Lena laughed, a pleasant noise like wind chimes. She looked at Pete with a smile.
"I'm sure you aren't that bad," she said. She downed her vodka, placing the glass back onto the counter with red painted nails.
"That sounds exciting. If you can fake it, then you can be it," she said with a wink. It didn't sound overly eloquent, but her voice sounded smooth and dark around the words, like water slipping around stones in a stream.

A low rumbling growl perused past his lips and exhaled out into the world. Thoughts muddled with the grit and grime glory of this world had left a tainted smirch on his soul. He’d been born into a world divided in too many ways to count. He’d grown regal, held honor and duty and family ad pride above all else—or he tried too. Henry had always been a dangerously reckless child; it’d taken years of close guidance with his father to put a muzzle on that mouth of his, lest his lose his tongue. In those years, he’d always been cultured that the purest of blood, made the best of magic. That there was no substitute for good breeding, not only for the purpose of powerful magic, but for the tight knit elite socialists, for the entitlements and the grandeur. To be pureblood, though never truly, because even he wasn’t so blind as to believe that any so called family would truly be in this day and age, it was an impossibility. But, to be pureblood, he knew, meant to honor oneself with grace wisdom.

It was one of the rare things lost upon this world, he realized as his vision swam across the sea of people, that that was a lost ideal to everyone else. These halfbloods all paraded around in their own filth, and proud of it too, he nearly sneered at the thought. But with that tarnished name, came freedom, and he had always so relished in the taste of freedom.

It was a forbidden fruit, one he could never deny. It was his one greatest weakness, after all. And as it was, in his childhood he had soon learned that all the ideals he was taught to follow, were ones that he hated most. He groaned and moaned at operas, couldn’t stomach the sour bitterness of wine, he absolutely despised any sort of rule or regulation, and when it came to religion or court—well—he’d never be found in either if his life depended on it…

It truly was a predicament, and one he should have foreseen. He should have known that that veela, Diane, was going to ruin him, and it had. He’d been forsaken from all family ties, save for his surname, of course. He couldn’t inherit a knut. And all of this, because of one veela, because of one daughter that he would not give up… and now….

He didn’t even know if the child was really and truly even his.

”Yes, yes,” Henry hadn’t even heard the man over his own thoughts as they shifted towards his daughter, the one he hadn’t even seen in seven long years. ”I’m free any morning, club doesn’t open until nightfall…. Where might I find you?”

I'm not afraid
To take a stand
Everybody
Come take my hand
We'll walk this road together, through the storm
Whatever weather, cold or warm
Just letting you know that, you're not alone
Holla if you feel like you've been down the same road

Peter took a generous gulp of his firewhiskey, feeling the burn go down all the way down. "Trust me, I can be pretty bad." He gestured to the dance floor, his gesture obvious. "So, you wanna test that hypothesis about me being bad, or do you just wanna sit and chat for a bit?"

The music pounded in his ears and the lights vibrated, spinning the world around him. The thick sea of flesh swam in unison, thrusting with the carnal roar and delight as alcohol boiled blood churned and gasps collided. He lingered in the flashing light and coiled against the darkness of the shadows as he reached the bar with serpentine grace. The dark fiery mane of Henry Burke flashed a tawny smile at him as a ring of keys was tossed from man to man.

Remington caught the cool metal in his hands easily, the access to the VIP lounge upstairs. He and Henry had a history, a dark one, to be sure, like every other phantom from his past.

Now it was only a waiting game—to see if Dahlia would cater to his call…

He flashed the ring of keys to the bouncers as he slithered past the stairwell and up to the third floor.

Dahlia etnered the club, her bearing arrogant, her stance saying that she was far too busy to talk to anyone other than the person she was here to meet. Unfortunately, the dark man was no where to be found, as far as she could see. She kept her face neutral, a skill from years of practice, toying with other rick socialites. But inside, she was annoyed. A cryptic message, no explanation, simply a request to meet. And when she showed up, he wasn't there. How very aggravating. She sighed, expecting that Remington was waiting on her, likely watching for her. He seemed to sort. So, rather than seek him, she decided to play his game... by making him come to her, rather than lowering herself to asking where he was, or navigating the crowds to find him. She was a lady, from a noble line, married into another... although their nobility was clearly bleeding out more and more with each generation. Still, in name, they were respected, and she was not going to let some shopkeeper make her act like anything less than she was, no matter how intriguing he might be. Standing here was a dare, her telling him that yes, she'd met him... now what did he want?

