"If you believed strength alone decides a person's fate..."

Shou couldn't get very far with the Prince constantly pecking at attire, presentation and impressions. It practically gave him a headache. "How can you just ignore it? You need to change your clothing as well. Maybe you'll meet a nice female knight from another country, wherever they may be." "I'll wear this. There's nothing wrong with it at all. I'm dressed as all respectful knights of Sydion are, and that is all I need. I can not even contemplate why you worry so much about your clothing. Just go in your normal ceremonial dress." "I'm no drag queen Shou! Be serious."

"Dress; noun. A form of attire or uniform. You always wanted to leave your lessons and I remembered everything from them." Half the time Shou couldn't tell if he was serious or playful in his personality. Much of the time it was playful but there were many times he was serious for no reason at all. "Quite acting all flamboyant and just decide already. If you want to make such a good impression we should be there early." Shou closed the book and set it down as he stood up, adjusting his clothing.

"Then I shall gladly show you where your logic fails with my past."

After coming to terms with herself in the mirror, Lucille sighed and turned to the maids, picking the closest one and eyeing her. "Okay, I'm ready," she said, "Please take me to my father." The maid curtsied and walked towards her bedroom door. Lucy turned to the other maids. "As for the rest of you, I thank you for your hard work. You're dismissed for the evening." She spun back to her door, having no trouble walking in the heels chosen for her. As she walked out her door, the maids followed and scattered. Within a few minutes, she was making her way through different hallways until she was nearing her father's office. She wondered why the hallways were so vacant, but she figured the servants had directed all suitors into their own suites for the time being before the announcement. "Word has it the ballroom is already filling up," said the maid quietly, her eyes turning to gauge Lucy's reaction. She simply looked towards the windows. This is actually happening, she thought, her hands folded in front of her. As her gaze landed on the sun, she found it beginning to set.

When she arrived at her father's office, the maid left her at the doors. Lucy stepped forward, knocking gently. After a moment of silence, she decided to enter anyways. Inside she found her father sitting as his desk, his reading glasses on, papers scattered in front of him. When she stepped inside, he looked up and smiled. "Ah, Lucille, how lovely." He stood, taking his glasses off and setting them on the desk, walking over to her. "You're the spitting image of your mother when she was that age." He was beaming now, and he took her hand and spun her slowly, and his face softened. "Truly Lucille, you look so very beautiful. Such a shame your mother couldn't be here tonight. She's still away on business, but she'll be here by the end of this week." Lucy's mouth turned down in a small frown at the news, and she nodded. "I know honey, you would've liked for her to be here."
Deciding it best to move onto matters he wanted to discuss, he brought her to his desk. "So, I just wanted to chat before we did this," he said, trying to seem nonchalant. "How are you feeling? Have you met any of the suitors yet? Or have you hid yourself the whole day?" he half joked with her, but she looked up at him when she responded.
"I'm not sure how I feel, now that this is actually happening. Scared, I guess." The king frowned at the thought, but continued. "Suitors?"
"I met one. But only for a minute. That was all." She looked away, once again reminded of Shou. "Well, I suggest you start thinking about who you'd like as a husband earlier rather than later. It'll be easier in the long run for you." The king was surprised on how honest Lucy was being with him. Usually by now, she was cracking a joke or making fun of him. "If you need me, I'm here." He placed a hand on her shoulder, and she looked up at him for a second before nodding. "We should head to the ballroom soon, okay? Are you ready?"

((OOC; masquerade or no? Just had the thought after remembering the character mention a masquerade ball the first time her hand was available.))
"If you believed strength alone decides a person's fate..."

As the Prince fell down to using 'eenie meenie miney mo' to pick out from the three attire, Shou moved over to the full body mirror in the room, making sure his clothes were adjusted properly. He turned around as the Prince started lifting the selected set onto himself. "Would you mind helping with the ties Shou?" he asked, heaving it up and holding it. Shou walked behind and started tying the strings tight, to keep them in place without regard to the Prince's own comfort. "Ouch! Easy there, I can't breath like that!" "Would you rather wear a corset? I'm sure the maids would have some available, even though they've dropped in fashion."

"You don't know anything about fashion Shou!" "Neither do you Keril" He acted more as the Prince's friend rather than a knight now. Once the initial ties were done, Shou stepped away and towards the door as the Prince was expected to do as much himself as possible. "In your indecisiveness, we're late. Let's go." "Fine fine. After you!" the prince said excitedly. Shou held open the door as the Prince stepped outside. Locking it with their key, the two walked towards the ballroom where the celebration and announcement would take place.

