Grayson nodded at Shina, noting that the explanation had been a good one. "Yes, that's a good way to say why history's important." He then glanced back toward the two Slytherins that he had addressed. "How about you two? Care to give a reason as to why history is important? Or at leat your viewpoint on history? You can be perfectly honest, here. This is just an open forum, can't get in trouble for stating what you think."

His attention was then diverted to the students that were late. "Please make sure that you take notes, and don't be late for class again. I will let it slide for today, seeing as it's your first day here, but after this, points will be deducted."

"Leo. You can call me, Leo." She shook his hand!!!!! She accepted his gesture of friendship and had introduced herself!! He couldn't believe it! This was the best day of his life!

But then the teacher asked them to pitch into the conversation by stating why history was important. He began to answer, but then Amanda spoke up. His eyebrows shot up as she spoke the plain truth about her opinion on the subject. Really? She would dare tell a teacher plain to his face that she disliked his subject? Despite himself, a smile crept across his face. She was brave, he'd give her that. He admired her fearlessness. That was a good quality in a person. He waited for her to finish, then he spoke up as well. Emboldened by her response, he piped up, "I agree with Amanda here. I see no reason why we should sit around learning what had happened, when we could be learning what can happen."

Shina nodded at the professors words. "Who was Merlin? Salazar Slytherin, Rowena Ravenclaw, Helga Hufflepuff, Godric Gryffindor? Who was Voldemort, and who defeated him?" Shina asked rhetorically.

To the Slytherin students, she asked "Do you truly claim all of that knowledge useless? You are a Slytherin, a member of the house that holds value in lineage. Do you deny your heritage? Is your very name worthless in your eyes?" Shina challenged. "Do you truly have no pride at all in your history?"

Shina shook her head. "History isn't a dead thing. It isn't just a collection of names and numbers. It's a living, growing thing. I don't know your particular ambitions, but in twenty years, a new batch of children will be sitting here, and they could very well be learning your name, your achievements. If you rise high enough, you will become functionally immortal in a way, with your name forever known," Shina told the girl. "And what things are you interested in? I assure you, there is history behind it. Go learn about it! And besides, you are going to be stuck here in history class for the next five years at least. You can sit, and sulk, and spend five years with your fingers in your ears chanting 'history is boring!' or you can give in gracefully and actually try to have a little fun and learn something. Either way, you are going to be sitting in this classroom, so why not try to be something other than miserable?"