His tawny eyes targeted her the moment she’d stepped into his lair; her tame rebellion, her very essence and soul seemed oh so terribly out of place here. The rest of the world melted and succumbed to one another, flesh and fire bursting intertwined. He excused himself from the bar for the time being; abiding by the orders left unto him. Long legs whisked him to her side as he checked the gold watch at his wrist; right on time like always. He’d never quite understood the serpent that hovered up above on the third floor, whom he was sure, was peering through the black glass down on them right now.

Sliding up to her side, a carnal smile wove onto his features and sharp canines glinted in the light. ”There you are my dear, we’ve been expecting you.” His low growling voice sifted close to her ear while the music pounded behind them, berating them forward. ”My madam, right this way,” he offered the crook of his arm for her to gently take as he led her past the crowd, each and every patron ceased and moved to make way for them. He stopped just short of a marble staircase. ”He’ll be waiting for you at the top.”

Dahlia glanced to the man who's approached her, his demeanor telling her that he was the person in charge of this establishment. She barely kept herself from expressing her distaste when he gave her that look, so heated and primal. How utterly uncivilized. There was something dark about him, something unsettling. She rather reluctantly placed her hand on his offered arm and allowed him to lead her to the stairs. When he informed her that Remington would be upstairs, she nodded, again having to control her actions and not roll her eyes. This entire set up was so over the top... so very Remington. He was all about power, after all, and the struggle for it. This was a show of power. I know people, it said. She made her way up the stairs, wondering what had made him decide to invite her here at such a late hour, on such short notice. She wondered if he thought she wouldn't show. Most people would have assumed as much. But, here she was. She aimed to surprise him with that.

Remington stood, his silhouette was shrouded in the dimly lit and regal elegance of the room, to the side, a roaring fireplace danced with the shadows in tune with the crack and embers of the splitting logs within. Exotic, rich dark wood marbled the VIP lounge, where opulent leather arm chairs and the finest of leather décor enriched the establishment. The cloak of his family proudly hung off of his broad shoulders, and the embellished coat of arms of the English Bullmastiff had been emblazoned in the thick fabric. Behind him, he heard the click of the door swishing open at the behest of the bouncer that waited outside.

He spun, slow and deliberate, shadows entangling on the flesh of features where his stubble accentuated the darkness clinging unto him. The barest flicker of a smile had escaped his lips when he’d caught her in his trap. Gold eyes ravaged hers, dwelling deep within the pool of her soul as he never broke contact with her eyes as he gestured with open arms for her to join him within the heart of the establishment. ”I hoped you would show,” his tongue was delighted to breathe out the boiling danger growling deep in his throat.

His eyes flashed, hungry, but for what? ”You’re a woman of grace and class,” he began, swirling a crystal glass of scotch in his hands. ”But I see a fire in you even after the chains of life have given you…

“We’re free here,”
he carried on to explain this particular setting for this particular evening. ”Our words are safe… and your fire is too.” He insisted simply. That stern, serious and solemn look etched into his dark and regal features expressed no hint of humor, no amount of mistaken can be taken from his statement. He did see a fire in Dahlia, a fire that beseeched she was deserving of something more. A fire, which, he too, had burning in his belly for what he knew he deserved….

”I hear your husband’s been patronizing with that competitive fool, Montague…” He sifted gently, quietly, as if he stirred no waters through his tidal wave. ”How are you and your husband?” Gold eyes flickered as they studied hers deeply, and, quite earnestly.

Dahlia's eyes narrowed with interest when Remington greeted her. Free? So that was his game, then? To have her relax, open up? She smiled at him, and his words, obviously meant to seduce her into opening up with him and spilling her secrets. Not that she was opposed to doing so; whatever the man might be, telling him anything could hardly hurt her. She knew that the gossips already whispered of her marital trouble, telling stories and making guesses as to what caused the two of them do drift apart. Being the proper pureblood that she was, she'd portrayed herself as cold, indifferent. She doubted the rumor mill was painting her in as good a light as her husband. Anything she said to Nott could only help her, seeing as her issue with her husband and son was that they were proving to be sympathetic to the less than worthy masses. Surely a word here or there, spilling the secrets of her husband's tolerance, would offer her favor when the story spread? When he mentioned Wesley, her eyes flashed dangerously. He had been spending time with Montague, which irked her. Not so much because she had a problem with the family, but more because of the fact that he was doing to to ensure that their son had somewhere to go that was far away from her. Her lip curled in distaste. "They've been meeting for lunch on occasion... We were, as a family, invited to their home, but Wesley didn't feel the need to inform me of the invitation before declining... and then making time to see the man without me." That damned bloody fool, thinking she wouldn't find the letter. She only wondered what he'd said to convince Montague that she would be unable to attend a dinner. She'd hardly been bedridden. Rather, she'd been out and about more of late than ever before, her home feeling like a prison. Those walls... she sensed that her son would turn on them, take to a halfblood or, God forbid, a muggleborn, either for friendship or romance. And here she was, trapped in that home, with that child tied to her name. What a disgrace. She sighed, lightly rubbing her temple. "He is proving himself more and more beneath my notice each day. Were I to have met him as he is now, I would never had agreed to our first date, let alone his marriage proposal." Truth? She might still, if she'd lacked other suitors (which she had... she'd been pretty enough, but not as dull and dim-witted as many of the other Slytherin girls, and so not as easily controlled). She probably would have still married him, yes... but soon thereafter, something might have... happened to him. An accident. And she would have been left with all the nobility his name offered, and the money tied to it. And no bloody awful child to rear. She sighed, somewhat wistfully. How lovely that might have been... to live a life of luxury, without the annoyance of her husband and son. Bliss.

