It's not "reality" after school, it's just different. Reality can be harsh no matter how old you are. Personally, I cannot remember a time in my life at any age where I wasn't severely depressed.

I have friends and acquaintances that have had extreme difficulty finding jobs after college, and it's not like I went to a bad school. My college was ranked eleventh in the South, under Tulane, Loyola, Vanderbilt and the like. I've seen graduates of my school delivering pizzas so they can pay rent. A college degree now is what I high school diploma was twenty years ago. It's pretty much necessary if you don't want to work minimum wage, but it doesn't guarantee it.

The saying, "Cs get degrees" is frightfully destructive. Yes, Cs do get degrees, however, they do not get people offering you jobs post graduation. I have friends that were offered above entry-level jobs before they had even graduated because they were such good students. I have friends that work in restaurants serving that still have degrees, but didn't work as hard.

This is not to say that you shouldn't party. No. Certainly, party as much as you want, just do it after your work is finished.

Life after graduation is much more difficult. You'll find it's not longer accpetable to be drunk by or before midday. You cannot skip work, like class. If you don't do you work, you're out of a job. If you don't do your homework, your grade may suffer. If you ******** up, it's not longer seen as a youthful indiscretion, it's failure.

"And me and my friends are just growing into the drunks and the liars that we've always hated. Every short-coming has trapped us. Every mistake is now our own infinite failure. So we steal every chance we get. Every advantage is taken, when no one's looking. We've hid behind closed doors and we won't stop until we're the people we've decided we should be. "

She lay down on the grass,
Looking up at the sky,
thinking, it’s all she can do.
If she disappeared she would not be missed.
She will be gone just like everyone else.

Getting up from the grass,
she walks on the sand,
looking outward towards the sea.
She walks into the water high up above her knees.

I'm sure this point has been mentioned before, and if it hasn't then that is fine too, but are you saying that unless one works, life is not real?

There are many people who attend school, who have part time jobs, and even full time jobs, but this does not mean that there is no reality. Your topic is very vague. If you're aiming to discuss jobs and professional jobs, then don't call them reality, because reality is there since birth.

I never had a full time or part time job. But I know what money is, and I know not to waste it, even though people tell me I don't know the meaning. Do I not know the meaning of my parents working hard to earn money to pay for my education? I do. Sure, I like shopping, and I like buying things, but I don't just waste it or spend it all. I know how hard my father worked for his money, and my grandparents, and everyone else who worked for the money I am living from. I have babysitted in the past, and earned my own money, so I know what I am saying.

After college/university then grad school, or even high school one is able to get a job and work for a living, but that doesn't mean that before that time, when your parents paid for everything or mostly everything for you, that doesn't mean that it wasn't reality.

My parents think I need them, and in a way I do. I can't pay for my college education, and I'm not taking that for granted. Yes, I am living on their money, but I am responsible and mature enough to make my own decisions. I want to go to college and grad school, and I would try to make it through the two myself, but I know that it would take a whole lot of work for me to do that. I think realistically. And realistically, I don't know if I would be able to put myself through college without either a scholarship or taking a year or two off to get a full time job. I could take out a lot of student loans, but I don't know if I'd want to be in debt. I thank my parents for paying for my college and grad school, and I'll pay them back in full when I graduate and get a professional job.

So, I guess i just want to know what you mean by reality, because if you didn't know it yet, you are a real person, and you really DO exist. If you meant by "reality", living tough, being independent, yeah it sometime comes after school, sometimes way before, and sometimes it's always been there. It's different for each person.

The waves softly hit her legs.
She looks at the sunset and its yellow-red hues
she walks into the sea, farther and farther,
opening her arms towards the wave.
The water is high up to her hips.
The wave comes towards her.
She looks at the wave with her arms stretched out;
the water starts to rage, the wave hits her body hard.
Then the water calms down. The water recedes,
then darkness falls, and all goes dark.
The sun goes down and the day is done.

I'm also still in school but i think that reality is in every bit of ur life starting around 5. At age 5 every kid gets in the habit of getting into trouble. So the first time the kid wants something and they don't get it or when the kid does something bad and gets a woop on the butt. That right there is a bit of reality. The kid then realizes, "oh my gosh, i just got in trouble for doing something, i can't do watever i want now." Right then the kid has to then think through situations in order to keep them out of trouble. However, other than getting a bit of reality every day, reality starts when you either lose something that you loved, or you all of a sudden have responsibility thrust upon you. An example is a teenager around 19 desides to move out from his parents. He goes and rents an appartment and then when he has to get a job and pay his own bills, thats when he gets a big bite of reality. Another example, which happened to u is that ur father dies. If your a teenage boy 13+ your mom will need support. She will need your help working to pay the bills. SO at a young age that child would have responsibilty thrust upon them because the person that carried that responibility was lost . And since your mother is in her condition because of losing her husband it is automatically passed straight down to u. That's what i believe.

School, or graduate, this IS the real world. School leads you to many ways to achive greater goals. Doing something out there is the real world, not just graduating and getting a job. Nothing is expected, so we can't tell what's next. That's what makes the real world.

Kids say they hate school...they don't wanna go to school, etc. They don't know how good they have it. I would do anything to go back and ba 16 again. There weren't any mortgage payments, bills (except car payment and gas), etc. It's like that John Mellencamp song says:
"Hold on to sixteen as long as you can. Changes come around real soon, make us women and me.

Well its good that your in college, looks a lot better than just having a High School gratuation on your job resume. You'll do fine, just flow with it and It'll all work out.

I'm (going into) grade 8 (I'm 12), and I do not want to stop living away from reality.
Life is much simpler right now for me, despite all the family fights and school drama, but I know that when the day comes I have to take the next step forward.
My favourite aunt died a while ago and it made me realize how easy it is to pass away. A disease you can't cure, a gunshot. (I don't intend to die without a fight, of course.) One false move and your life is over.
I've recently figured out how much I've been taking school for granted. How much easier a rumor about you is being spread throughout the school halls is easier than figuring out what to do with your life.
-sigh- well, I'll start enjoying my childhood now. :3

I'm still in highschool, so I still have time, but I still constantly worry I won't be prepared. I'm scared of the thought of going out to the real world and having to take care of myself.

I called her on the phone and she touched herself...

When I was 17 my mom moved to the states and got re-married and I stayed in Canada and lived on my own for about 6-7 months before finally breaking down and moving in with my father. So while I was still in high school I had bills to pay (mom helped out a bit but still), an apartment to take care of, had to go to work and do homework. So I got a big of a taste of the real world then. Now I'm out of high school and taking a year off before applying to any colleges (still dunno what I want to do in life) so I'm part of the real world now as well. Within the next few months I'm getting my licence and a car and will have to start making car payments and insurance payments and have gas money, etc. It's a bit scary but I can honestly say I prefer it over being in school.

...I laughed myself to sleep.

this is a very important topic. some kids say that they hate school and dont want to go. others say that the stuff they learn in school is useless. that not true at al. but school does teache you a lesson. it teaches you to be reponsible for yoursself. well maybe nit in elementary school. but once you are in middle school the lesson starts. when you are in middle and high school. you are responsible to turn in your homework. there is no one reminding you to do it. and you have to remember to bring your own things. thats how it is when your on your own. people dont remember everything for you so you have to do most of it yourself
