Personality: Tohru is depicted as polite, optimistic, extremely kind, and selfless. Several others, including her friends Kyo, Rin, and Hanajima, tell her she needs to look out for her own interests and not shoulder everyone else's burdens. However, the girl just can't do something so difficult. She's odd that way, and in many other ways. She is clumsy, naive, childish, and completely unaware of when she needs to accept people's help.
Bio: Believe it or not, Tohru's mother was once a yankee, which is pretty much a gang member. However, she changed a while back and was the best mother to Tohru. Her father died when she was young of a sickness, so she has always worried over people's health and immune system. Her mother taught her when she was younger the stories of the zodiac, and her favorite one was the cat. She felt sad for it since the cat was always left alone since it was tricked by the rat. She then decided to "change her zodiac from a dog to a cat". She has two best friends, Uo and Hana. One is a yankee and the other is a psychic. Together, they've been best friends. However, things changed after one day during school Tohru's mother got hit by a car and was killed. She was sad, but she always smiled. She had to live with her grandfather from her dad's side. However, he had some remodeling to do for the house and asked her to live with a friend until it was done. She didn't want to intrude on any of her friends, so she lived in a tent. However, she was eventually found out by Yuki, a boy in her class who is very popular. He and his cousin, Shigure, offered to let her stay at their house as long as she cleaned it. Considering it was room and board for a job, she accepted. She then met Kyo, who had crashed through her roof when they first met. That's when she found out the Sohma family wasn't normal. She was about to fall, but she fell into Kyo's arms and he turned into a cat. One thing led to another and both Yuki and Shigure turned into a rat and dog. She was very, very surprised and apologetic. That was when she found out the family secret: the Sohmas were cursed. Some are born with the zodiac curse, and if they hug a person of the opposite sex that isn't also a zodiac member, they turn into an animal. She slowly grew accustomed to it, and, after a few decisions, her grandpa let her stay with them. She made many friends out of the Sohmas. Well, all but one mostly. Akito, who is God out of the Zodiac, is cruel, and he hates Tohru. She has no idea why, though. The God especially didn't like the cat, either. Tohru found out why. When Kyo's adopted father came to visit, he took off Kyo's bracelet and he turned into a beast. Tohru didn't know what to do, but she eventually followed him and helped him. Later, she went to visit Akito and told him that she wanted to stay with Shigure, Kyo, and Yuki. Akito somewhat accepted in the end, and she's been living with them since.
