"It's in the centre of Camphoreon," KO replied, "It's called The Prism.... We'd get there fastest by flying, of course." Uuuugh. He would really prefer not to fly but he knew Star would insist, and the pay off ought to be worth the terror of being whisked along far far off the ground. "Or I could drive us if you'd prefer of course Commander." Well it was worth trying, and Star might enjoy a (vague) excuse to talk about his amazing flying skills.

Then turning back to Tambery KO cocked his head to the side thoughtfully. "Didn't he write an official answer in the end? Something about producing a few flat notes?" He couldn't for the life of him remember the exact quote, but showing that he at least knew there was one might win him some points; seemed this girl was heavily into her books.

Star wore a smirk that clearly said they'd be flying. When the red-head resumed speaking to Tambrey his smirk faded and he sighed impatiently, "Yes yes that's all very interesting." He crossed the room, pulled his emblem drapes wide and pushed the window open. In one fluid movement he'd plucked Scream's ball from his belt and fired a red beam out into the evening sky. Apparently they wouldn't be using the front door.

"If you're done flirting, Naos." He cast a smug grin over his shoulder before bringing a long leg up to perch a heel on the windowsill and push himself outside. Scream, a dark shape against the fading desert, swooped around to catch his master. The pair looped around once before coming back to the window. Star looked like he expected KO to hop out the same way he had.

'Prism'. Well. Tambrey had no idea why nightclubs had the names that they had, but 'prism' was a pretty 'nice' name.
Wait.
Transparent, light refracting thing... that was most often used for splitting light into... rainbow colours.
Well then.
"Sounds like you two'll have fun." She couldn't help comment and tried to keep too much hint of amusement away.
Flying- well. Personally Tambrey almost thought that KO could have started with 'want to /fly/ to a nightclub?' and might have persuaded Star even more easily, but she knew the other ex-Galactic seemed to know Star far better than she, er, might even want to.

He was a surprise though; her eyes pretty much 'lit up' as he commented on the answer to the riddle, and along as much the correct lines as she'd ever heard from anyone.
"Yes! A pun one," she nodded "but it got sort o' ruined when it made the book because someone 'corrected' his spelling." She immediately quoted what she remembered "Because it can produce a few notes, tho they are very flat; and it is ne/var/ put with the wrong end in front", grinned, and then shot a look at Star for his comment before he leapt out the window.
"It was very nice to meet you," Tambrey offered a smile at KO "and I meant it, you're welcome to come up here." She made no comment on the oddness of leaving via window, apparently finding it normal that KO might be about to go that way too; apparently too used, now, to Star doing such things.

When Star dropped out of the window KO's ever-present smile faded. "Oh." Well of course. He shouldn't have expected any less. Star knew from their trip here how much he hated flying, and making it even worse by making him take a flying leap would be irresistible to a sadistic b*****d who liked having power over others.

"Oh yea, that was it," he murmured as Tambery related the full quote. Tugging his jacket straight he looked back over at her and smiled again, but the expression looked somewhat artificial and extremely tense. "Nice meeting you too.... Hopefully I'll get the chance to come up here again." Star wouldn't let him fall... would he? "Say... ah... you mind watching until we're gone? Not that I don't trust the Commander's flight skills of course but...." KO trailed off and licked his lips, which had suddenly gone rather dry.

"Well anyway," he smoothed his clothes down again, "Wish me luck." Not giving himself time to pause and lose his nerve he climbed up onto the windowsill and jumped off the edge.

Star could make out KO's nervous expression as the ex-Galactic approached the window. He savored it, proud of how quickly he'd knocked the smugness off the other man's face. He chuckled and patted Scream's neck when KO took his leap of faith. Scream dove and Star flattened himself against the bird. Rather than swoop beneath KO to catch him the way Scream had caught Star, the pair arrived just above the plummeting redhead and a pair of gray, taloned feet caught his shoulders. To Scream's credit, he managed not to puncture or tear any expensive fabric. Somewhere above the dangling man, Star commented, "I wasn't actually sure you'd jump."

With a sudden jerk they shot skyward. The ground pulled away, Scream flipped backward and flung KO toward the stars. In the time it took KO to rise and fall again, Star and Scream had inserted themselves, rightside up, beneath him, where he would land on the waiting spot just behind his lanky teammate.

Tambrey seemed just slightly surprised as she recognized the reluctance in KO, though found herself accepting it with some logic; of course, just because Star always left like a noisy, spindly version of Batman, it didn't mean all the ex-Galactics had the habit of diving out of windows.
She gave a somewhat, she hoped, reassuring smile back, having no belief that Star /would/ drop KO- they seemed to be friends and, if nothing else, KO seemed to do a much better job of making Star /feel/ important than she could imagine anyone else doing.
"Uh sure." She agreed to the request and then, again as requested, offered "Good luck!" just as KO dived out of the window.
The dark-haired grunt stretched as she got up and headed to the window, raising a brow as she watched the pair leaving.
"Have fun you two!" She called, after pulling a bit of a wince at Scream's treatment of KO.
With Star outside, however, and about gone for the evening, she was, behind her, already letting out Treestar and Ella; they could have a nice evening out to play in the safety of the room, without the noisy stickman around.
It was going to be a nice, peaceful evening, she thought happily as she decided she'd reread a certain book.