While still mostly empty, there were plenty of other suitors in the ballroom. Their ages ranged from almost children to middle aged men. With the size of the world, there were only so many thrones passed down in a generation compared to the size of the inheritors. There were even press carrying cameras, notepads and recording mics to catch the rumored announcement. Most of the suitors were socializing between one another, and their accompanying staff were easy to identify. While everyone's dress was different, Shou could tell from the different attitudes who was royalty and who wasn't. Shou glanced up at the grand staircase where he guessed the King would make his announcement, and introduce his daughter and her hand when the night was right. For now however, the sun was just beginning to set.

"Then I shall gladly show you where your logic fails with my past."

"One more thing," the king chimed in, turning back to one of the many shelves behind his desk. He pulled out one of the drawers and reached in to pull out two masks. Lucy paused then, her mouth open slightly in confusion. Her eyes stayed on his hands, which separated the two masks. In his left hand, a black mask, lined with silver. In his right hand, a gold and blue mask, its detailing quite exquisite. He extended his right hand to her, and her gloved hands took the mask gingerly, holding it and just taking in its beauty. "It's gorgeous," she said after a minute of silence. Her eyes turned back to her father. "You requested a masquerade last time, so I took the liberty of including that in the invitations." At the sudden reveal, Lucy's mouth turned up slightly in the tiniest smile. "Thanks old man," she said suddenly, watching her father's face flare up. She laughed then, and at the sound, her father calmed.

"You are to act like the proper lady I raised you to be," her father said then, "And I'll say it again. The sooner you find a suitable husband, the better." With that, he eyed her to show her he was serious. He then motioned for her to put on her mask, so she ever so carefully slipped the mask over her eyes, tying the string behind her head, her father doing the same. A servant entered, and the king locked eyes with him and nodded at the man. The servant bowed and exited, moving to the ballroom to prepare the introductions. The king turned back to Lucy.
"Ready?" he said, taking her by the shoulders. "Boy, I wish your mother could see you."
"She will," Lucy said, "Apparently the ballroom is abuzz with the paparazzi. There'll be plenty of cameras on us."
"On you my dear," the king replied, holding out his arm to her. She took it, and the king walked her to the door and down a few halls to the ballroom hallway. They climbed a flight of stairs to the next floor, passed a few doors and stopped in front of two grand double doors. When they stopped, the king turned to her and smiled with all the charm one would expect from the king. Placing a reassuring squeeze on her shoulder, he turned away and stepped towards the doors, either side of them guarded. Behind the doors, Lucy could hear the presenter setting the tone for the evening.

"Ladies and gentlemen, can I have your attention please?" the man said, "We here in the capital thank you all greatly for joining us tonight. We have guests from every corner of the kingdom. We invite you to enjoy all the pleasantries we have provided for you this evening." Lucy's hands began to shake. "It is now that time in the evening that we would like to introduce the man who brought you all here." And then with great rigor, "It is my absolute greatest pleasure to present to you King Nicolaus Roderick Lawrence Bellmont!"
On que, the guards opened the doors, and Lucy's father stepped forward, greeted with a roaring applause from his guests. Lucy began to panic slightly, and she could do nothing but wait while her father said a few words.
After a minute of her father talking, Lucy heard him mention her. "Now, we didn't gather here this evening to celebrate me. We are here to celebrate my daughter and her search for a husband!" The crowd applauded. "This following month will be filled with various events held by myself to honor and assist my daughter in finding the man best fit for her. More details will come on that later. For now, we shall rejoice! Tonight is about enjoying yourself, for the real challenge awaits you later." He paused and Lucy knew what was coming next. She was shaking, but she stepped forwards anyways, only a few steps from the doors now. She set her hands at her sides and took a deep breath, glancing over herself now for good measure. Even if she wasn't in the ballroom currently, she could almost feel the world on edge, eyes staring, cameras rolling.
"And now, of course, it is my greatest pleasure and honor to present my lovely daughter, Princess Lucille Verity Francine Bellmont!"
Again on que, the doors opened before her, and Lucy stepped into the bright lights of the ballroom, greeted like her father with thunderous applause. Her eyes adjusted, and she saw her father before anything else. His hand was held out for her, and she took it gently, her father steering her to the railing overlooking the ballroom.
She finally took it all in. The people. The decorations. The cameras. The cheering. All eyes on her. She felt like fainting at the sight, but she stood her ground and took a deep breath, gazing over the crowd, seeing if she could find any familiar face among them, but then realized they were all masked.

