[EXAM] Professor Malcolm (Group 6)

The boat's course was still entirely too erratic. Siddie struggled to control it, paddling on alternate sides, but when she came a little too close to a whirlpool, her frantic paddling couldn't keep the boat from being sucked into a dizzy spin.

The boat creaked alarmingly as it spun around the whirlpool. Water was splashing and seeping in more and more rapidly, and no matter how hard Siddie paddled, she couldn't get the boat out of the swirling water. With a series of rapid cracks, creaks, and snaps, the boat simply came apart, no longer able to withstand the stresses inflicted on it.

At least, Siddie reflected gloomily as she kicked clumsily towards the side, she'd been able to pull herself out of the current easily enough, once she no longer had the rebellious boat to control. She hauled herself out, dripping with water and shame, and trudged along the path to the other side, head down, staring at her feet. She didn't want to look at Professor Malcolm; he was probably disappointed with her.

When the notice came Mandy felt pure excitement, after this she'd finally be joining the others in Year Two - she'd be a little bit stronger. As the exam time approached though nervousness overtook, sure she didn't have to pass to move up but this was her favourite Professor and she did remember some of the tales of what happened at exams. She also knew what was in that classroom possibly a bit better than other students.

Which is why she felt perfectly justified in blanching a bit when Professor Malcolm announced they'd be using the water field. Joy. At least she knew how to swim.

Stepping into her boat with trepidation she froze it rocked, a little unsure of how to use one. Sure she'd been on a boat before but not a rowboat.

Sitting, she took hold of the oars and tried to figure out how exactly you row. Splashing the oars in and out a few times she settled on a method, grunting slightly at the effort needed to push through the water. It probably wasn't the most effective or beautiful rowing form but eventually she pushed away from the shore, slowly on her way.

Mandy's rhythm jerked to a stop as she felt something tug sharply at one of her oars. Nearly loosing it she quickly pulled the other into the boat and used both hands to pull back sharply, managing to bring the oar out of the water but not get it loose. Out of the water with it came a tentacle, firmly wrapped around the blade.

Frowning she snapped as it as she continued their game of tug-of-war, "Quit it, give it back 'er. Whatcha gonna do with it anyway, it's much more use to me."

Edel was just hanging around at the other end of the classroom, too afraid to speak to the Professor. The awkward situation was very nicely averted with the arrival of three other students, a ghoul the frost demon didn't and ah, Moure. The ghoul gave him a little, happy wave, wishing him good luck with the test. Alas, Edel wasn't much of a cheerleader type. There was also the feeling that she should let them concentrate on the task and not disturb them. Nevertheless, with hands clasped together and some nervous fidgeting about, Edel was wishing them all the best.

A few minutes into the exam and she was the one panicking. The frost demon hadn't realised how hard it looked. She just barely managed to get through it herself. The sound of the boat cracking and breaking made her breath stop for a moment as she watched in horror as Siddie's boat just came apart. “A-Are you alright?” she asked.

The tentacle stopped tugging quite so hard, seeming to be considering what she said. Taking this she decided to go in for the kill so to speak, "If you let me go I'll chuck one of the club members in the water next meeting. Just, er, don't do anything to bad to 'em ok?"

The tentacle let go so fast Mandy nearly hit herself in the face with the oar. Nodding in thanks she set out rowing toward the far shore again.

Mandy kept a sharp eye on the water as she rowed in silence, feeling a tiny bit of trepidation every time she put her oars into the water. Just because she'd bribed off one tentacle didn't mean others wouldn't try.

Glancing over her shoulder towards her destination she frowned slightly at the collapsed boat and bedraggled student... She really didn't want to end up like that.

As she continued unimpeded Mandy felt herself grow twitchier instead of being reassured. This was an exam, she could just tell this was the quietness before the storm.

She just hoped it wasn't the sharks. They where scary, and bafflingly themed musiced.

It wasn't sharks.

It was a whirlpool.

Mandy felt like hurling from dizziness and the rowboat was creaking rather alarmingly from the forces battering it. Despite her attempts to paddle out she didn't seem to be able to get free, it looked like she'd just be ridding this one out.

Eventually Mandy was released from the whirlpools destructive grip and she rowed on shakily, a little greener and with a slightly battered looking rowboat.

Now she looked almost exclusively over her shoulder, not wanting to row into one of those again. At least the force had given her some good proportion, she was almost there.

The last few meters where tense as Mandy expected anything to come out of the water and stop her from reaching her destination. Instead her rowboat bumped calmly into the shore, grinding to a halt. She glanced around one last time to make sure nothing was going to get her and then with a grin pulled the oars into the boat before clambering out.

She had passed.

Mandy barley resisted the temptation to jump up and down in celebration, instead shooting a happy look at Professor Malcolm. She hoped she'd done him proud.

Oh - she was being asked a question? Siddie looked up and managed a small smile for the other ghoul. "I'm okay," she answered. "Mostly just embarrassed, I guess." She brushed ineffectually at her sopping clothes. "And wet. Thank you for asking," she added.

Well, let's just say that with that answer, all there was left to do was give a genuinely sorry look and manage a smile and then go back to keeping really quiet. Edel was glad that Siddie was okay and in different circumstances, they could possibly be acquainted with each other. Except it was all now just Very Awkward.

Edel turned her eyes onto the last person on the course, which was of course, Moure. The ghoul was now really starting to worry about him.

Moure had finally freed his boat of the shark infested water, and noticed the other participants starting to move around. The ghoul who had crashed into him had sunken (a fate Moure was now worried he might get) and another ghoul had somehow managed to get across. This reassured him that it was in fact possible.

He noticed Edel watching him, and gave her a little nod, trying not to take his eyes off the waters around him for too long. By now, Moure was really glad he only knew one person in the room, considering how badly he was doing.

You know, it probably would have been easier to get across the room if Moure wasn't being STALKED BY THE SHARKS AGAIN.
