a real skill to do that and I normally couldn't pull it off. Then again normally I wasn't racing for my life and against my father and doctor's commands. I felt another nudge from the other side and I tried to just look over but I didn't see anything. I swallowed hard and turned my whole head finally seeing another one of Bulldog's boys on me again. I looked between the two and then let up the gas and down onto the breaks letting Bulldog take the man out for me. Even over the roars of engines, I could hear his cursing and swearing as he continued to bite at me and X.

The race was on. And boy was it on. Other cars were being pushed off the track by Bulldog and his boys. I kept a close eye on Logan. This wouldn’t end well I could tell that for sure. A few times I closed my eyes, afraid to watch but Tony would cheer and I was forced to move my attention back onto Logan.
I didn’t like this one bit. The good news was that Logan was in the lead. Bad news was that Bulldog was right on his tail with a few of his boys. Logan was being pushed around like some kind of pinball in a pinball machine. I knew this would happen. I just knew it. My heart was pounding and sinking deeper and deeper into my chest. I could even feel the color leave my cheeks. I wanted to faint but I had to keep a close on Logan.
Bulldog raced closer to Logan and before anyone knew it, Logan was stuck between Bulldog and one of his guys. I wanted to scream and yell ‘that’s cheating’ but it wouldn’t have made a difference. Bulldog was all about cheating if he could help it. Now I really couldn’t keep my eyes off of the two of them. Bulldog was going to kill Logan and there was nothing I could do. Finally, Logan hit the brakes right at Bulldog was going in for another hit. Instead, Bulldog sailed across the road and hit the other car. The two vehicles slammed into each other and skidded off the road. Logan was fine. For now. The car was a little beat up but, then again, the race wasn’t over just yet.

I bit my lip hard cursing at everything as my vision got blurry but I kept fighting through it all. Half way done. To me though, I was the half empty guy right then. I was only half way done. I looked over my shoulder again to see Bulldog stuck making me grin but I didn't have time to celebrate. Yeah, congratu-fricken-lations Rex, you took out a guy that wants to kill you. Good job! I kept pushing X more and more knowing that I wasn't doing so hot even though I was in the lead, she was beat up and not happy about it. Something was rattling and when ever you were breaking speed limits, it wasn't a good thing to have.
I took a hand off the wheel to wipe the dust from my eyes that had gathered from me leaving the window down to keep myself from over heating. My coats flapped viciously with the leather collar batting against my cheek and my hair trying to escape my hat. It was terrifying, but you know what, I liked it. I might have been going crazy from it all, but I liked it. Not having safety nets to catch your fall only made it better for me. That scared me actually. I was getting crazy and only one that seems to be able to slap me out of it right now was Sophie. Damn, I missed her. I wouldn't mind getting in a million more wrecks just to be able to finally say that she was my love. To maybe even come home to get beat up and then to her---
I snapped my mind out of the confusion realizing I'd fallen behind some when I got slammed good again. These injuries made it so hard to focus on anything at all. I could barely breath, I was convinced that I was half blind, and sick. Just great. I started actually racing again without much left to go. I sped her forward catching up again with the finish line only about a hundred feet away. I put her in top gear and let her tear it up, in my process again, someone snuck up my blind side and tailed me. After only blinking once, I skidded to the side hard flinging debree every where as I tried to keep on the path I wanted. Ten feet. I had to make this. I sucked in the largest breath my lungs would let me and leveled out the car the best I could before flying across the finish line sideways with a snarl on my face, and barely able to breath. After a few seconds, I finally stopped and sunk down in my seat through my seat belt just letting out a breath of air hurting so much and just dazed. My god. That was the scariest thing I've ever done. Well, second.
I slowly shifted down and started driving her back around to the garage passing Bulldog on the way once the rest of the cars had blown past. Time to get what ever I got and then get the hell out of here, I wasn't in shape for a fight and I didn't want everyone knowing that by the time I got home. I was already going to get eaten for racing, I'd prefer not to die as well.