"If you believed strength alone decides a person's fate..."

"This thing just doesn't feel right. This is why I hate masks." the Prince grummbled, fumbling with the mask over his face. "It was your decision for masks." Keril's mask was half black and half white, mirroring Shou's which was a simple design of half silver half black mask that covered the eyes. Everyone had a mask on, it was the point of a masquerade after all. Not knowing the true identity of the person you'd be dancing or talking with, the not letting the truth of who everyone was ruin the enjoyment. The two walked past several groups of knights, servants, suitors and guests conversing and gossiping about the Princess and her appearance. What she'd wear, if she would actually be identified or if she would even show up at all.

More people filled up the ballroom to make it seem more like a party than small clumps of guests. Everyone went silent and turned their heads in the same direction as a microphone could be heard turning on. It was one of the palace's higher servants who was beginning the entrance for the King and Princess. "Ladies and gentlemen, can I have your attention please?" the man said, "We here in the capital thank you all greatly for joining us tonight. We have guests from every corner of the kingdom. We invite you to enjoy all the pleasantries we have provided for you this evening. It is now that time in the evening that we would like to introduce the man who brought you all here. It is my absolute greatest pleasure to present to you King Nicolaus Roderick Lawrence Bellmont!"

The entire ballroom clapped and bowed as the King entered. He began talking about how glad he was that everyone arrived, hoping they enjoyed themselves and such before speaking about the matter all the suitors were waiting for. "Now, we didn't gather here this evening to celebrate me. We are here to celebrate my daughter and her search for a husband! This following month will be filled with various events held by myself to honor and assist my daughter in finding the man best fit for her. More details will come on that later. For now, we shall rejoice! Tonight is about enjoying yourself, for the real challenge awaits you later." "We will win her hand Shou. I can feel it." Keril said to the knight. His voice was serious, but before Shou could think further on it, the king continued. "And now, of course, it is my greatest pleasure and honor to present my lovely daughter, Princess Lucille Verity Francine Bellmont!"

The princess walked out in a blue and creme dress with a mask to cover her identit as the ballroom erupted into applause before coming to a silent moment for everyone to bow and curtsy. Even though her true face was covered with the mask, all the suitors began whispering to one another while glancing to the Princess. Even Yureno succumbed to their gossip. "Target sighted. I will make her mine Shou, I vow it." "Be cautious, you have competition my lord." "But I will be the one to take her, no matter what. And with you by my side it will be so!" Yureno patted his friend and knight on the back, giving a large smile as he looked at Shou.

"Then I shall gladly show you where your logic fails with my past."

Taking another look around, Lucille swallowed the lump in her throat. After everyone had finished applauding, her father turned to the crowd again to boom, "Let the celebration begin!" So many people, she thought, and the crowd went back to their conversing and festivities. She felt a slight tug on the hand her father was holding. She turned her head to him, and saw him gesturing to follow him down the grand stair case. Only, Lucy didn't want to, because going down the staircase meant talking to a bunch of stranger and being crowded with suitors. It made her sick. "I think I'll stay up here," she said then, and her father almost laughed out loud. "Don't be ridiculous! Come now," the man said, pulling a little harder, and Lucy finally gave in.

Slowly descending the stairs, when she made it to the bottom floor, she already had guests waiting for a conversation. Thankfully it was people her father knew, and he introduced them all before diving into talking with them. However, convo after convo continued with different sets of people, until her father decided to seperate himself from Lucy. "Make some friends," he had whispered in her ear before escorting some guests elsewhere. When he turned away, Lucy's panic set in again, for she would have to deal with stupid people by herself now.

She only had to look around for a moment before she was tapped on the shoulder, and when she turned, she found a young man smiling at her. After introductions, she found out he was a prince from the western boarder, and she continued mindless chit chat with him before another butt into their conversation to ask for a dance. She excused herself, curtsying deeply, before her hand was taken and she was escorted to the dance floor, introductions surfacing once again.
This continued for a while, introductions, chit chat, more introductions, some dancing here and there, a glass of wine. She eventually found herself bored, but she was sure not to show it. In the back of her mind, every time she ran into another suitor, she thought of Shou. He had been polite, courteous. They couldn't all be bad, right? She had to at least give them a chance before judging them, and Lucy seemed to be quick to decide if she liked someone or not. Too chatty... too short... too young... much too loud, she thought. All the while, and oddly enough, she found herself waiting to find Shou again. Surely he must come forward to introduce himself again, right? Eventually, she told herself.

