Yuri blinked at that reply and looked Dove up and down, "Yeah, I bet."

With a smirk on his face, he then turned to Luke, hearing the uncertainty in his voice.

"C'mon," he said, putting a hand on the boy's shoulder. With that he started leading the way back into town and towards the firing range.

Dove's face remained calm and smooth as Yuri gave her the up-down, and she said nothing in reply.

When the man started off again to lead them to the firing ranges, she followed, motioning for her Pokemon to follow her while she shared Luke's sentiment, she said nothing, instead focusing on the good she hoped to come from the new knowledge. Besides, she wasnt wild and uneducated. A gun could only do as commanded, and she knew already she would keep a clear mind. The consequence of not doing so was too terrifying.

It was as good a time as any, he supposed, moving to follow. A gun was a tool as much as a sword was - though to be frank, he wasn't particularly fond of the idea of turning live steel on a foe either. Hurting others was in general nowhere near his priorities, but it did act as an unfortunate side effect to protecting the endangered.

It wasn't a far walk, and eventually they came to said firing range. At some point after coming back from Kodo, Yuri had acquired his license and purchased a black hand gun. Of which he pulled out when they stepped into the outdoor range.

It was there that he proceeded to explain the basics of how a gun worked, and that they would need to get a license themselves if they wanted to get their own.

For safety purposes, Pokemon hadn't been allowed to enter. Thus Repede and Astal were hanging outside the perimeters of the range, well out of sight.

Dove called her Pokemon back as they approached the range, though she left Lovey out with Astal and Repede as they entered.

She listened attentively as Yuri explained the mechanics behind the weaponry, glancing around only once at the few others around them. The material was familiar, and not too difficult to store away, as she had been sure to do what research she could before seeking out Yuri in search of lessons. It didnt seem to hard to obtain a liscense, and te thought was both terrifying and reassuring. It would be nice to be legally registered, but if it was done so easily, what others might have that power?

Her brows furrowed as she looked to the gun in his hand, and her mind jumped to their encounter with Falen and Izaya. A marvel, how much power one could have with something so small in their hand...

Curious, she looked to Luke, wondering how the information was being received on his end, before asking, "So what now?"
PostPosted: Thu Jun 13, 2013 3:32 pm
Luke listened with due attention to the given explanation, mentally repeating the information back to himself to better keep it in his memory. It was awfully easy to personify the weapons, but in the end they were just manmade tools utilized towards the purpose of the ones wielding them; they could only do as much as the responsible individual allowed. The danger, then, was in being unaware of others' intents and motivations - something much further outside of anyone's scope of control.

The open-ended curiosity from Dove was met with a brief hesitation, "Applying theory, I guess?" They could study structure and usage forever, but it didn't seem that one could ever really be comfortable with the idea of holding a gun before having one in hand.

It had been a few years since Yuri last used a gun, but going over the information was all good for him as it brought it all back to the forefront of his mind.

At Dove's question, and Luke's comment, Yuri lifted the gun wordlessly and aimed at the distant target. There was a series of loud bangs as the man fired a few rounds, hitting the target but a bit off from where he'd been aiming.

After a few moments he lowered the gun again.

"Guess I'm a little rusty."

Though the immediate sound startled her, and she flinched away a bit, Dove locked her eyes onto Yuri, studying the way he held himself as he fired a few rounds before looking to the target. Hm. A chill ran down her spine.

At his remark, she offered a half smile, then looked to Luke, wondering if the sounds had triggered the same memories she now tried to push back.

Luke watched the demonstration, alert of nuances in posture. He really hated that sound. He hated the way people used it to intimidate others, to bully them into compliance under threat of injury or death. Absolutely despised it. It felt in part hypocritical to use the technology he so hated in combat against the same. Fight fire with fire, as the saying went - but there was another that said violence begets violence. Who got to define the line between violence and defense?
PostPosted: Thu Jun 13, 2013 4:40 pm
Well, he supposed neither of them had anything to say. Thus Yuri turned to look at the both of them, holding out the gun.

"Sooo... who wants to go first?"

Dove looked to Luke silently, tilting her head a little as she tried to place his expression, and wondering if he would move first.

She definitely didnt mind.
PostPosted: Thu Jun 13, 2013 6:13 pm
Dove's look to him was interpreted as an expectancy that he make the first move, and so he did so, accepting the offered firearm and holding it with a firm caution. It was much heavier than its small size suggested, its shape made to be comfortable in one's hand. He took up a place parallel the target, adjusting his stance as he remembered seeing it and taking time to align the sights to the best of his limited abilities. Though he was entirely conscious of pulling the trigger, and though he had heard the sound before, the report startled him, giving rise to a persistent anxiety.

Letting Luke take the gun from his hand, Yuri stepped aside so that the red head could take a shot at it in the fullest sense. When the boy fired, he blinked once as he managed to hit the target but... well it wasn't exactly a great shot. But then the kid was only just learning, it was his first attempt after all.

However, looking back to Luke, Yuri could see the apprehension.

"You all right?"
PostPosted: Thu Jun 13, 2013 6:48 pm
While he hadn't felt her look to be expectant, Dove watched quietly, giving the red head an encouraging smile as he took the gun and fired. It faded quickly, however, giving way to an expression of concern further justified by Yuri's question.
She state quiet still, letting Yuri's handle it. There was no way she was getting involved so readily if he was upset, not when someone more capable was there, especially someone who had rescued him from her attempts previously.

"I'm fine," he said at length. "I just… don't really like this kind of thing." There was a conflict of interests; it was difficult not to imagine the bullet tearing flesh and muscle, an idea he detested despite knowing that that was exactly the reason he had had an interest in learning to shoot in the first place. This couldn't be the best way to protect people. After ages and ages of human advancement, how was it that destruction had won out as the best way to resolve disagreement? But their options seemed awfully limited, given that their enemy had few reservations against attacking to kill.

He exhaled in a light sigh and regarded Dove, "Here, wanna give it a go?" He didn't intend to keep her waiting through all his doubts and hesitations.