An imminent threat hung perilously deep in the bitter recesses of his throat, dangling on the tip of his tongue and dancing with the taste of forbidden fruit. It was simply too sweet to ignore especially when she'd waltzed so easily into his web, so willingly, nearly manipulating him with a will all her own that he was almost surprised. He delighted himself in the ease of the leather, slid ever so graceful as a wisp of smoke across from her, and waited. Rocks of ice clinked together in his glass in the momentary silence, the music from down below was a mere hum drowning through the walls. ”Montague, hn,” he sneered. ”I'd keep an eye on them if I were you,” he warned her so simply, like talk of crumpets over tea.

Of course, there was more to be said and any fool could see it, but how much did he know? And how much was he willing to let on, and for what price? Remington was always a man who collected his debts of any form. However, rather surprisingly, to be sure, he tipped his head and unbridled those treasured secrets of gold. ”Their youngest son has a nasty little rumor plaguing his name, it would be a shame if it were to be true.” Remington offered the sincerest shrug and paused to drink.

”Children,” he sighed, forlorn and eyes glazed, ”The sacrifices we make, the troubles we endure, and sometimes.... For what? Sometimes, it feels like for nothing.” He admitted impassively, and the reflection in his eyes saw his daughter waiting for him back home.

”My nephew tells me that the young Montague has found himself comfort in the arms of a bold young girl, a half-blood, a McHalen,” he explained imploringly. He'd always kept close eyes and ears on his enemies, and the Montague's were a notorious lot drowned in his spiders. He knew he hadn't the need to dwell on the severity of the situation, the Daily Prophet had seen fit to display her life in black and white, with murdered parents for their treason against blood. ”Your son seemed to follow suit.”

Another drink, it couldn't be denied. The burn stung and yet, it brought peace all the same, much like his dear daughter. Still so young, but so very much the cunning Slytherin that it would break his heart if the letter never came.

Dahlia's eyes narrowed, flashing with anger when Remington implied that her son had begun a relationship with some halfblood. Her first instinct was to deny it, to defend her family name, but it was quickly overridden by the knowledge that this particular rumor was probably true. Her lip curled. It was the filthy brat he'd saved first year, she was sure of it. He had a soft spot for the mongrel. Well, this was simply unacceptable. And for once, Wesley would agree. He might not be a proper pureblood, but he certainly didn't believe in the bloodlines mixing. Halfbloods, to him, were worse than mudbloods, proof that some foolish wizard had sullied his line with that of a muggle. For once, they would be united. Still, she was angry. How had this happened? How had her son grown into such a fool? She'd tried her best, and yet, here she was, hearing the rumor that he was dating some filth. How utterly embarrassing. "I suppose your nephew is a reliable source? Or is he one of the many who start such rumors to stir trouble?" Dahlia wanted desperately to believe that it wasn't true, but she couldn't help but feel that it was. But she could hope.

A toothy smile suddenly spread thin to greet the snide curl that had set on her own lips. He honestly couldn’t have expected a better reaction, not that he was a betting man but, the challenge was always welcome. He tried to deny himself the smug satisfaction of maintaining the upper hand (he was never quite as sharp against a woman with fangs,) and his past was to blame for it. Impassive, callous nature had chiseled a hardened and unyielding statue, like scales coiled over flesh to protect him. Suddenly, however, he was caught with a question he hadn’t quite anticipated, but, it would have been the very same he would have asked if he were in that position. ”I assure you, my lady, I would never jeopardize my own flesh and blood.” His tongue clicked, almost impatient, but really, he was a little off his guard. How inherently malicious and cunning to try and discredit him, hell, he was starting to enjoy her more and more than he ever thought he would. And they hadn’t even gotten to the best part yet.

”If evidence is what you need,” he implied with a subtle shadow of a shrug before quickly changing topics. The rocks of ice clinked in his glass, slowly melting under the hardening pressure from the palm of his hand. ”However, all that aside, I’m quite curious as to what’s led you here to me. I’m not that charming, am I?