The King freed everyone to begin the celebration after the applause ended. The Princess began to walk down to the staircase, completely enchanting Yureno. "You're acting like a child at an ice cream shop. Chin up Keril." He patted Keril's chin up as he turned to walk away. He wasn't as interested in introducing himself and trying to take the Princess's time. After all, with all the suitors, a knight had no real reason to speak to her. Yureno on the other hand had a desire to take her, even if he didn't truly express it. Shou stopped to watch the Prince with his arms crossed near on of the columns, away from the Prince as Princess Belmont approached him in the crowd.

"Princess Lucille." Yureno started. "May I have the pleasure of the next dance?" He already took her hand and started to lead her to dance. Shou turned away as the Prince found his own company. He walked along the edges of the ballroom towards a balcony overlooking a garden. He pulled off the mask, something that would probably be a dumb idea back in the ballroom, but alone there wasn't a point to it. He began to wonder about where the only other person he talked to, even for a small bit. Lucy was a guest so surely she was here as well right? He fumbled with the mask in his hand, lifting it up over his face before dropping it again, repeating just to bide off boredom.

"Then I shall gladly show you where your logic fails with my past."

Finally stepping off the dance floor, Lucy sighed heavily but quietly at the fact that she was already wearing down, and the evening had just started. She certainly could be a people person if she so tried, but there were so many more times she'd rather not be. This seemed to be turning into one of them. Thankfully, she found herself in several situations where she could just let the suitors talk for themselves. The conversations seemed to continue smoothly since the men seemed to enjoy talking themselves up. Lucy didn't mind. The less she would have to talk, the better. And the more she knew about the men pinning for her hand, the better.

Just as she thought she was free for a moment, she was turned around to set her sights on another suitor. "Princess Lucille," the man started, bowing, "May I have the pleasure of the next dance?" She automatically curtsied in return, trying to sustain her pinned up elegance as long as humanly possible. "Of course," she responded lightly, taking the man's hand and following him onto the dance floor.

"And who may my dance partner be this time around?" she asked, inquiring his name. She did a quick look over as they took their place to start the next dance. Not bad, she initially thought, Much better than some of the others. They started their first turn as her eyes darted around for a split second, still searching for the one she still hoped to find that evening.

"Prince Keril Yureno of Sydion." The Prince answered as they maneuvered into place on the floor. "It may not be well known, but it is a glorious land." They turned and he kept pace to their dance. One of the lucky breaks of his upbringing was that he learned how to react in these situations. Even if he didn't want to, Shou kept him at his lessons and made sure he passed at the very least as a member of royal upbringing. "I know I'm one of over a dozen others for you to socialize with so I will take no more time than you wish." Even if he didn't know it, his personality was greatly similar to his friend's despite their opposite childhoods. His only thoughts however focused on taking the Princess, nothing less.

Lucy began dancing as she looked back at the man in front of her. "Prince Yureno," she said more to herself so she would remember it later. She nodded after he finished speaking, but shook her head gently. "No need to worry, sir. I know I mustn't shoo anyone off that quickly," she joked, the corners of her mouth turning upwards. Her eyes scanned him more closely this time. He really wasn't that bad looking. Fairly handsome, and she noticed his graceful demeanor. He was polite and quaint, and she appreciated his attitude towards her situation.

"So, please, tell me a little about yourself," she asked, an eye brow cocking up lightly as they turned back towards the center of the floor, her feet keeping the time of the music.

"I like long walks on the beach, spicy foods and being with you has been pleasant for our short time. Beautiful, well mannered and even a dash of curiosity, you're a joy." He kept his head turned right along with the direction of the dance, concerned only with impressing the Princess. He figured that out of courtesy he'd introduce Shou, if the Princess enjoyed his company enough to stay. It didn't seem like she would as the song ended, and suitors approached once again. "Perhaps another time we can talk more Princess. I'll be waiting." He gave her hand a kiss before stepping back as others asked for their chance.

As the prince spoke and their dance came to an abrupt end, Lucy stepped back after Prince Yureno kissed her hand, and she watched him walk away as others clouded her vision. She couldn't help but let a small scowl creep onto her face as she tried to make sense of several people talking to her at once, a few of them suitors, a few of them camera people, their mics to their mouths. She found this to be a common occurrence throughout the span of the evening party. After most dances, the same thing happened, and each time she grew a little more agitated.

