I double checked with my mom (the one who homeschooled me and purple)

She says that it not that unusual to be 12 in "HS 1st year"

Because school is "K" through 12
and 7 through 12 is high school.

So if you're in high school 1st year, or 7th grade...
then you would be 12, if you started kindergarden at 5.

High school in America is usually grades 9-12 these days. Mom's still thinking of 30 years ago. xd But if they count 7-8 in the Philippines, that would explain it.

Sorry if we seem to be overly curious, JP. whee Most of us have never been outside the continental US.

well i dont know if k-12 will be approved here in philippines.......in here u will start nursery then kinder then prep.......then grade1-6...HS 1st yr - 4th yr........then u choose ur course...... mrgreen

Interesting, so y'all's system has it's students go through trade schools? Or do mean something else by "course"?

I wonder who else has been outside the US? (of course if you already live outside the US, it doesn't count.)