The desert rushed up at him. He wished he could say his life flashed before his eyes, that at least would have given him something interesting to watch, but all he saw was the ground getting closer and closer and-

Powerful taloned feet clamped around his shoulders, mercifully not tearing his clothes or flesh. He was floundering to think of something droll to say in reply to Star's comment but before he could they shot upwards; the acceleration and the terror froze his mind and-

"Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!"

He was flying up into the air. Star was actually going to kill him. He was going to die, and leave a really disgusting broken corpse. He was falling again now, tumbling helplessly, he really should have got himself a flying type of his own for situations such as this and-

He landed on Scream's back. His mind was blank with shock and instinct took over; he wrapped his arms around Star's bony torso and hung on for dear life.

KO's terrified shout widened Star's smirk. When the other man landed behind him he chuckled and looked over his shoulder, "You seem tense, Naos. You know if I wanted to watch you plummet to your death I wouldn't-" Whatever smug thing he had to say cut off at a loud yelp as KO latched onto him. KO might not be a bodybuilder but he was certainly more muscular than Star could ever hope to be and his frightened clinging was crushing not only Star's torso, but the old Virizion wound stretched across his side. "I'm not going to drop you Naos, let go!!" His smarmy drawl had turned loud and pleading.

Beneath the pair Scream tensed and looked back to make sure KO hadn't attacked his master.

He hadn't expected Star to welcome the clinging (well, if he'd actually consciously given it thought he wouldn't have) but he had expected annoyance or something, not that pleading tone. Puzzled, he loosened his grip a little and then transferred his grip quickly to the tall man's shoulders where he'd been hanging on during their flight over here.

"You seem tense Star!" he called over the rush of the wind once his brain was capable of producing words again. "Don't tell me they've been abusing you down in the tech department?"

He wouldn't be shocked; Star was just one of those people that made people want to kick them, and given he was only a grunt there were plenty with the authority to do that and get away with it.

"Shut up.." Star snarled. One hand found his left side, which he held until the throbbing pain started to fade. "Where did you say this place was?" He was beginning to wonder why he'd agreed to this trip. Sitting hunched at his work table wasn't so bad.

KO gave a slightly nervous laugh. "I can't shut up if you ask me questions Star!" Oh Arceus let them go down soon. "City centre," he went on, "Do you know where the club street is? It's just," he thought for a moment, "south-east of that, the second street over."
PostPosted: Fri Aug 03, 2012 7:13 pm
Star nodded, indicating he knew the general area. Frowning, he glanced back at the other man, "And it wasn't my coworkers." He answered the question KO hadn't asked, "If you must know, it was a Virizion." He turned his eyes froward again to tilt Scream in the appropriate direction. He didn't sound overwhelmingly proud of being injured, but having confronted a legendary pokemon was more boast-worthy than being beat up by the guys in the tech department.

"Well, colour me impressed Commander!" Obviously the encounter hadn't go in Star's favour; if it had there would be a lot more bragging. Still, he supposed surviving getting your arse kicked by a legendary was worth mentioning in the obituary.

Humm, now, what was it Star liked to drink again? KO racked his brains; the man was only an occasional drinker, so his favourite tipple wasn't a common sight in his hand.... Spirits. He was sure it was spirits. He also knew, however, that the spindly once Commander liked strawberries; perhaps a strawberry daiquiri to kick the evening off if further inspiration did not present itself.

Star nodded his agreement. Yes, it was impressive.

The remainder of the flight went pretty quietly. Fortunately for KO, Star wasn't used to doing a lot of talking while he was in the air. It was only on the ground that he yammered incessantly.

With Scream's speed and Star's good navigation, they arrived at their destination in pretty good time. Star managed not to pull any fancy stunts as they spiraled down between the towering buildings and landed on the streetside.

The moment the bird's talons touched the ground KO dismounted and walked away a few paces. Coming to a halt he produced a comb and a compact mirror from inside his jacket with a slight flourish and started to fix his hair, much in the same way as a cat that's just recovered from a nasty shock stopping to wash to prove how unfazed it was. Plus, of course, he just plain needed to fix his hair.

After a few moments comb and mirror vanished and KO turned back to Star, making a sweeping gesture off to his right. "Just down here Star. Don't worry about the line, looks like it's Harry on the door tonight; he knows me, he'll let us right in."