"....I was almost sure you wouldn't show.”

Dahlia fought to keep from grinding her teeth, to cool her reactions. She saw a flash in his eyes, something off. She'd... insulted him? Really? That... almost cooled her off. He was offended. Getting a genuine reaction out of him, however small, was refreshing. But then she realized that, his reaction meant that yes, her son was, in fact, dating filth. She curled her lip at the thought. How had her genetics been drowned out by those of her husband? Why was the regal lineage she offered her son so easy to throw away? It was incredibly frustrating, not to mention confounding. Her mind immediately began crafting plans, working on a way to separate Damien from his little girlfriend long enough to ensure that this nonsense stopped. She'd allowed Wesley to take over the raising, and now, here they were. It was unacceptable. She'd told Wesley, multiple times, that tolerance of any kind for those beneath them would only open the door to them. That teaching their son to be anything other than proud of his blood and intolerant of anything less would end this way. It needed to stop. They needed to find a way... if she confronted Damien, he'd merely defy her. No, she needed to get to the girl. She needed to ensure the brat wanted nothing to do with her son... and the best way to get to a teenage girl was to embarrass her. A plan formed. But, she'd need help. Her husband couldn't know what she was doing, and she didn't have an owl of her own.

Her eyes widened, and she smiled at Remington coyly. Her accomplice was right in front of her, she just needed to secure him. It shouldn't be too hard; he seemed like the type who would enjoy such a plot. And their game of cat and mouse had been enjoyable thus far. Getting his help wouldn't be too hard. Her expression turned playful, her eyes bright.
"Don't doubt yourself, dear Remington. You needn't worry that you are lacking in charm; I daresay you've got it in spades." But why had she come? Because she enjoyed their game? If she admitted to that, she'd admit to the game, and then it would be over. It was no fun playing once you admitted that was all you were doing, after all. She pursed her lips, then smiled. "I told you before, any excuse to get out of the house is welcome lately. Particularly when I'm being invited out for a drink. Which you haven't offered me yet, by the way. Rather neglectful of you." Her tone was teasing, playful. And she did rather want a drink. It might make the news that her son was defective a bit easier to bear.

”Ha,” he smiled, batting a coy and golden gleaming eye that danced with laughter. The click of frozen rocks clattered together in the brink of amber rush. ”They say the trouble with the world is that fools are always so sure of themselves, but wiser men, well,

“They’re so full of doubts.”
A soft smirk had emerged from the depths of riddled pleasure. An enigmatic veil so close to the heart kept the curtained sun away, and there he dwelled, a snake in the deep slithering at the heels of the brave and the damned. Sharp canine’s fanged flesh as lips slid into an endearing smile, where the laughter and cries were kept at bay. Who knew what truths dwelled in the back of that throat?

”There’s enough grief in this world without always getting into who’s to blame.” He spoke; voice ethereal and eyes adrift at sea. He hadn’t need worry of what troubles dwell in that cunning mind of hers, he could guess, and he knew he’d win. ”Truly, can you blame me for not wanting a woman with liquid courage, and armed, to receive such news.” His flippancy was amiable, at best, with underlying intentions. Though he hadn’t hesitated to rise from his seat and venture across the room where a glass was procured, amber fire siphoned from the mouth of a bottle and in no time, would soon reach the hand of Mrs. Edgeworth.

An internal debate raged in warfare as he took his seat; he knew her secrets, the few that he’d found, and yet, what did she know of him? He was almost compelled to dare her to know more, but this was a game, was it not? He couldn’t play a game from both sides, after all, it would be—could it be possible? He’d always known a great leader never asks ‘which’, but, ‘both.’ But what did he want from her? Even he didn’t know. At least… Not yet. Not yet. ”Then consider this the little vacation you’ve so needed.” Gold eyes flickered with a knowing wink and the raise of a glass in cheers.

Garret walked into the bar, annoyance and irritation evident in every line of his body. How was it that one woman could cause him to nearly tear his hair out? Okay, so maybe he was walking a very fine line, a line that as soon as it was discovered he'd crossed, could cost him his job. He couldn't help it though. He was probably on the rebound from losing Sarah, and when she showed up, it almost felt like falling into a familiar dance. She would yell, he would yell back, and then they would end up making up afterward. It was like an addiction, one that he had thought himself broken of years ago, but evidently hadn't.

Sitting down at the bar, he folded his arms on it, looking over the menu thinking he just wanted to get pissed tonight. Beverage choices weren't bad, though he did recall Peter saying something about tequila knocking someone on their arse. Sighing, he looked around for the bartender, signalling for a tequila. He really needed to probably open up a tab tonight, but he wasn't sure if he wanted to spend that much.
