The tears were gone and her face shining. She was making a strange rumbling noise deep in her chest, and it was a moment before her mother realized the girl was purring. Mir's eyes widened, and she flashed an astonished look up at her husband, a smile inching across her face more broadly than before. "Fish is tasty!" Ila piped up happily. "Haven' haddit inna while. Izzit trout?"

Sever nodded with a soft smile, placing one hand on one of each his children's shoulders. "Well, I got Trout and Walleye, but I got a lot more Trout 'cuz I know you two scamps love it." Levi smiled and hugged his father tightly. "Thanks papa! You 'n mama are the best!" he exclaimed. Sever looked up at his wife, giving her a warm smile as he nodded. "....We know."

She laughed, whole-heartedly - she'd been getting better at that over the months since his return. She'd had a hard time coming out of her self and grief-inflicted shell, but she was almost back to normal. At her best when she was with her family.

Ila flung herself at her father's knees, clinging to them with both small feet on his left shoe. "T'ank you, Daddy!" she sang, nuzzling her cheek into his knees. Something in her voice indicated that it wasn't just for the fish, but she didn't touch on that, looking up at him and asking, "Can we ride to the livin' room? Pweeeeeeze?" What she meant was the practice she and Levi had taken up as tiny tots - standing on her father's shoes and holding onto his leg while he carefully walked them where they wanted to go. They'd always shrieked and giggled and had a wonderful time at it. Sometimes she'd even ask for him to teach her to dance like that.

Mir pushed herself to her feet and ruffled her children's hair with a smile and said, "You two go play while I fix supper, then. Just stay inside, please. It's getting dark outside. Maybe later we'll all go to the meadow and go stargazing, hm?"

It made him smile brightly to see her smile like that. He knew how hard it must've been for her when he left the realm of the living, and even more so when he returned. But this family, this was his final and ultimate commitment to her, never to leave her like that again. Which was, maybe, why it was so much fun.

Levi got onto his father's other foot and looked up at him, smiling happily as he nodded furiously. "'Kay, mama! We'll be good kits! So kin we have a ride papa?" he asked pleadingly, holding on tight to his father's leg - he was always amazed when he did this at how tall his father really was, and hoped to grow up to be as big as him one day.

Sever laughed and ruffled their hair as he began to walk in a Frankenstein-ish fashion, bringing each of them up one at a time into the air, both of them laughing hysterically as he did so.

Mir just shook hear head, smiling to herself. She slipped past them and went through to the kitchen, humming quietly. For the next hour or so she would be busy preparing the large two fish that would be required to feed her voracious family. Soon happy singing could be heard from the kitchen, along with the snick of a knife slicing through flesh.

In the living room, the kits were having far too much fun climbing on and harassing their father. They loved to climb up his back and wit on his shoulders, fluffing his hair, laughing when he caught them up and swung them around and down to the floor so they could start the process all over again. However they also knew that he had work to do, so when he said to stop, if he chose to, they would, and turned to other things.

And it was for maybe a half-hour that he played with his children, a smile on his face and constant laughter from all of them bringing warmth and joy to a household that many months before had been stricken with a very heavy grief, one they knew nothing of yet were the product of. Sever cherished his children - for it took his own death and rebirth to make both him and Mir realize the importance of a family.

The kits turned to play among the many infirmary beds, climbing over and under and around them in another quadrant of the large shop that they made home. Sever made his way into the kitchen, moving up behind Mir and wrapping his arms around her waist, resting against her as he was tired from the day's work and drama.

Mir stopped her preparation of the fish and leaned back into him, setting the knife down on the cutting board. She snagged a dishtowel and wiped her hands before wrapping her arms about his, leaning her head back against his shoulder. A little kiss found its way to his ear, the smile evident in her voice as she murmured softly, "Hey there, love. You doing all right?" Her tail slunk sinuously about his lower leg. A raucous peal of laughter came to them from the infirmary, and she supressed a chuckle.

He tilted his head lightly against hers as she kissed him beside the ear, his lips finding her chin and placing a gentle kiss there. He rubbed her stomach and sides in gentle circles, a soft purr rumbling in his chest as his tail wrapped around both their legs, holding them and her tail together with his. "Of course love... I've got you, my family, a life led without fear of my past actions haunting me... I live in paradise. How could I not be alright?" His smile was audible in his voice, his statements sincere and free of his usual sarcasm. The laughter from the infirmary widened the smile on his face, knowing his two scamps were having fun with one another.

A pleasant shiver thrilled through her and she nuzzled the side of his head. "I just have to check sometimes. It can be hard to tell what's going on inside your head." Despite the light tone and the almost joking mental caress, she was fairly serious in her quip. Her hands stroked along his arms gently, almost as though she were soothing him, checking to make sure he truly was there.

He nuzzled his head into hers and pulled his head back so his lips were just over her ear, not wanting either of their kits to hear what he was about to say. "...Hun, you know my past. The horrendous things I've done, the things I've had to do, what I once did with my life... how I lost my life trying to turn around the way the world looked at me by standing up for what was right. But you have always... seen me for the man I am, never the beast.. for that, I love you so very, very much," he whispered softly, kissing her cheek just beyond her ear as he squeezed her leg with his tail.

She turned in his arms to hug him, resting her cheek on his collarbone with a soft sigh. "And I love you. More than life." She stayed there a few moments, eyes closed, relishing this quiet moment of closeness. Then she squeezed him and released her grip, turning back to her cutting board. Picking up her knife she said in a far brisker tone, "If I don't get this prepared soon, I'm going to have kits crawling all over me. You know how they are when supper's late and they're hungry." She smiled over her shoulder at him, a glitter back in her eyes.

He laughed and nodded, rubbing her shoulders for a bit as he kissed the top of her head, letting her return to her work as he moved over to the stove, opening it up and bringing the flames beneath it to life to heat it up. He'd always stressed living with as little conveniences as possible for some reason... it just seemed more homely. "Well, let's see if I can't help speed things along then," He said with a smile.

"Thank you, love, but if you keep rubbing my shoulders, you'll have to mop me up off the floor!" she laughed. "Would you mind making some sort of un-objectionable vegetable or fruit dish? And fetch me the garlic, parsley and sage, would you please?"

He nodded and pulled the aforementioned spices from the cupboard nearest the stove, setting them up on the counter and letting his hand trail along her arm briefly before he stood and thought for a moment, twitching his nose. "Don't we still have that big bowl of fruit salad in the cooler that I made last night? I'm sure that's cold enough by now to be perfect."

She pondered for a moment. "I think so. Should be in the icebox. Dig it out and fetch some bowls and utensils, would you please?"