After so long, she huffed out loud as another camera came up to her, and she simply ignored it, deciding it was best for her to step out for a minute to breath and collect her thoughts.
Along the largest wall of the ballroom were multiple sets of french doors that lead out onto multiple balconies, all identical, some with chairs to relax in, others with a table or two to mingle at. Choosing one at random, Lucy almost rushed to it, eager to get out of sight of the men and cameras.
Finding an empty one, she released the breath she was surprised to find she was holding in. She stepped out into the evening air, the colors of the falling sun sinking behind the horizon slowly. She shut one of the two french doors, letting the other one stay cracked behind her. Turning to the sky, she rubbed the back of her neck and looked around, seeing that others had found the other balconies welcoming.
After a moment, she spotted a familiar face. The corners of her mouth turned up slightly when she spotted Shou, a few balconies down, playing with his mask. She hesitated, not sure if she should get his attention, and she decided against it if she was to keep up her guise. Instead, she looked away and leaned against the balcony, hoping to stay hidden until someone forced her to come back inside.

"If you believed strength alone decides a person's fate..."

Even after debating with himself, Shou still had no real idea of what to do. He stopped fiddling with the mask, placing it down on the railing and resting his head on his hands. "Wonder where she is..." he muttered to himself. Aside from Yureno and the guards, Lucy was the only one he had talked to so far. He turned his head, looking at the mask head on as it sat there. Lucy would be attending right? If she was a guest she'd be here with the rest. Now the choices were continue to mope, or search for the only other person he's talked to on this trip. He tapped his finger on the railing, taking the occasional glance at the mask beside him. "Fine." he decided. "I'll take a look around."

He put the mask back on, ensuring it was sturdy before he pushed off of the railing. He walked back into the ballroom, a new song going on. With everyone having a mask on, the only chance he had to find her was her hair and size, although there was still a large amount of blondes in the room. For a better chance to find her, he thought that looking from the balcony would help. So he started making his way up the stairs, following the railing and watching the grand floor, trying to find Lucy among the guests. He continued to follow the railing after reaching the next floor, still watching the ballroom guests.

"Then I shall gladly show you where your logic fails with my past."

After a few minutes of easy breathing, Lucy turned back to the doors from the balcony. She gazed at them for a few moments before sighing lightly, wishing she could relax outside for a bit longer. No sooner than she thought about it, a small squeak came from the door being pushed open slowly. A female servant stepped out slightly, her bangs covering one eye as she shyly spoke. "Your highness," she started, curtsying, "You are requested back inside."
Lucy's mouth turned down a little, but she didn't argue, simply walked forward. The servant opened the door for her, bowing her head as Lucy passed her, and shutting it behind her as well.

She took a few timid strides forward into the ballroom, feeling eyes on her again. She tried shaking off the feeling, but it remained the same. The servant walked back up to her, gesturing for her to follow. She obeyed, ending up beside her father again. Although, he seemed busy, still chatting with guests. So she waited, her eyes wandering. Oh, how she wished she could just slip away to her bedroom, where her notebook was waiting.
As her eyes wandered, her mind did, too... Where is Shou? she thought again. She hadn't spotted him all night, and she finally took the task of scanning the crowd intently. After a minute of it, she decided he wasn't on the main floor. So she looked elsewhere. She figured he'd be wearing something different than before, but of course she couldn't be sure. Maybe she should look for his sword...

Soon enough, she found herself staring at a gentleman who stood at the top of the staircase where she had descended from a while before. If she remembered correctly, he looked to be wearing similar attire to what Shou had been wearing previously that day, and she turned to her body in his direction, her eyes squinting to make sure she wasn't mistaken. She didn't spy a sword because of the railing he was standing behind, but she couldn't definitely see that same silvery blue hair that made him stand out to her before.
So here was a man who looked to be the right person, but how would she know for sure? She could approach him, but she also smirked at the thought of keeping up her guise. If he guessed her true identity, what fun would that be? She folded her hands onto her stomach as she thought, her dark eyes full of wonder.

Akira kept looking over the crowd but with the large variety of masks, dresses and hairstyles, he couldn't figure out where Lucy was. The most he knew was that she was something of a guest, so she should be here, almost all the guests in the palace were here by now. So where was she? He spotted Princess Lucille staring up in his direction, so he looked away immediately and walked a bit away from the ledge. He was just a knight, he didn't want to be concerned about introducing himself when it would amount to nothing. Although there was something odd when he saw her looking his way. Almost like he should introduce himself, but maybe that was just the usual reaction when seeing royalty.
