Taima opened the bag the bat dropped on her desk, carefully withdrawing the long, feathered pen before reaching in and pulling out the other two items. She unfolded the slip of paper, frowning at the foreign symbols on it, turning it every which way to make sure she wasn't just looking at it wrong. Well, that didn't help very much. She turned her attention instead to the calligraphy pen. That it was a fancy pen instead of a regular pensnake indicated that its owner took writing somewhat seriously, perhaps not writing only out of necessity but also out of genuine enjoyment for the act. Taima looked around the room, mentally eliminating the majority of the other students as the possible owner of the items on her desk.
Next, she picked up the small minipet collar. So, she was also looking for someone who liked smaller minipets, as opposed to larger ones, and was willing to put them in girly, flower-colored collars. That eliminated...well, almost everyone else on her list, except for one.
Her decision made, Taima placed the items back into the satchel. Confident in her choice, she stood and walked to the front of the room, placing the bag on the chimera's desk.

Five minutes was all the time the teacher had given the students to study the contents, to study their fellow students, and figure out which tote belonged to their respective owners. And the tikbalang immediately regretted not spending any amount of time actually talking to them. As it stood, he was only vaguely familiar with a handful and by vaguely familiar, it meant he only knew their names or knew of them in passing. It became readily apparent that he would have to acquaint himself with more of the student body, if only because it would mean he would actually be able to pass classes such as this.
He opened the tote, studying its contents with furrowed square-root brows. A feather could mean the owner possessed wings but it could also mean they thought themselves a free-spirited individual. If it was the former, that certainly narrowed down the choices for him. But if it was the latter, well, he was certainly out of luck.
The stoppered vial of water definitely threw him for a loop, but at the same time it suggested he should eliminate all the fire-based students present. But what else could it mean? The tikbalang was scratching at the back of his neck in confusion. And what exactly was this small stone? Was there some sort of hidden gem within? Was it placed out of a sense of sentimental value rather than an actual use?
The sound of chairs scraping the floor alerted the horse boil that their five minutes were up and as the other students began making their guesses, Tro quickly closed the tote and stood to make his way towards the student he'd guessed owned the contents. Once placed, he was quick to join the others at the front of the class, moving to stand beside the ghoul whose desk he placed the tote on.
"If the stuff ain't y'rs, I apologize for bothering y'," the horse boil apologized in utmost seriousness.

West's spine straightened suddenly as Darcy's bat posse burst onto the scene. That hadn't been how he'd expected to start class at all. He caught the tote that was flung toward his desk, tugging it open and spilling its contents out in front of him before their teacher began speaking.
The baby bomb and picks clattered out immediately, and West clapped his hands over them to keep them from making any more noise than they already had. He shook the tote. There was still something in there. West shook it a second time, then reached inside to pry out the maceball that clung to the bag's innards.
Okay. Whose things were these?
Picks. He looked around the room, his glare stopping on Roch. West had seen the reaper with a guitar and was pretty sure it was also his weapon. Did reapers with instruments also summon picks to play those instruments with? Maaaaybe. Did Roch like fire? Did he play maceba—
West shot to his feet, rolling his eyes as he stuffed the tote's contents back where they had come from and stomped over to Roch's desk. This was way too much thinking to be doing over some stupid bits of plastic, some fire, and a ball. He paused right before he dropped the bag. There was already a tote on Roch's desk.
There was already a tote on Roch's desk.
There was already a tote on Roch's desk.
His upper lip rose slightly in a snarl. He had no intention of double-toting. If Roch's desk had already been bagged, he certainly wasn't putting his there too. With an irate grumble, West tossed his tote on the next desk over and retook his seat.

Malodore blinked as someone unfamiliar tossed a bag onto its desk and walked away. It didn't have time to investigate the contents right now, though... it had to analyze what it had been given. It opened the small bag and peered at the items within... hmm, candy? Fireball candies... ew. If it had had a nose to wrinkle at them, it would have done so; as it was, it pushed the candies into one corner of its desk with a vaguely displeased sound.
The next item was a magazine, featuring many buxom females. The plague doctor flipped through it with a sense of growing bemusement. Clearly many of the images had been altered - there was no possible way anyone could have breasts of that size and still remain upright and functional without significant back bracing or spinal enhancement. Shaking its head at the lack of respect for anatomical reality, Malodore discarded the magazine as well.
The last item was a simple piece of jewelry. Hm. Well, the easiest thing to do would be to look around and see who was wearing similar items, given that it did not want to question others about either their taste in terrible candy or in badly altered ghouls. Unless it could simply look for an individual who exhibited poor taste in general? Hmm...
Malodore took a careful look around the room. There really weren't that many students it already knew in here, either. Sparrow it knew, vaguely, but it found it hard to believe that the elegant, composed Reaper would read such magazines. The magazine also radiated a sort of determined testosterone, almost desperately so... it seemed unlikely that a ghoul would have included the magazine. Roch's jewelry was silver... West... hm. It could be West, but...
Ah. Yes, it could have been West, but the unfamiliar and rather short red-skinned demon seemed a more likely choice, especially since he was wearing a gold hoop earring that looked identical to the one in Malodore's possession. Pleased, the plague doctor bagged the items again and padded over to the diminutive demon's desk, placing the bag down with a polite nod before returning to its own desk.

Thackery's posture remained tense, eyes fixed on the pouch until it was snatched up and fluttering away with one of the bats. He looked like he might just have a panic attack until the instructions indicated that they would all be returned to their owners, at which point it was visibly obvious that he felt so much better.
Now he could concentrate.
He removed the objects very, very carefully, handling them with the same caution that he'd want applied to his own things, and poked through them with a tentative fingertip.
If the metal feather were not a dead giveaway in itself, the minipet fur certainly was. Thackery knew minipets. He grinned, unable to contain his pride, and replaced all of the little trinkets. When he made his way to Malodore's desk, however...there was already someone there.
That was odd.
He frowned, hesitated, frowned some more, and finally placed it on the desk, fidgeting as he waited. He didn't feel very proud anymore.

After a long, awkward lull, the professor finally rose from his chair. He surveyed the students and their little bags somewhat disdainfully whist smoothing out his coat. He ran one hand through his hair absently, eyeing the objects scattered across everyone's desk. He frowned a little as he came to Maladore's. A mistake. Probably the first of many.
"...Better than I expected, I suppose. Students, feel free to collect your belongings." He sighed, and massaged the bridge of his nose with his fingers, eyes closed. "I hope you all have learned something about your fellows today. Something valuable. I would like you to reflect upon this exercise for future endeavors. Knowledge is power, and all that." Mr. Darcy then held up a sheet of parchment for their inspection.
He glanced around the room.
"There is a stack of these worksheets here on my desk, to help guide your thinking process. You may begin now. I expect proper grammar and paragraph structure; this is not a daycare or an asylum for the inept. I would like a rough draft of your papers, with their subsequent answers, filled out and returned to me by Moonsday morning. I hope you all have a...lovely weekend.." With that, he turned in a whirl of cape to the window behind him. As he eased it open a breeze ruffled the aforementioned stack of papers. He sat on the window sill, carefully lifting one leg out, and then the other, before sliding his body out the window and into oblivion. A cloud of bats against the glow of the moon was the only sign that he hadn't fallen to his peril.
A single bat remained however, climbing over the bottom of the sill. It gently lifted a small sign on the desk, then skittered out to join it's fellows.
